OUR MISSIONThe world today needs people who are honest, virtuous,

selfless and compassionate and can show restraint

despite extreme provocation; also who can show path of love

and can have the capacity to give without yearning for returns.

To fulfill this acute need of developing human beings with such

sterling qualities and lofty ideals our founding Father Sant Attar

Singh Ji declared our Mission Statement in 1906, almost eight

decades before the first Akal Academy was established. This reads,

“To establish permanent peace in the world through value based

scientific education and spiritual upliftment and provide solace and

succor to the downtrodden and the deprived.”

The basic tenets of spirituality teach us to share, to do 'sewa'

(selfless service) and meditation, and to dedicate our life to

'Parupkar' (philanthropy). It advocates dismantling of all barriers

and boundaries, embracing humanity and wanting 'Sarbat Da

Bhala' (Universal Brotherhood). These are the principles which

Guru Nanak Dev Ji enunciated five centuries ago and they are as

relevant in the strife ridden world of today as in the past - albeit even

more so.

THE BACKGROUND

S ant Attar Singh Ji, spent his initial years in deep

meditation and sewa. Developing and nurturing minds in

pursuit of Truth and through them bringing about lasting

peace in the world was his life's objective. To achieve this, he

strongly advocated growth of educational institutions which

had a spiritual base and promoted ancient Indian culture,

values, morals and humility. He first set up a school for girls in

1906 and thereafter a school for boys and then the Akal Degree

College at Mastuana in Punjab. Himself a Brahamgiani (an

enlightened soul), he presided over several annual sessions of

Spiritual Educational Conferences and gave divine guidance to

all. On request by Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya, a great social

reformer of his time, Sant Ji laid the foundation stone of the

first college at Banaras Hindu University at Varanasi in India.Sant Attar Singh Ji inspired Sant Teja Singh Ji MA, LLB, (Punjab)

AM (Harvard), Principal of Khalsa College, Amritsar to promote this

unique mission. He sent Sant Teja Singh Ji to the US to get

advanced training in the field of education from Columbia

University at New York and later master's degree in education from

the Harvard University at Boston in USA (1904-06). On his return

from the US, Sant Teja Singh Ji pioneered several High Schools and

Colleges and worked as Principal of many renowned educational

institutions. In deference to the wishes of Sant Attar Singh Ji, he

identified Baru Sahib, as 'Tapo Bhoomi' (secret & divine place) of

saints & sages, who meditated here in the past and laid the

foundation of the 'Guru Nanak International Institute of Spirituality

and Education' in 1956.Later,he also established Kalghidhar

Trust/Society to actually work upon and achieve the objectives laid

down in the Mission Statement

THE PRESENT

R esponding to the clarion call of Sant

Attar Singh Ji and Sant Teja Singh Ji,

who envisioned to rebuild the nation on

laudable values of self realization, discipline,

service to the mankind and social harmony,

Akal Academy, Baru Sahib was established

by Rev. Baba Iqbal Singh ji (Retd. Director

Agriculture, HP) and Padma Bhushan Dr.

Khem Singh ji (Ex. Vice Chancellor Punjab

Agriculture University, Ludhiana) in 1986. It

is a unique academic centre, having

comprehensive arrangements for imparting

wor ldly sc ient i f ic educat ion in an

environment conducive for spiritual

evolution. This Co- educational English

Medium Residential Senior Secondary School

is affiliated to the Central Board of

Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi.

Ensconced in beautiful sylvan surroundings,

amidst lush green meadows and fresh water

springs and located far from the maddening

crowd in a distant and remote corner of

Himachal Pradesh, Akal Academy, Baru

Sahib, is the divine prediction of one of the

greatest saints of this era, Sant Attar Singh Ji,

who had envisioned in the early twenties of the

last century that children endowed with

Page 5: P R O S P E C T U S - Akal Academyakalacademy.org/AA/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/prospectus.pdf · P R O S P E C T U S Contemporary education based on faith and tradition AKAL ACADEMY

disseminate from this place and

spread the message of universal

brotherhood. This would go a

long way in establ ishing

permanent peace in the world,

which today is full of malice,

jealously, frustration, anger and

greed.

Initially a mirage for many, it has

now emerged to be a source of

inspiration and guiding spirit for

many an educational institution.

It has caught imagination of the

masses, who wish their children

to become not only trained

professionals but good human

beings as well. The legacy of

'Guru' and 'Shishya' in the

Gurukul traditions, that has been

bequeathed upon us, is not only

being maintained and nurtured

but redefined as well, to suit the

changing times.

OBJECTIVES

T oday's youth stands on crossroads. Students have an easy access to the media which

exposes them to the materialistic glare. Children are thus getting divorced from the ancient culture, as also their glorious heritage. Required today are schools which can offer the children latest technological developments in a pure, stimulating and spiritual environment away from the destabilizing influence of the media.

We need Gurukuls which can strengthen the roots of our children, expose them to the spiritual realm, teach them to have respect for values and morals and develop in them the uncanny ability to discern right from wrong. Keeping the above in view, Akal Academy, Baru Sahib has been established to achieve the following objectives:-

To develop in the students a trained intellect to enable them to adjust themselves in the fast changing world.

To create among the students a strong sense of duty and discipline.

To inculcate in students a love for nature and respect for all forms of life.

To help students to become better human beings through process of self-realization and service to the mankind.

To cultivate in the students a mind which is aware and awake.

To instill in the students a global outlook and sense of belongingness to the whole humanity.

To have zeal to do the best in all domains of life.

To motivate the students to achieve excellence in whatever field they participate.

And above all, to equip them to tread the path of sewa and simran and through it to be one with Almighty.

STUDENTS CODE OF CONDUCT RULES AND REGULATIONS OF THE SCHOOL

Every student who is granted admission in the school pledges to observe willingly all the Rules and Regulations of the School and to uphold and respect the principles on which the institute is founded. It is also to be understood that on breaking this solemn pledge, the student forfeits his/her membership of the school. It is the duty of each student to perform all tasks assigned to him / her in connection with the functioning of the school to the best of his / her ability. Parents/Guardians are expected to reinforce this in the child's mind and guide their ward accordingly. Some of the salient points in this regard are given below:

1. All Sikh students are required to follow the Sikh spiritual and religious way of life (including partaking of AMRIT through the Sikh way of baptism) being taught in the school and practice the Tenets of Sikhism in letter and spirit. They have to keep their hair intact and are not allowed to cut them from any part of their body. Any deviation from the Sikh religious principles, especially of cutting of hair will lead to strict action that may lead to expulsion of the child from the School.

2. All Non- Sikh students, while remaining in their own religion, shall follow the spiritual cum moral studies and programmes being carried out in the Academy during their stay in the School. They shall strictly adhere to the School uniform (dress code) of the Academy mentioned in the School Prospectus.

3. No food parcels of any kind or money-will be accepted for or delivered to the children from anybody.

4 Students are not permitted to have any money. In case any child is found possessing money, he/she would be expelled from the school. Strict rules in this regard are in child's interest as possession of money may lure the child to procure and use undesirable substances.

5 Leave is not a matter of right and is not sanctioned except in case of medical emergency / bereavement of immediate close relatives.

6 Adequate security arrangements have been made to prevent students from leaving the school campus without permission. If, however, despite all these arrangements, a student absconds i.e. leaves the campus without permission, the school will not be held responsible.

7 No student is allowed to go on leave unescorted. If, however the parents of male students of Grades X, XI and XII, desire that their wards be sent home without an escort, the request in this regard is required to be forwarded in writing through e-mail/fax to the Principal. Telephonic messages in this regard will not be entertained.

8 Whenever parents / guardians come to the school to meet their wards, they must visit the School Office and take prior permission for the same. Parents are advised not to meet their children at any unauthorized place or time.

9 Please refrain from giving any valuables like ornaments, watches, cameras, audio/visual equipment etc. to the children. The school will not be responsible for any loss or damage of the same and child may be rusticated for possessing any such unapproved articles.

10 The school maintains a mild censorship of letters of the children as this is purely in their interest of students. Only parents/guardians and person authorized by them can correspond with their wards through letters/e-mails

Page 25: P R O S P E C T U S - Akal Academyakalacademy.org/AA/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/prospectus.pdf · P R O S P E C T U S Contemporary education based on faith and tradition AKAL ACADEMY

11. Parents are welcome to offer suggestions keeping the overall improvement of the School in mind. This may be done only through letters/e-mail/fax.

12 All correspondence by the parents regarding the welfare of the student/suggestions /complaints/fees etc. must be addressed to the Principal giving the name, grade and Admission Number of the student.

13. No verbal assurances alleged to have been given by any member of the staff would be binding on the School. Similarly, no verbal statements made by the parents will be accepted. Parents must write to the School on any point they wish to make.

14 The whole Baru Sahib Complex is a NO SMOKING / NO DRINKING ZONE. Parents / Guardians are requested to refrain from smoking and drinking liquor in the complex. Nor should they enter the Complex in an inebriated state after consuming liquor. Any violation of this rule would be dealt with very seriously and the individual concerned is liable to be evicted from the Baru Sahib Complex.

15. The School reserves the right to expel any child at any time, including during the final external examination period, for indulging in any act of misconduct / indiscipline. The decision of the Principal, Akal Academy, Baru Sahib will in all such cases be final.

16. The school reserves the right to strike off the name of any student from the Roll or stop him / her for appearing for any examination including external examination for non-payment of fees and other dues before the commencement of such examinations.

17. No refund of security deposit will be made if notice of withdrawal, in writing, is not given at the end of the academic session in December.

18. To maintain discipline and to inculcate the habit of punctuality, overstay of leave shall be liable to a fine. The rate to be levied will be determined by the School authorities from time to time.

19. It is endeavored to ensure proper care and safety of students at all times including games, stay in hostel, mess as well as when they leave the school campus on excursions or picnics. The school, however, will not be responsible for any damages / charges, whatsoever, for any injuries, fatal or otherwise, caused during the child's stay in the school, even if these take place within or outside the school campus, while out on camps / picnics / educational tours or while taking part in sports / games or any other form of activity of the school.

20. The Management of the School reserves the right to change, amend, add or delete any of the above mentioned Rules and Regulations, at any time without prior notice .However any such change would be intimated to the parents/guardians.

21. In order to inculcate sense of discipline, punctuality, high morals and righteousness, children will be motivated and counseled, and if required, admonished. For this purpose, other punitive measures including monetary fine may also be imposed on children from time to time.

22. The annual fees of the school and other expenses will have to be paid in advance. If for any reason, the child is withdrawn before the completion of the academic session, balance outstanding dues for the entire academic session shall have to be paid. The school fees and other expenses once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances.

23. Parents shall be allowed to meet their wards once in two months as per the permission schedule to be intimated to them at the time at the time of admission.

24. Visiting parents/ guardians may avail the limited accommodation available at the Gurdwara Baru Sahib. Every effort is made to provide some accommodation to all the parents/ guardians

Page 26: P R O S P E C T U S - Akal Academyakalacademy.org/AA/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/prospectus.pdf · P R O S P E C T U S Contemporary education based on faith and tradition AKAL ACADEMY

and this is offered on first come first served basis. Parents/ guardians are well advised to co-operate in this regard and not to create an awkward scene, if the existing accomodation facility is fully occupied and they are denied accommodation of their choice at Gurdwara Baru Sahib.

25. Legal dispute , if any would be subject to Jurisdiction of Courts in District Sirmour, Himachal Pradesh.

I HAVE GONE THROUGH THE ABOVE RULES AND REGULATIONS OF AKAL ACADEMY BARU SAHIB AND I AGREE TO ABIDE BY THE SAME.
