November 2015 OUTSIDE THE WALLS Thoughts by Jeremiah… Hey everyone, there are so many amazing things happening at Forgotten Ministries and we are excited to share them with you. We find it easy to get caught up in the excitement of how God is moving and how fast he is moving, however, one of the things you don’t get to see is how God is moving in the day to day operations. Here at Forgotten Ministries we realize that one of the things we have fallen short in is our need to communicate and update all of the people who have invested their time and resources so they can see how the Lord is moving and changing lives. Our commitment is to try to show through testimonies, stories, videos, and things that are going on a monthly basis in our newsletter. The newsletter will inform you of progress and stories of Forgotten Ministries, Five80 Coffeehouse, Copper Tap Roasting Co., and the upcoming opening of our new Forgotten Ministries Training Center and The Oasis Transitional housing project. We will also include local outreaches, visiting ministry teams who come to serve Enid, our amazing volunteers, and special projects that are coming up. Since Forgotten Ministries began six and a half years ago, it has been an adventure that has continued to stretch and grow many of us to learn to have a heart like Jesus. Our prayer is that many of you will see how the Gospel can change people’s lives by working through everyday people. Forgotten Ministries realizes that without God's grace in our lives, this world would be a lot darker place. Our prayer is to share that grace with anyone and everyone we come in contact with so they can see God’s light in everything we do. We also hope to stretch each of you to show the light of Jesus as we all can agree… “The Church Has Left The Building” Jeremiah Adina and Pearl Meet Our Volunteers ADINA LONG Adina has been with the ministry for a little over four years. She helps with our outreaches, the kids, and has even helped with the construction of the Training Center. “I have grown as a person, especially in my walk with God since I started hanging out with Forgotten Ministries. People push me to be the person I can become rather than letting me stand still, you know, not grow. I love doing life with this ministry!” Jeremiah helps a child carry the cross

OUTSIDE THE WALLS

Meet Our Volunteers ADINA LONG

Adina has been with the ministry for a little over four years. She helps with our outreaches, the kids, and has even helped with the construction of the Training Center. “I have grown as a person, especially in my walk with God since I started hanging out with Forgotten Ministries. People push me to be the person I can become rather than letting me stand still, you know, not grow. I love doing life with this ministry!”

Five80 Coffeehouse My name is Chad Eastin, I am the “Roaster” and one of the managers at the Five80 Coffeehouse. I have been working for the Five80 for just over two years.

I transitioned from teaching high school math into the coffee world because I believe in what Five80 represents and the opportunity it would provide for ministry. Since I have started here I have developed relationships that have far surpassed my expectations. From the poorest, most down and out, to the wealthy business person all coming in to see a smiling face, someone familiar and ready to greet them and even lend an ear when needed. The relationships also range from simple greetings all the way to people who have poured out their lives and struggles hoping to find some solace. I have seen people fail and I have seen people succeed.

One such story of success was a young man that walked in the door one day, fresh out of jail, and told of his plight. He had a newborn, but was homeless and needing a job. He was penniless and needed an ID before he could apply for a job. I gave him the $25 for him to purchase an ID, fully expecting him to walk out and never return. The next day he was back in with a smile and a job! He has since moved on to a higher paying job and I get to see him and his daughter around town and here lately, he has been showing up at my church! God is good and uses His willing followers. The coffeehouse is a great platform for that very thing to happen.

What We Do Our goal at Forgotten Ministries is to touch every house in Enid, and if needed, meet both the spiritual and physical needs. Below you will read about the different ways we serve our community and all that God is doing in this ministry. Our favorite part of working in this ministry is partnering with the local church and together truly being the hands and feet of Jesus.

Mission Trips FM loves to provide safe and affordable mission trips for the smaller group (10-25 people) who desires to see local missions in a deeper way. If this is something your group is interested in, please contact us and we will be glad to talk to you about scheduling.

Our team members will work with you to plan a physically and spiritually demanding mission trip for your team. You may be cleaning someone’s house, serving snow cones at a local park, carrying a large wooden cross, leading a VBS, or any number of things for Jesus. You may be stretched past your comfort zones, but it will be a very fulfilling and impactful time.

Weekly Missions Forgotten Ministries partners with local churches for several missions on a weekly or monthly basis. We are always looking for churches to come along side us and serve!

Don Haskins Park—Every Tuesday we give away a meal, clothes, and the Gospel at the basketball courts across from St. Mary’s Hospital. New View Apartments—The first and the third Thursdays of the month you will find us serving the people of Southern Heights. Pine Manor—A ministry we hope to return to this spring. We are looking for churches to partner with us for this ministry. Laundry Love— We visit a local laundry mat; supply quarters, soap, food, the Word, and lots of love! Nursing Homes- We love serving and loving on the seniors in our community.

The Oasis—Transitional Housing As we have become more aware of the desperate need of housing for men that are released from prison, we believe we have developed a program that could be the answer for a small group of individuals looking for a way to re-enter society with people that have their best interest at heart. We have established a preliminary re-entry program that starts while they are still incarcerated. This process gives us the ability to get to know them before they are released, and determine if our program would be the best fit for them as they transition back into society. Below is a broad outline of our expectations while they are still incarcerated and then after entering our program:

Client will be asked to fill out an in depth application

Be assigned to a trained and “badged” mentor (designated by FM)

Assistance with life skill training

GED assistance

Money management classes

Celebrate Recovery classes

ID/Social Security Assistance

Job skill training

Communication skills training

Resume writing skills

Leadership skills

Once released, each individual will start Phase 1 (30 days), in our temporary program housing. They will be expected to follower strict guidelines, such as curfew, random drug testing, continual training where needed, find a job, and report daily to a dorm manager. Accountability to their mentors will be very crucial to each phase of this program. Clients will be charged a minimal amount for rent so that they can save money toward a deposit on their own house or apartment.

Once Phase 1 is completed, client will continue on to Phase 2, and 3 (also 30 days each). Each phase will be more lenient and aim to increase the client’s ability to be a productive, self-sufficient citizen. After all phases are completed participants will graduate from our program and start their lives well prepared to succeed in society. Below is a picture of the first bunkhouse as it was delivered to our land.

Other Happenings in the last year… Here are a few events we have been privileged enough to provide in the last year. We look forward to host many more groups as they learn to be the hands and feet of Jesus!

Money Management Class When you work for Dave Ramsey, you must choose one mission trip a Year. This sweet couple to the right chose Forgotten Ministries! They worked hard on projects with us and then taught a budgeting class in the Five80 conference room. We were also blessed with the Financial Peace training study from them when they returned home!

Our first of several teams to serve on Mission with FM This group came from California to learn how to do ministry outside the four walls of the church. We were able to do everything from doing church in a park, projects at a nursing home, serving the people of New View apartments and planting flowers in the yards of an east side neighborhood. They were able to stay in our mission housing above five80 coffeehouse and we were so blessed to have them!

Ames, OK

Forgotten Ministries traveled to Ames, OK and partnered with the First Baptist Church to touch the lives of many people in the community. We set up camp in the lot next to the church and got busy! Everyone worked hard, cleaning yards, building porches, repairing and painting homes. We gave out backpacks, clothes and food. We left that community with many new life long friends!

Christmas Gifts Forgotten Ministries partners with many local churches to provide Christmas for those who may not get to experience Christmas otherwise.

It’s always a great time teaching about the life of Jesus!

Veterans Fundraising Dinner We had the opportunity to host a fundraiser dinner to raise money for Veteran’s Acres, a local housing project for homeless veterans. All veterans in the local area were invited and current military members from Vance AFB were thrilled to get to serve them.

Mission Trip To California Forgotten Ministries leadership team went on a mission trip to Skid Row in Los Angeles, CA. Skid Row has over 10,000 homeless people in a 4-block radius. Our team fed the homeless, handed out water bottles, and even gave away flowers to bring a ray of light to such a dismal atmosphere. We also served meals at the Union Rescue Mission and passed out candy in Macarthur Park. It was an incredible time serving the Lord together as a team.

”Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy laden,

and I will give you rest. ”Take My yoke upon you

and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in

heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR

SOULS.” Matthew 11:28-29
