BRYANT McKINNIE coached up the offensive linemen and sported a Cooper Football t-shirt to support our J.P.D. Camp at Cooper High school.

At the J.P.D. Camp at Griffi n Stadium in St. Paul, a youth running back worked on ball security.

In 2008, more than 1,000 young people were touched by our Vikings Youth Football programming. Our Junior Player Development (J.P.D.) camps, which are designed to introduce tackle football to youngsters 12-14, touched more than 600 children and our collaboration with the Minnesota High School Football Coaches Association (MHSFCA) allowed us to reach hundreds more in Greater Minnesota. Viktor the Viking became a fi xture on the Vikings roster in 2007 and has since become an outstanding ambassador of goodwill for the organization. Since joining the Vikings, this fun-loving mascot has spent much of his time visiting Minnesota communities to spread Vikings pride and bring joy to others. In his fi rst two years on the Vikings roster, Viktor has made hundreds of appearances throughout the state at various community events and other functions. His participation will continue to grow as Viktor becomes a prominent fi gure in the Minnesota community. To schedule a Viktor visit, call 952-918-8512 or email [email protected] .net.

The Minnesota Vikings Cheerleaders (MVC) and Viktor the Viking are charged with energizing passionate

Vikings fans on Sundays. But their contribution and commitment aren’t limited to game day or a football fi eld –

these talented women and Viktor spend time in the community, appearing at over 300 events each year. The MVC and Viktor continued to be in demand for corporate, community and charity events around the state and beyond. This commitment has even crossed borders with trips to support our American troops in Iraq, Japan and other countries as well as work with International dance and cheer teams in Mexico. Aside from leading cheers on game day and community involvement, the MVC also serve as role models for hundreds of young ladies ages 5-18 through their Junior and Senior Cheerleading Programs, as well as the All-Star Team. Each program is specifi c to the age group and all participants gain invaluable experience from one-on-one coaching by the MVC. Other great perks include MVC autographs, photos, apparel and tickets to a Vikings game. The highlight, however, is the opportunity to cheer in front of 64,000 Vikings fans alongside the best cheerleaders in the NFL. The MVC alumni are active in supporting the current MVC, the Vikings and the community as well. The A* Team, consisting of alumni MVC, perform on the plaza on game day and have helped support Vikings events. The alumni MVC celebrated their offi cial 25th season in 2008. These women loved their time on the team and are proud to stay involved in this special way. BEST FOUNDATION

MARK WILF participated in Bill Austin’s Starkey Hearing Foundation mission to provide 175 Minnesota children with state-of-the-art digital hearing instruments. Also participating in the mission were STEVE HUTCHINSON and Governor TIM PAWLENTY.

Head Coach BRAD CHILDRESS served as the guest speaker at the Opening Ceremonies of the Special Olympics Minnesota Summer Games. Since arriving in Minnesota, Coach Childress—who was joined by his daughter Cara—has been an advocate of SOM. In 2008, SOM celebrated its 35th anniversary.

CHAD and JENNI GREENWAY took a break from meeting and greeting fans for a photo at the Minnesota Taste of the NFL. Taste of the NFL is an annual event held at Winter Park that allows players, coaches and staff, local celebrities, caring fans and chefs to gather for a night of football, fun and food in an effort to support hunger relief. Funds raised in 2008 were directed to the new Vikings Summer Lunch program benefi ting area youth.

In November, Samsung and the Vikings hosted a Consumer Electronics Recycling Drive at the Metrodome. TYRELL JOHNSON, BRYANT MCKINNIE, SIDNEY RICE and BRIAN ROBISON pitched in to help unload the cars of environmentally–concerned Vikings fans.

For the second consecutive year, the Vikings donated a large portion of their player Training Camp bicycles to a wonderful cause. This year’s benefi ciary was the V3 Youth Triathlon Team. BRAD MADSON helped V3’s Sarah Hernandez and a young athlete collect the bikes in Mankato.

State Representative JOE ATKINS and HEATH FARWELL promoted education at the May Day 5K that benefi ted the Inver Grove Heights BEST Foundation.

“When you have a platform it helps a great amount. Whenever

somebody has a platform for whatever reason, whether it be

a professional athlete or someone else, it can only help the

situation and raise awareness. When there’s a platform, people

listen more. And people pay more attention to it so hopefully

people will notice this and help out in any way they can.”

– Kenechi Udeze

Early in 2008, Kenechi Udeze was diagnosed with Leukemia. On April 18, Kenechi made his fi rst public appearance since being diagnosed. He did it in style by welcoming participants to Winter Park for the fi rst ever 24-hour soccer “Marrowthon” and since then has been leading the charge to create awareness for the National Marrow Donor program and Leukemia.

A key part of Kenechi’s effort to raise awareness about blood cancers was his participation in the kickoff of “Pennies For Patients” at Chaska Middle School West in January of 2009. “Pennies For Patients” is a Leukemia & Lymphoma Society-sponsored program that encourages students to donate their spare change to fund blood cancer research and patient aid programs. Last year, Chaska Middle School West was the top fundraising school in Minnesota and placed third nationally, raising $30,034.85. Udeze spoke to the students to congratulate them on their 2008 effort and to encourage them to be the top fundraising school nationally in 2009.

Throughout this past year, Kenechi has battled Leukemia and he’s been an inspiration to many while he’s done it. In recognition of his courageous battle and positive attitude, Kenechi was named the Vikings 2008 Ed Block Courage Award winner.

The Marrow Foundation’s President and former Viking DOUG KINGSRITER presented KENECHI UDEZE with a Marrowthon t-shirt. At the event, Kenechi announced that after his treatment, he was cancer free.

OTHER VIKINGS/NFL VOLUNTEER GRANTS

In addition to our Community Quarterback Award, we offer volunteer grants for high school and college students through our Junior Community Quarterback Awards. For students in middle school or younger we offer Community Student All Star grants. If you know someone who would be a strong candidate for these grants, visit vikings.com and click on the “community” icon.

2008 COMMUNITY QUARTERBACK

SEAN GOTHIER — NATIONAL FOOTBALL FOUNDATION

The state of Minnesota is fortunate to have thousands of residents who are committed to volunteering. The Minnesota Vikings recognize one individual annually who goes above and beyond all expectations to aid a community and make a difference in the lives of others. This person is honored as the Minnesota Vikings Community Quarterback.

In 2008, Sean Gothier volunteered to head up the Minnesota chapter of the National Football Foundation (NFF) and has practically single-handedly turned the chapter into the fastest growing one in the nation. The National Football Foundation’s mission statement is to promote

the power of amateur football in developing the qualities of

leadership, sportsmanship, competitive zeal and the drive

for academic excellence in America’s young people. Through the NFF’s “Play It Smart” program, Academic Coaches help student-athletes take responsibility for their futures through lessons learned on the playing fi eld, in the classroom and in service to others.

When Sean humbly accepted the $5,000 award he said, “This money will go to our Scholarship Fund and will help several students further their education. We are excited about the future of the NFF in Minnesota. This support and recognition from the Minnesota Vikings will help bolster our efforts.”

We are proud to name Sean Gothier our 2008 Community Quarterback and thank him for growing the great game of amateur football, with an emphasis on academics and good citizenship. If you would like to join and support the National Football Foundation, email Sean at: [email protected]. Keep up the good work, Sean!

Former Vikings great ED McDANIEL congratulated Jimere Douglas of Park Center High School, who was named the winner of the NFF Play It Smart PRIDE Award. Douglas was joined by his NFF Play It Smart Academic Coach Carlee Tressel and Sean Gothier at the NFF Awards Dinner.

Vikings Executive Director of Community Relations BRAD MADSON presented Sean with the 2008 Vikings Community Quarterback Award for his volunteerism with the National Football Foundation.

Defensive Line Coach KARL DUNBAR, along with MARTAIL BURNETT, LETROY GUION and OTIS GRIGSBY, visited St. Paul Central High School and saluted NFF Play It Smart Academic Coach Carl Brown and player Martin Smith. St. Paul Central won the 2008 St. Paul City Conference.

The Minnesota Vikings are committed

to making our community a better

place to live, work and play through

charitable efforts. We hope the

preceding pages have given you

a picture of some of the many

outstanding organizations we

assist during the year with time,

monetary donations and autographed

memorabilia. However, it’s just a

sampling of how we continue to meld

with the state of Minnesota.

DONATION ITEMSThe Minnesota Vikings’ popularity allows thousands of opportunities for charities to benefi t

from the team’s success. Donating merchandise and autographed memorabilia to nonprofi t

groups is another Vikings tradition. Examples of the events we support include: school

fundraisers, charity auctions, benefi ts for cancer patients, raffl es and community fundraisers.

To receive a donation, we must receive a type-written request four weeks in advance of your

event. The request must be from within the fi ve-state area of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa,

North Dakota or South Dakota. For written request procedure please call 952-828-6527.

PLAYER APPEARANCESThe bond between the Minnesota Vikings and the community is never more evident than

when a player volunteers his time at a school, hospital, or community event. If you would

like to request a player appearance, please call 952-828-6527 for the written request

procedure. As with donations, we must receive a type-written letter postmarked at least

four weeks in advance of your event. Due to the hundreds of written requests we receive,

we hold periodic drawings for community visits. If your written request is selected, we will

call you two to four weeks prior to our visit. If you are looking for a donation item or player

appearance to make a difference at your event, please write to:

COMMITMENT TO ALL OF MINNESOTAThe Minnesota Vikings rich history in our state dates back nearly 50 years. And,

as the special bond between the Vikings and the community has grown over

time, so has the organization’s social responsibility to Minnesota. Nonprofi t

organizations throughout the state look to the Vikings for assistance—be it a

monetary donation, autographed item, clothing or just smiles brought about

by a player visit. The Vikings organization, along with its players, coaches,

cheerleaders and Viktor willingly accepts this role. We receive literally 300

written requests a week and the following is just a sampling of the outreach we
