ONE FAMILY: IGNITING FAITH, NURTURING COMPASSION, PRODUCING DISCIPLES

October 7th in the Year of Our Lord 2018

Twenty-seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time

ARCHUNITE: On Saturday, June 8, 2019, a once in a life time event will take place for our Archdiocese. A unique gathering for Catholics from across the Archdiocese. We will gather at the CHI Health Center (formerly CenturyLink) for a great celebration of our Faith. Several parishioners went with me to an orientation meeting in Norfolk last week. We begin promoting this event and making arrangements for as many as wish to attend. It is so important that Archbishop Lucas as ordered that there be no weddings, funerals, or Saturday evening masses on that day so all the priests can attend. The event is paid for with solicited donations (not from us or any of your donations to such things as the Annual Appeal).

Ever heard of Jim Gaffigan? He is going to be there to entertain us. Ever heard of Salt and Light—a profession Broadway type performance? They’ll be there inspiring us to recommit our lives to Jesus. What will you have to pay to go? 1) Your time 2) the bus trip 3) your food. Family weekend packages are being arranged. Or just go on your own, stay with relatives and make a weekend of it.

As time goes on, we will be providing more information. ONE THING IS CLEAR: YOU HAVE TO REGISTER IN ORDER TO ATTEND—IT’S PART OF THE SECURITY AT THE CONVENTION CENTER. YOU CAN’T JUST SHOW UP. We will show you how to do that as time goes on. I am personally excited about this event and of traveling with you to the event. MOVING CEDAR FORWARD: A CAMPAIGN TO PAY OFF THE REMODELING DEBT, GET SOME GOOD BUSSES, HELP-ING WITH THE BUDGET—

· You can stop over at the Development Office located at the main entrance of the Werner Activity Center to fill out a pledge form.

· You can also stop at the parish office to make your pledge.

Please pray for the success of this campaign. It is very im-portant for the financial health of our school.

COMMUNION TO THE HOMEBOUND: Please call the rec-tory if you or someone you know is homebound and would like to receive communion.

PRAYER FOR OUR SCHOOL: A holy hour will be held in the Cedar Chapel, with exposition of the Blessed Sacrament for one hour each Thursday beginning around 9am. Anyone can come and join in this prayer… in the midst of our school… for our students, faculty and for the success of all our school endeavors this year. This will begin on Thursday, Sept. 13. Students may come and make a visit during the hour… so let the Holy Hour be one of silence.

ESTATE PLANNING SEMINAR: The next seminar will be held at Bow Valley in the Church basement: October 14 at 4:00 pm The best gift you can give your kids is to make sure your affairs are in order. And if you want to help the Church or our school when you are gone, this seminar will help you learn how to do that with the best tax breaks. We have worked hard to bring you some great advisors, people who have lots of experience in helping people plan their estates and/or make sound financial decisions. Please call Brandon Baller if you want to attend: 402-254-2455

NOTE TO THOSE WHO NEED COMMUNION TO BE BROUGHT TO THEM IN THE BACK: Sometimes the EMHC’s cannot see clearly if there is anyone needing communion in the back of church; can’t see someone if they are standing and others around are obscuring the view or the sun is beaming through the windows. So, I have devised a method of giving a signal: If you need communion brought to you put up the green circle on the wall next to the cry room. Otherwise, a red one will be on that spot telling the EMHC there is not need to go to the back. In know it’s cheesy but, hey, it might work. PLEASE MAKE SURE THE RED DOT IS PUT BACK AFTER COMMUNION.

MINISTRY OF PRAISE: Would you like some direction in your prayer life? The Ministry of Praise is recruit-ing prayer warriors to receive our newsletter with an inspirational message, catechesis and ideas for what needs prayer in our parish. Although anyone can join, this is an ideal ministry for people who can no longer serve funerals, mow the cemetery or partici-pate in other physically active ministries. Contact the parish office to join, there are no dues.

- Deacon Filips

October 2018

Harvest Is A Time To Acknowledge our Blessings.

Harvest reminds us of how God has blessed us

and for us to be generous as well.

Please remember the Cedar County Catholic Schools Gala

in a generous way as you bring home your harvest this year.

Farmers, retired farmers and friends please remember Gala 2019 with a grain auction gift. Gifts of corn, soybeans and cash gifts to be converted to corn for the Gala Auction will be greatly appreciated.

Your gifts of harvest to Gala 2019 assists Cedar County Catholic Schools’ budgets. The Gala has helped our Catholic Schools with approximately $4.13 million in the past twenty-three years. Gala 2018 raised a net total of $312,424.95 for our Catholic Schools. The Grain Auction is over 20% of Gala proceeds or an essential part of it. Each year our goal for a successful Grain Auction is 10,000 bushels of donated corn. Please help reach that goal.

Making a gift to the grain auction can be done by delivering grain to the Fordyce Coop, Hartington Elevator or Hartington Feed and Chick . Notify the elevator in person or by phone of the amount of grain you would like to give. Or call Merle Loecker at 402-254-3535 to arrange a time for him to stop for your grain donation. Cash donations for grain can be made by mailing a check to the Catholic Development Office at P.O. Box 654, Hartington, NE 68739.

Gala Grain Auction Committee members are:

Darrell Lammers & Mike Reifenrath - Grain Committee Co-Chairmen,

Chuck Sudbeck, Clinton Becker, Alton Heimes, Merle Loecker,

Brian Pinkelman, Gene Dickes, Roger Sudbeck, Stan Sudbeck,

Tim Kruse, John Steffen and Doug Pinkelman.

Let’s help our 24th Gala have the best yield yet! For more information contact

Catholic Development P.O. Box 654, Hartington, NE 68739.

It is being cleaned, repaired and readied for inspection. The bathroom project at HT school is

moving along – they are being given a facelift, scrubbed and painted. The concrete work will be

done before school starts in front of HT to prevent the pooling of water thus creating ice – we

will pay for the materials, the labor is free. Fr. OK said the new custodian at HT is working out

very well.

their registrations forms.

Old Business: The stain glass windows are coming along. Father anticaptes the next window to

be installed about the time school starts in August.

Travis Becker, Secretary. Each of the new members that serves on the parish council also serves

on one of the reporting committees. Next meeting these will be decided.

Pastoral Report: Father has given permission for the Cedar Foundation to use our lottery

number during the Fall Blitz. The new principal at Cedar has started his duties. The Make Cedar

Great Campaign had its kick off, and Father will be talking about it again at mass on July 14/15.

Discussions will be held with some members of the St. Michael’s parish and the HT parish will

be held on July 17th

. Members from the Evangelization team from Omaha will be in attendance

to help with this process. Father is hoping to put together a Souls and Suds adult education

program, and to start a small bible study – training people on how to lead a bible study.

The meeting adjourned to Father’s residence for a short social hour.

Next meeting is August 23rd

at 7:00 pm.
