CHRIST, KING OF ALL

On this, the final Sunday of the liturgical year, we celebrate the solemnity of Christ the King. By concluding the year with this feast we are proclaiming our faith that Jesus Christ is the one and only king over all seasons, all peoples, and all of creation.

At the end of time as we know it, Christ’s work of restoring all things to unity and harmony with their Creator God will be completed. This Sunday, when we claim Christ as both our Shepherd and our King, we recognize our own calling to participate in Christ’s saving work by caring for those whom Jesus calls “the least ones” (Matthew 25:45). SCHOOL STUDENT NON-DISCRIMINATION POLICY The school, mindful of its mission to be a witness to the love of Christ for all, admits students regardless of race, color or national and/or ethnic origin to all rights, privi-leges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available at the school. The school does not discriminate on the basis of race, col-or, disability, sex or national and/or ethnic origin in the administration of educational policies, admissions poli-cies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and oth-er school-administered programs, although certain athlet-ic leagues and other programs may limit participation and some archdiocesan schools operate as single sex schools. While the school does not discriminate against students with special needs, a full range of services may not always be available to them. Decisions concerning the admission and continued enrollment of a student in the school are based upon the student’s emotional, academic and physi-cal abilities and the resources available to the school in meeting the student’s needs.

A Christmas Carol Play

At a parish woman's retreat, participants shared their own gifts and then identified the gifts of the other members of their small group. One woman was the last one to share in her small group of women. The others in the group were effusive, recounting all the gifts they saw in her. Finally, the woman responded, "Say, would one of you mind giving my husband a quick call and let him know I'm too good for him?" OH, BROTHER! Monthly: 1st Friday & Saturday ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT Friday, December 1st, 2017 – 8:30 AM to 7:00 PM

Come join us for meditative prayer before Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament every First Friday of the month, starting after the 8:00 am Mass until 7:00 pm, followed by a Mass at 7:30 pm.

We invite our parishioners to spend some time before the Blessed Sacrament and pray for an increase in vocations and your own personal intentions.

“The Church and the world have a great need of Eucharistic worship. Jesus waits for us in this Sacrament of Love. Let us be generous with

our time in going to meet Him in adoration and in contemplation that is full of faith… May our adoration never cease.” – Saint John Paul II

ROSARY PROCESSION WALK & BENEDICTION 1st Saturday, December 2nd, 2017 – Immediately following the 5pm Mass. Join us for a walk around our Church campus, as we recite the entire Rosary, ending with the Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.

DID YOU KNOW? If you’re traveling to spend Thanksgiving with friends or family, it’s important that everyone in your group is up to speed on travel safety, and this safety starts at home. Make sure you have plans in place that let friends and family know where you’re headed, and set up your house to look “lived-in” when you’re on the road. Teach kids to pack smart—avoid bringing unneeded valuables and carry only the necessary ID cards and money in the event of an emergency. For a copy of the VIRTUS® article “Family Travel and Vacation Safety,”: http://www.la-archdiocese.org/org/protecting/Pages/VIRTUS-Current-Online-Articles.aspx or call (213) 637-7508.

Please keep your personal belongings (i.e. purses/handbags) in sight and with you at all times during Mass. Also remember to lock your car and hide your valuables from plain sight.

Important Reminders

Treasures From Our Tradition Today we have a modern feast, less than a century old, and placed at the very end of the liturgical cycle of Sundays only in 1969. In 1925, the world was in a sorry state from the vantage point of Pope Pius XI. The winds of war had swept the map of Europe raw, and ancient Christian dynasties had fallen in Russia and Spain. Alt-hough the Great War had ended, wars were breaking out everywhere. Fascism was already in control in Italy, and Nazism was on the horizon for Germany. The disorder making its claim on the human race was, the pope felt, an insult to the Divine Order. Pius XI designated the last Sunday in October as a day of universal recognition of the kingship of Christ. Creating this feast was an act of brav-ery by the pope, who was standing up against idolatry of the state and the dehumanizing forces of the modern world, things that are not hard to detect in today’s world as well. In 1969 it seemed fitting to move the feast to a place of honor at the end of the year, a way of summing up the whole movement of the liturgical year toward the perfection of the Kingdom of God. In recent decades, many Protestant churches have adopted this day from the new Roman calendar, so it is shared now with the Church of England, the Episcopal, Presbyterian, and Lutheran churches, and others. —Rev. James Field, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

The Giving Tree The annual St. Barnabas Giving Tree program is back during this Christmas season! There are Christmas trees located at each of the church exits, and inside the Parish Center. Please select ornaments off of the trees and return the new and unwrapped items listed on each ornament. In addition to the gifts, diapers are desperately needed to help the young families in need. All gifts will be gathered and delivered to the Marian Center here in Long Beach by the Pack 32 Cub Scouts on December 17th. You are welcome to drop off gifts prior to the 17th though. Thank you for your generosity by helping our brothers and sisters in Christ. Also, if you are in need or know of any other families from St. Barnabas Parish in need, please contact the Rectory. We would also like to reserve Giving Tree presents for local parishioners.
