Destinations Expo Windsor Race Course Wednesday 18th January
On Wednesday last week, 15 year 11 students attended the destination Expo with Mrs McKay, careers
adviser, and Miss Glover. Over 60 businesses offered hands-on experiences and interactive challenges to
inspire our future workforce. It gave them the opportunity to learn about options for work and training
and the breadth of careers available in an engaging and inspiring way.
Jessica Arnold writes:
'At a time where there are so many difficult choices to make, such as where we will be spending the next
two years of our lives, support and advice is always welcomed. We recently had the opportunity to
attend Destinations Expo at Windsor Race course and meet with representatives from over 60
businesses; there were companies offering many different career paths and guiding us through the steps
we need to take to get there. Every representative was extremely helpful and took into account
everything we told them about our strengths and subject preferences. I also learnt a great deal about the
experience gained from apprenticeships and the future opportunities they can create. I went on the trip
with only a vague idea of what to do post A levels, but I now feel as though I have a raised awareness of
the options available to me.'
Feedback back from other students who attended was fantastic…
“I am more aware of the opportunities companies are willing to give to you”
“I was unaware of how many companies offer apprenticeships”
“It showed me opportunities available after I finish school
Careers Insight Morning-Thursday 19th January
As part of the Options Day all year 8 students attended an assembly aimed to bring a subject and career
pathway to life. Speakers from Thames Valley Police Force, pharmaceutical industry, engineering (GSK
apprenticeships), professional photography and counselling came in to talk with the year group. The talks
were informative and gave students the chance to ask any questions they may have had. Thank you to
those speakers who gave up their time to work with us.
Following on from the assembly there were four workshops including presentations on universities,
apprenticeships, transferable skills, and the options process? The aim of the morning’s sessions was to
inform all students of their choices after GCSE and beyond in as much detail as possible. In the afternoon
students were involved in subject taster lessons which they thoroughly enjoyed.
