Happy Mother’s Day!
To Mothers, Grandmothers, Aunts, Godmothers and all those who stand in place of mothers. Whether you have given birth to a child, adopted a child or just given your life to supporting children, you are a blessing that cannot be
replaced!
We hope you enjoyed your day on May 10 and were able to connect with those you love.
Are you at nutritional risk? Many older adults are at risk due to many factors including chronic illness, medication, mobility status and economic factors.
The Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) is sponsored by Toledo Seagate Food Bank and part of the US Department of Agriculture. It provides a box of food each month for income eligible seniors to enhance nutrition. It is a source of healthy foods including: fruits, vegetables, grains, milk and protein.
How do I qualify?
Be at least 60 years old
Have an income that falls under 130% of the poverty guidelines
$1354/ month for household of 1
$1832/month for household of 2
You or a proxy must be able to pick up your food box each month on the 4th Wednesday from 1-2:30
There are boxes available at both Defiance and Hicksville locations
If you think you may qualify and have not applied, please contact Sue Weller at 419-782-3233 for an application.
Transportation
As you are all aware, our transportation department is still available to pick up groceries and prescriptions for you. Just place the order and pay for them and we will deliver them to you. On May 1st the governor began allowing non-essential medical appointments. We will transport for those as well. To keep you, as well as our drivers safe, we have been using the bus for transports as much as possible. As transports pick up, we will also need to use regular vehicles. Our rules for transports are that you will need to sit in the back seat in order to maintain as much distance as possible in the vehicle and both you and the driver must wear a mask. If you cannot get into the back seat of a sedan due to physical limitations, please let us know when you call so that we can schedule accordingly.

Home Delivered Meals
Home Delivered Meals will continue to arrive weekly on Mondays only. DCSS will continue cooking in bulk each week and freezing the meals for our drivers to deliver to you on Mondays. Remember, they can be warmed in the microwave for 3-4 minutes on high or reheated in the oven at 350o for 15 minutes.
Our May menu will be “Cook’s Choice”
NOTE: DCSS is closed 5/25 for Memorial Day therefore delivery will be made on Tuesday 5/26/2020
We continue to provide nutritious meals, meeting all requirements of the Area Office on Aging home delivered meal program but, due to supply shortages and substitutions we are unable to guarantee exact menu items weekly.
Thank you for your patience and understanding during this trying time!
