BACKGROUND Inline with OSH MP15 aims:

Prevent the development of occupational diseases

Continue under OSH MP2020 – Strategy 4 re-engineering industrial hygiene

Low level of compliance with IH regulations especially among SME.

IH regulation were seen to be complicated and costly.

Two (2) years target for OH intervention program:

1(ENTRY)

• Commitment from management to implement program• Appointment of person- in-charge (PIC) to implement program

SoHELP METHODOLOGY 1. Invitation letter is sent to selected workplaces.

2. SHO will be trained by DOSH and agreement letter by the company to

participate in SoHELP will be issued.

3. SHO will brief Safety and Health Committee as well as workers about

SoHELP.

4. The company will conduct workplace inspection base on SoHELP

checkpoints.

5. The company will plan and implement all SoHELP relevant requirements.

6. DOSH will visit and verify SoHELP level at participating workplaces. If

necessary, coaching programme will be conducted (6 times in 14 months).

7. At the end of each calendar cycle, SHO will be rewarded with CEP base

on the level achieved. All participating companies will be given certificate of

appreciation at the end of SoHELP (14 months).

Proposed CEP Points:

This CEP is given base on current level.

SHO can apply for CEP once per calendar year.

SoHELP Level must be higher than previous year. If the higher level cannot be achieved in the next year, CEP may be considered if PIC can provide proof of actions taken in order to improve workplace condition pertaining to SoHELPrequirement.

If the PICs are more than one (1), proof of participation must be provided by each and everyone of PIC.

Verification of each level must be done by SoHELP Verifier.

Reduction of health risk exposure in relation of ergonomics,

chemicals and noise for around 40,000 workers in the high risk

workplace.

220 X 180 per workplace

Total of 2200 members of Safety and Health Committee

(SHC) successfully trained to implement SHC functions

through SoHELP.

220 X 10 per workplace = 2200

Total of 220 SHO/employer successfully trained as SoHELP

Synergetic DOSH – Industry cooperation and Industry – Industry cooperation is crucial to enhance workplace occupational hygiene standard.

After April 2017, SoHELP will be continued under Strategy 4 OSHMP 2020.
