ItemsItems

An item is the fundamental object used to manage information in Teamcenter Engineering. Items are generally used to model revision-controlled product data. Each item has a label containing two specific pieces of information:

Item ID - a unique identifier for the item. No two items can have the same item ID.Item Name - a short description, usually using logical names like BOLT, BRACKET or FRT RR DR PNL OTR. These names are company specific and should match the name in MPNR.

Variant RulesVariant Rules

A Variant Rule is a collection of vehicle Variant Conditions/ Variant Expressions which are applied / used to configure buildable combinations.

Variant Conditions are created when a concatenation of one or more Variant Options and their Values / MFAL codes determined by Marketing, are applied to an object to identify the specific vehicle configuration it will solve.

Users can set, create and or modify Variant Rules or use predefined Saved Variant Rules referred to as Control Models. This will assist the user in working more efficiently by filtering to specific configurations when designing in the context of a program structure.

Revision rules are combinations of filters used to configure an assembly.Revision rules are applied to any structure or assembly sent to PSEIt is important to understand that a revision rule WILL configure the structure and assemblies according to the current rule.Before choosing a rule you should be asking yourself the question;

What do I want to see?

Default Revision RuleDefault Revision Rule

When an assembly or Structure is sent From My Teamcenter to PSE, loaded to Catia V5, I-DEAS, or to Teamcenter Visualization the Default Rule is used to Display and configure the assembly.

Unexpected results can occur when loading an assembly to the CAD system or TcVis from My Teamcenter if the Default Rule is unknown or understood.

It is recommended that assemblies are loaded to the CAD system or Teamcenter visualization via PSE so the affects of the revision rule may be seen prior to loading.

The Default Revision Rule can be set by the user, by picking [Edit]>[Options]>[PSE]

Revision Rule SummaryRevision Rule Summary

• The choice of which rule to use depends on what revisions you wish to see.

• The Default revision rule can be set by the user. [Edit]>[Options]>[PSE] and is used when loading assemblies to Catia V5 and I-DEAS from ‘My Teamcenter’

• It is important to understand that a revision rule WILL configure structures and assemblies according to the current rule regardless of whether they are Published, Frozen, Working, Precise, or Imprecise.

• It is recommended to load assemblies from PSE to view the configuration prior to loading to the CAD system or TcVis (VisMockup).

• It is very important to understand the Revision rule concepts to make sure you are displaying and loading the correct data.

• The PSE application displays Precise as Green.

• Place Holders are always Imprecise and when attached to the EBOM must have the status TMPL to enable them to appear in the Digital Buck.

• Design Solutions, Design Instances, and Design Representation assembly structures attached to the EBOM must be Precise, and the Design Solution must be Published for it to appear in the Buck

The CN ObjectThe CN Object

A Change Notice is roughly equivalent to a design release package for CAD data. A Change Notice is a Teamcenter object that groups a set of components related to change. The ID of the Change Notice is the WERS Notice Number. The Change Notice must include items to be released according to a WERS notice. The Change Notice is submitted to a workflow for review and approval in a more formalized change process.

For the current phase the CN object will be created manually by the Designer, in the future it is anticipated

that it will be generated automatically

What is aWhat is a Workflow ProcessWorkflow Process

Workflow stems from the concept that all work goes through one or more processes to accomplish an objective.

When using a workflow, documents, information, and tasks are passed between participants during the completion of a particular process.

In Teamcenter a Workflow is used to apply a status to a structure or component in a controlled manner, e.g. with approval.

Depending upon the object selected the following workflows may be available.

• 010_Submit_For_Frozen

• 020_Submit_For_Published

• 030_Submit_For_Release_P

For the CN object and the components within the folders to receive a release status, the CN must be submitted to the “030_Submit_For_Released-P”workflow.

The 030_Submit_For_Released-P workflow requires an approver, this can be singe or multiple people.

• An email is sent to the submitter and the approver/s stating that the workflow has been approved. The mail will also display any text entered into the comments field.

• The CN revision will receive the status of ReleasePending

• The components to be released, i.e. the contents of the Solutions and Affected folders will not be given a status at this stage, but will display the in process symbol.

• Once the corresponding WERS notice receives "R" and the CNSync script is run, the ReleasePending status of the CN changes to CO Released-P

• The components to be released will receive the status Released_P

• Note that CNSync affects only the latest revision of the CN that has the status Release Pending, previous revisions are not affected.

• The item revisions in the Affected and Solution folders also receive Published status if they do not already have it.

If the task is Rejected;

• If the workflow is rejected by a member of the signoff team, then the Rejection stops the workflow process and changes the Decision link to red and reads Reject.

• The CN revision is given a Status of Rejected and displays a Chequered Flag symbol below the revision.

• An email is sent to the submitter and the approver/s stating that the workflow has been rejected. The mail will also display any text entered into the comments field.

• Once the reason for rejection has been rectified, then a new revision of the CN is necessary to re-submit the CN object to the workflow.
