I would like to thank the Vogeltown Board of Trustees, the Vogeltown Home and School, Vogeltown Staff, Vogeltown students and the Vogeltown community for my wonderful welcome to Vogeltown and for making me feel like ‘one of the whanau’ from day one! This school and community certainly lives up to its wonderful name and I am proud to part of the ‘Vogeltown way’ of life! SCHOOL GOAL It has been a wonderful last couple of weeks as the kids have been involved in amazing activities and they have all participated responsibly. It is great to see our goal being a focus: ”To end 2015 responsibly – ensuring I continue to work to the best of my ability and have fun’”. CLASSES FOR 2016 We are lucky enough to be able to staff the school as it is was at the beginning of 2015. Unfortunately this means Mrs Treadway is going to leave us a full time teacher for a little while – but she has promised me she will be back and we will see Adrienne in Rm 8 each Thursday. Our school roll is going to end 2015 at 329 students! Classes for 2016 are: JUNIOR TEAM MIDDLE TEAM – YEAR 3/4 Rm 1 Mrs Lee Newland – Team Leader/AP NE Rm 11 Mrs Sheila Parker – Team Leader/DP Rm 2 Mrs Philippa Fairclough Y1 Rm 7 Mrs Linda Sleep Rm 3 Mrs Heather Oliver Y1/2 Rm 9 Mrs Laura Seed Rm 4 Mrs Caroline Irving Y1/2 Rm 13 Mr Tom Lancaster Rm 5 Mrs Jo Harold Y1/2 RELEASE TEACHERS SENIOR TEAM – YEAR 5/6 Lee Newland Jane Boot Rm 8 Mr Mike George – Team Leader/DP Sheila Parker Raewyn Andrews Rm 10 Mr Nathan Ransfield Mike George Adrienne Treadway Rm 12 Mr Josh Stirling Tom Lancaster Dani Melody Rm 14 Ms Rachel Pretty Josh Stirling Dani Melody HOME AND SCHOOL A huge thank you to the Vogeltown Home and School who had their last meeting last week. It is with some sadness that we reluctantly had the resignation of Andrea Tait and Tracey Tompkins from the committee as their kids move on to Highlands. Thanks for everything you have done for the committee over the years guys, we certainly have appreciated it! We are now planning and looking forward to our first meeting in the new year and planning for the traditional and annual Vogeltown ‘Funanza’.

YEAR 6 LEAVERS ASSEMBLY A wonderful tradition at Vogeltown is the Yr 6 Leavers assembly. This is an event for all Yr 6 students, parents, caregivers and whanau to attend. It will be held on the night of Tuesday 15 December beginning at 6pm at the senior school site for a shared picnic tea, then we will go in to the hall for a formal farewell. It would be great to see all the Yr 6 students and whanau here for this event. DONATIONS Thank you so much for all the donations we received for the school hangi, we really appreciate this as the kids experience first hand the traditional maori cooking technique. Thanks also for the ‘Funanza’ donations, keep these coming in as we try to make the 2016 Funanza the best yet! ROAD SAFETY Well done to Mrs Irving and the ‘Lets Go’ team for the work that they have done over the year to get kids to school safely, to minimise the use of cars and change some of our habits in the morning and afternoons. We still have an area of concern with kids crossing Hursthouse Street. If you are around in the mornings, can you watch out for our kids as they cross this small, but dangerous street. We have had two close calls in the last week that could have ended tragically. LOST PROPERTY We have a HUGE amount of lost property in the school at the moment. If you are missing any clothing then please check the lost property at both sites. We will be putting the lost property out on the concrete in front of the schools each fine day. We will get the kids to check, however, if you are passing then please have a look. RETURNING SCHOOL RESOURCES Please have a hunt around at home for any school resources that need to be returned asap. Things like home readers, library books and any sports uniforms. Please bring them back to school if you find them so we can stock take for the year. Thanks to all the resources we have had returned so far – well done! REPORTS Your child will be bringing their school report home on Monday afternoon. This will also state their class and room for 2016, plus a stationery list for 2016. On Tuesday morning after play, students will meet their 2016 teacher and classmates. ATHLETICS Yesterday we had a wonderful morning of athletics for the Middle and Senior school. The children participated in High Jump, Long Jump, Discus and Shot Put. After that we had class relays and then teacher vs children relays. It was great fun on a stunning sunny day. Thanks to Mr Ransfield for his awesome organisation and all the teachers who ran in the relay. INCREDIBLE YEARS PROGRAMME FOR PARENTS - See attached sheets - Any parents/caregivers/whanau interested in being a part of this in 2016, register at the email on the attached sheet.

WEETBIX TRYATHLON - Registrations are open for this event now. It is a very popular event - last year it sold out. It will be run on Wed March 30 2016 at Ngamotu Beach. Children who are interested can get a registration form from Mr George. If you register through school the entry fee is discounted.

We will be having a ‘one pager’ newsletter next week, this will come out on Wednesday. Thanks Whanau, Ka Kite Ano, Jeremy Ogle – Principal
