3. Field Trips Two field trips are arranged for participants to understand how a sustainable oyster hatchery operates in Asia. Participants are recommended to arrange their own transport and accommodation. However, organizers would be very happy to provide guidance for making their trip valuable and comfortable. Field Trip 1: 13-‐15 June 2015 (Zhanjiang, China) Socio-‐economic aspects of oyster hatchery in China A trip to “Marine Economic Animal Research Station” and oyster hatchery in Zhanjiang will show us how oyster seeds are produced using traditional methods. The organizing committee will reserve a shuttle-‐bus for the whole touring trip in China (self-‐financed). We will gathering outside the entrance to Shenzhen Bay Port Passenger Terminal, Hong Kong side and get on the shuttle to travel to Zhanjiang. Meanwhile, the organizing committee will help reserving a hotel room in Zhongtailai Hotel and Yangjiang Jinghu hotel (which is a double room for 2 persons) for you from 13 and 14 June 2015 (2 nights). (Please pay to the hotel reception when you check-‐in.) (About CNY 250 per night per room). Schedule Field Visit 1 (ZhanJiang, China)

Field Trip 2: 24 June 2015 (Penang, Malaysia) Building and operating a mini-‐hatchery: an example from Malaysia We will go to Penang to see how oyster seeds are produced in a “hi-‐tech and modern” oyster hatchery at a big scale. This guided trip will also provide us opportunity to discuss pros and cons of oyster hatchery business. We will gather in the lobby of the hotel (Vistana Penang Bukit Jambul) at 8:45 am on 24 June 2015 (Wed) for the whole day hatchery visit. Please reserve a hotel by yourself. Meanwhile, the organizing committee will reserve a shuttle-‐bus for the whole touring trip in Malaysia (self-‐financed). Please reserve a flight ticket by yourself. Field Visit 2 (Peneng, Malaysia)
