Writing Task Monday– *Speaking/Geography focus*
Learning Point: To talk about the features of the seaside
Over the next two weeks you will be exploring the British seaside in more detail. You have already
learnt about some of the human and physical features in Geography. Can you remember what those
terms mean? Where would you look for seaside resorts? On the next sheet there is a map of seaside
resorts. Please complete the sheet by putting a circle around all the places that could be seaside
resorts. Then try to match the resort photographs to where they are on the map.
Look at the next sheet with some of the features of seaside resorts. Check you can sort into human
(man-made) and physical (natural) features. Can you remember some facts about what is shown.?
Imagine that a grown up knows nothing about these features. You will now become the teacher and
point to different features on the poster and clearly explain what the features are.
You could use some of the following sentence openers:
This poster shows….
The physical features shown are….
Did you know….?
If you look at the ______ carefully you can ….
A favourite thing to do at the seaside is …..
You would enjoy…..
The seaside is famous for…..

Writing Task Tuesday – *Writing Focus*
Learning Point: To describe a seaside resort
Today you will be looking at prepositions. Prepositions are words that tell you where
or when something is in relation to something else. They often give positional
language. Look at the sheet on the next page with examples of prepositions.
The following sheet shows a detailed picture of a seaside resort with some of the
features discussed yesterday. Look carefully at the scene and complete the sentences
by using the correct prepositions.
Make sure your own sentence is clear with capital letters and full stops included.
Challenge
Look at the A4 seaside photograph of
Cromer and describe the position of the
features you can see as well as explaining what
they look like. You could explore being the teacher
again and a grown up could keep a list of how
many different prepositions you used. Make sure
your description is interesting and informative!
Steps to Success
* I can write a clear sentence with
a capital letter and full stop.
* I can use positional language.
* I can use conjunctions.
* I can use adventurous adjectives

Writing Task Wednesday– *Speaking and Listening Focus*
Learning Point: To have a seaside experience
Over the next few days you will be travel agents. What is a travel agent? A travel agent helps people plan, choose and arrange their holiday. They offer advice on where
to go and local tourist attractions.
Good travel agents will need to have experienced what they are writing or talking about.
Today you are going to imagine that you are at a new seaside resort called ‘SandyToe’. We hope you will be able to experience a number of seaside activities. The important thing is to
be creative and use what you can.
Ideas include:
Make sure you have a fun time and
use your imagination
Try to get the whole family involved
in your SEASIDE EXPERIENCE!
Building sandcastles
Creating a pretend rock pool to fish in by using
nets in a paddling pool or bowl
Playing games such as skittles, tennis, throwing a
Frisbee or beach ball.
Having a picnic with either real or imaginary ice cream!
Performing a puppet show like Punch and Judy.
There are some resources provided that might be
useful and also a fun board game to play.
Don’t forget the seaside songs you have been
learning too!
You could cut these out to tell a Punch and
Judy story.

Writing Task Thursday – *Writing Focus*
Learning Point: To explore travel brochures and adverts Think about your seaside experiences yesterday. What were your favourite parts? Why?
Over the next few days you will be writing your own travel brochure or advert to persuade people to come to the seaside. What do we mean by persuade?
Persuade means ‘To give a good reason for someone to do something’
Today you will be looking at examples of brochures and will check what is included against a list on the next
sheet. Think about the layout and the type of language included. Either read the brochures yourself of discuss
as an adult reads with you.
Steps to Success
*I can read/listen to information
*I can look at how something is presented.
*I can identify features
*I can share my findings

Science
This week we would like you to find out more about the
differences between flowering plants.
Find two very different flowering plants in
your garden or whilst out and about. Look carefully to
see how the plants are different. You could use a
magnifying glass. Think about the shape and colour of the
stem, leaves and petals as well as the smell and
size of the plant.
Try to draw the two plants and label them.
Now answer the questions on the next sheet about
the flowers on your two different flowering plants.
Go down the list and answer questions about your first plant
before repeating for the second. Compare your answers. Are there
lots of differences or are most of the answers similar? Why do
you think this is?
Remember to complete another page of your seed diary.
How well are your plants growing? Are you remembering
to water them?
Art/DT This week you will need to evaluate the fish you have designed
and created over the last few weeks.
Try to put a photograph in your book or draw a picture of your
finished fish.
Use the sentence openers: My fish is great because________
I could make my fish better by ____
Geography/English This week our English and Geography are linked. It would be
good if you could look at some travel brochures, particularly
those advertising sea-side resorts in the UK. This would help
you to become familiar with the layout and main features of
this style of writing.
Otherwise look online at a seaside resort you have visited and
read about the main features and look at some photographic
images or look at your own seaside photographs.
PSHE- LP: To understand how to
stay safe in the sun
At this time of year it is very
important that you keep in the
shade and drink lots of water.
Discuss this poster and
consider where you can find
shade in school and your garden
