Core Ideologies

After spending the last 20 years establ ishing

and growing the Nebraska regional office for

a nationally ranked general contracting firm,

John Taylor has started his own construction

management firm. Mr. Taylor has been asked

a lo t of questions about this endeavor and we

will attempt to answer them for you in this

question and answer format.

Q: With all of your previous success

building a construction business why are

you starting a new venture?

A: I left a great company with a lo t of

great people. For me it really was a case

of the company being "too successful". We

grew from a 3 to 4 person operation to over

200 people when I left. With the company's

growth, my role in the company shifted and I

had a very limited role in servicing customers.

My passion is working closely with customers

and helping them make good decisions for

every construction dollar spent.

Why the Name?

Q: How will

your new firm

allow you to get

back to your

passion?

A: I intend to

work with the

best people I

can attract and

stay personallyinvolved with

our customers.

I am thrilled

to have Rob

Zimmerman and Matt Herzog joining me

as they share my passion for the customer.

Rather than managing people, I am managing

we will be helping our customers achieve

thei r goals, which in turn will allow us to

These are exciting times for our industry.

For projects to be viable in this market,

our customers need results that maximize

value. These results can be obtained by

combining proven building practices with new

technology and processes to optimize cost,

quality, productivity and sustainability.

Tools and processes alone will not guarantee

project success. The foundation for achieving

a highly successful project is trust-based

teams and early collaboration.

We provide not only the tools and processes

to optimize value, but the people, agility and

creativity to adapt our services to the specific

needs of each customer's project.

- by Rob Zimmerman

I look forward to using my collaboration skills

in my new role as a project advocate. I have

worked on large complex projects across the

world and most recently on Omaha's Midtown

Crossing development.

Our ability to work successfully with owners,

designers and field staff has allowed projects

to be successful. And our understanding of

constructability issues allows us to serve as

respected leaders.

We are able to predict and manage project

issues in a cost-effective manner by using

lean planning tools. Our belief in the saying,

"bad news doesn't get better with time,"

ensures that issues are dealt with timely

and effectively.

We want to provide a complete menu of

Q. Given the economy and current

challenges in the industry why risk starting

A Especially during tough economic

times is it important that every construction

dollar is spent wisely. Our firm is set up to

maximize every customer investment

Q: What size projects can your firm

handle?

A. Our staff has experience managing

projects ranging from $200K to $200M. We

can provide preconstruction and other CM

Collaborative teams have :

• Trust

• Transparency

Congruent objectives

• Creativity in solving problems

These attributes do not occur naturally

without planning. For example, what is the

incentive for an engineer compensated

based on Ofo of construction cost to spend

systems that drive cost from the project?

Or fo r the tradesman compensated with an

hourly wage to suggest ideas that reduce

man-hours for themselves and co-workers?

To eliminate waste and take advantage

of new trends in the industry, a Project

Advocate wil l seek the best solution for the

project and not fo r any single stakeholder.

Whether it is prefabrication, value

engineering, or building information

modeling that is required to add value, it

is imperative to the process to access the

collective knowledge of all stakeholders.

Project Advocates is committed to being the

catalyst that ensures collaboration on all of
