The Treaty’s Benefit-sharing Fund:•Supports projects aimed at smallholder farmers indeveloping countries who conserve and sustainably useplant genetic resources for food and agriculture.•Priorities of the Benefit-sharing Fund:
− sustainable use;− on farm management and conservation;− information exchange, technology transfer and
capacity building.•First set of projects were approved by the Governing Body of the Treaty at its Third Session (Tunisia, 2009).

Second Educational Module Available
• Educational Module 2 on Conservation and Sustainable Use under the International Treaty is now available;
• Provides technical background related to conservation and sustainable use with international, regional, national and local examples;
• Deals with technical aspects within the legal framework for crop diversity management;
• Targets both political and scientific stakeholders, as well as other stakeholders in the agriculture sector.

The main objective of the GRIP-programme is to provide advanced training for senior professionals working at national level: • government ministries • PVP/patent offices• ABS institutions• national gene banks • Academia and in the private sector.
Training goal: to be able to better navigate in the increasingly complex “genetic policy landscape”

Cooperation with CBD, Resolution 8/2011
R8/2011, Part I, the Governing Body:– Congratulates the COP on the adoption of the
Nagoya Protocol;– Appeals to Contracting Parties to sign and ratify;– Takes note of the Memorandum of Cooperation;– Requests the Secretary to explore with the SCBD on,
practical means and activities to give effect to this cooperation;
– Requests the Secretary to strengthen collaboration with the SCBD;
– Calls on Contracting Parties to ensure mutual supportiveness in the implementation of the Treaty and the Nagoya protocol.

administrative and financial implications of transferring activities or tasks related to PGRFA from the Commission to the GB;
• Exploration of options for close cooperation that may gradually lead to an agreed functional division of tasks and activities, including through possible joint Bureau meeting;
• Facilitating collaboration of Contracting Parties on State of the World Report, 2nd Global Plan of Action and Genebank Standards
