Background & Overview
Awarded with building and operating the new Istanbul
Ataturk Airport (“IST”) International Terminal in 1997,
TAV Airports started operations in January 2000
after two years of construction period. TAV operates
the state-of-the-art international terminal at IST
since then and also took over operations of domestic
terminal in 2005.
IST is a global hub with rapidly growing passenger
numbers showing a tremendous growth pattern since
TAV took over the operations in 2000. Over this course
of time, the passenger traffic has shown a tremendous
growth and increased to 63.7 million from 14.7 million,
proving IST’s slogan of
Prime Location, Global Gateway.

IST is linked to more than 280 destinations. 125 scheduled
airlines from various countries serve IST. 11 new destinations
are added to the route network of IST in 2017, mostly by
Turkish Airlines. Some major new routes include long haul
destinations such as Phuket, Samarkand, Seychelles and
Voronezh.
Thanks to the variety of operating airlines and the
destinations served, IST offers many convenient connection
opportunities, mostly on Turkish Airlines, which has one
of the widest networks among its competitors. With its
global network coverage and strong home base carrier, IST
operates as a major hub in its region.
The transfer passenger share of IST has surged to 42% from
15% in 2008. The perfect geographical location and the strong
network of the airport offer convenient flight times and time
efficient connection opportunities to African, Middle Eastern
and European destinations.
IST has also been strengthening its long haul network in
recent years. 20 new long haul destinations were added to
IST network in recent years including Seoul, Los Angeles,
Montreal, Houston, Toronto, Buenos Aires and Boston. The
growing wide-body fleet of Turkish Airlines will bring even
more long haul destinations to IST network shortly.

Istanbul Ataturk Airport is located on the European side of
the city, right on the highway and subway networks. The
airport stands nearby the most popular attraction points
of the European side. IST is only 25km away from the city
center and 15km away from Yenikapı Port, which provides
ferry trips to the Asian side of Istanbul as well as other
coastal cities located around Marmara Sea. Well established
ground transportation alternatives provide an easy access to
IST from the city of Istanbul and the neighboring cities. The
airport is also easily accessible through subway connections
which offer services to downtown.

Istanbul Ataturk Airport provides its passengers the
opportunity of an easy and comfortable accommodation in
the classy Airport Hotel. The Airport Hotel aims to promptly
serve the passengers in the most convenient way. The facility
is operated by BTA Catering, a subsidiary of TAV Airports
Holding.
The Airport Hotel has two parts: the airside and the landside,
offering 51 and 77 comfortable and well equipped rooms
respectively. The rooms on the airside are available not
only for daily bookings but also for hourly ones, providing
international transfer passengers with the opportunity to
refresh between flights with long connection times.
The airside part of the Airport Hotel is located within the
international terminal building, next to the duty free area.
The arriving international transfer passengers could move
straight to their hotel room, freshen up while waiting for their
connecting flight, and then directly go to the gate at boarding
time. Thanks to the hotel’s perfect location, passengers don’t
have to leave the terminal building or go through passport
control or customs clearance to stay in the hotel.
The Airport Hotel guests must have their boarding cards with
them to stay at the airside part of the hotel. Only passengers
arriving from an international destination and connecting to
an international destination are allowed to stay at the airside.
The landside of the Airport Hotel is adjacent to the
international terminal building. To stay at the landside,
arriving international passengers need to go through the
passport control, leave the terminal building and take the
Airport Hotel shuttle for a 2 minute ride to the facility.
All rooms are equipped with internet access, music system,
minibar and access to flight information screens for the
guests’ comfort and ease.
The Airport Hotel offers an executive meeting room equipped
with internet access, electronic blinds, ceiling projector,
LCD orientation screen, a high quality sound system and an
adjustable lighting system.
The Airport Hotel offers qualified alternatives for various

Hagia Sophia
Built in the 4th century, Hagia Sophia is one of the most
impressive land marks of Istanbul. After suffering several
fire incidents and destructions, the current structure was
built in the 6th century. It served as a Patriarchal cathedral
until 1453, when it was converted into a mosque by the
Ottomans. Until 1931, for almost 5 centuries, it remained
as the mosque of Istanbul. On 1935, Hagia Sophia was
converted into a museum.

Topkapı Palace
Topkapı Palace was the residence of the Ottoman Sultans
for almost 400 years. Today, the palace is converted into a
museum serving as a major tourist attraction. Weapons,
armor, shields, Islamic relics and the Ottoman treasury are
exhibited for visitors. Topkapı Palace is one of the major icons
of Istanbul, reflecting the historic aspect of the city. The view
from the palace’s terrace is one of the best in Istanbul.

Blue Mosque
The Sultan Ahmed Mosque was built in 1616 during the rule
of Ahmed the Ottoman Sultan. The mosque is known as
The Blue Mosque due to the over 20,000 blue tiles gracing
the interior. Blue Mosque also comprises the tomb of
Sultan Ahmed. Its unique 6 minaret structure is an Istanbul
Landmark and is among the masterpieces of Islamic

Grand Bazaar
The Grand Bazaar is one of the biggest covered markets in
the world. The construction started in 1455, only 2 years after
the conquest of Istanbul by the Ottomans, and took 6 years
to be completed. The bazaar has 64 streets, 22 gates and
over 3,400 shops. A wide range of products are on sale at the
bazaar including jewelry, pottery, spice, carpets, accessories
and clothing.

Dolmabahçe Palace
Dolmabahçe Palace, located on the European shore of the
Bosphorus, was built in 1856 with the directive of Sultan
Abdulmecid. The palace served as the primary administrative
center for the Ottoman Empire during its final years of rule.
Dolmabahçe Palace is now an open public museum. Ataturk,
the founder of the Republic of Turkey spent the last days of
his medical treatment in the palace. The room he died on
November 10th, 1938 is now a part of the museum.

Taksim Square
Taksim Square is an important destination for tourists as
well as native Istanbul population. Istiklal Street, a long
pedestrian street originating from Taksim square, is a major
attraction point with great number of historical buildings,
restaurants, shops, bars and pubs. Taksim square offers

TAV Group was established in 1997, as a joint venture between
the major founding shareholders Tepe and Akfen Groups
following their successful bid for the Istanbul Ataturk Airport
International Terminal Contract. Istanbul Ataturk Airport
was one of the pioneering airport privatization projects in
the international market executed under a “Build – Operate
– Transfer” (BOT) scheme. TAV has become an established
airport constructor and operator, not only in Turkey but also
in the international marketplace.
As one of the leading airport construction and operation

aviation sector by providing integrated airport services,
from construction of airports to operating and financing of

HAVAS (Ground Handling), TAV IT (Airport IT Solutions),

Turkish company to construct and operate an international

(ESB), Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport (ADB), Milas-Bodrum
Airport (BJV) and Alanya Gazipasa Airport (GZP) which
handled 15.8 million, 12.8 million, 3.5 million and 823
thousand passengers respectively in 2017. In the country
of Georgia, TAV Airports operate Tblisi (TBS) and Batumi
Airports (BUS) serving 3.6 million passengers in total. In
Tunisia, Monastir (MIR) and Enfidha-Hammamet Airports
(NBE) are operated by TAV, serving 1.6 million passengers
together. TAV’s Skopje (SKP) and Ohrid (OHD) Airports in
Macedonia handled 2 million passengers in 2017 while
Madinah Airport (MED) and Zagreb Airport (ZAG) served 7.8
and 3 million passengers respectively. In total, TAV Airports
served 114 million passengers and 835,000 flights by more
than 300 airline companies at its 17 airports in 2017.
TAV Airports currently operates 17 airports in 7 different
countries in 3 continents, including Riga Airport in Latvia
where only the commercial areas are operated by TAV.

2012• Aeroport de Paris (ADP) acquired 38% of TAV shares.• TAV took over the Domestic Terminal operations in Izmir
Airport.• TAV took over Madinah Airport operations.• TAV signed a letter of interest with ADP to acquire 15%
share in Zagreb Airport operations in Croatia.
2013• TAV acquired 15% share in Zagreb Airport operations.
2014• TAV took over the Domestic Terminal operations in Milas-

2015• TAV took over the International Terminal operations of

2016• As part of Istanbul Atatürk Airport expansion works, 27,000
