THE CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN OF URIAH AND SARAH (EVERETT) OWEN (Continued from Volume 4,.No. 2)

In the 1830 census we find entries for two James McLaughlins. One is in Hill County with a male born between 1780 and 1790 and a female'of similar age. The other James McLaughlin is found in Oglethorpe County - a male born between 1780 and 1790, two males born between 1820 and 1825, a female born between 1790 and 1800, and a female born between 1825 and 1830. The James McLaughlin living in Oglethorpe in 1830 is likely the husband of Frances Owen. Could they have been the parents of Owen A. McLaughlin, who on 25 December 1851 married Almarine Catharine Cheney, the daughter of William Owen Cheney and Elizabeth Callaway and the granddaughter of John Chenry, Senior and his wife, Catharine Evans "Kate" Owen, sister of Uriah Owen? See Barbara Cheney Roberts' A Cheney Family of the South (1983), page'191. We know there were a number of marriages between cousins ~n the Owen family. Owen A. McLaughlin served as postmaster in Greene County. 11

In his will, Uriah Owen mentioned his grandson, Coleman Owen, the son of (5) Brice Owen.

Bricy M. Owen is found in the 1820 Clark County, Georgia census with a male born between 1775 and 1.794, two males born between 1810 and 1820, a female born between 1775 and 1794 and two females born between 1810 and 1820. The 1830 census of DeKalb County, Georgia shows B. M. Owens with a male born between 1770 and 1780, 2 males born between 1815 and 1820, 1 female born between 1780 and 1790, 1 female born between 1810 and 1815, 1 female born between 1815 and 1820 and 1 female born between 1820 and 1825. The 1840 census shows Brice M. Owen in Meriwether County, Georgia with one male born between 1770 and 1780, 2 males born between 1810 and 1820, 1 female born between 1790 and 1800, 1 female born between 1810 and 1820, 1 female born between 1820 and 1825 and 6 slaves.

The 1850 census of Meriwether County, Georgia shows Brice M. Owen was born in 1785 in Virginia and Sarah Owen was born in 1785 in North Carolina. On July 14, 1812, Brice M. Owen married Sarah Lane in Jasper County, Georgia. Sarah Lane was perhaps a second wife.

The will of Coleman P. Owen, a son of Brice M. Owen, dated 8 August 1872 and found in Will Book B, pages 200 and 201, of Meriwether County, Georgia, mentions his sons Charles Coleman Owen, Dr. Bricy Marshall Owen and William L. Owen, deceased, and the children of Mary Ann Cole. Coleman P. Owen had married Charlotte Allen in Walton County on 25 November 1830. Dr. Bricy Marshall Owen practiced medicine in Hollonville, Pike County, Georgia, for over forty years. See S. J. Clarke Publishing Company History of Georgia, Volume 2, page 405. A son of Dr. Bricy Marshall Owen, Emmett Marshall Owen, served in the United States House of Representatives from 1933 to 1939. See biographical Dictionary of the American Congress 1774-1941, page 1641.
