Message from the Padre
In our Gospel this weekend, Peter and his companions have been fishing
all night but caught nothing. So Jesus suggested that they, “Go out into the deep
water and let down their nets.” Peter replied, “Master, we have worked hard all
night and have caught nothing, but at your command I will lower the nets.”
My dear friends, just like Peter, there is a point in our lives when we pro-
test that we have done all that we can and it is time for us to say, “we have had
enough.” These feelings of desperation and hopelessness can happen to anyone, not
only in times of hardship, but also in times of affliction and illness. Yes, we can all
agree that tough times happen to all of us. Illness always makes us ask the question,
“Why is this happening to me?” But let us not forget that our suffering is not God’s
fault, as He always has our best interests at heart. He knows our pleading and that is why just like Peter, he is asking us not to
lose hope but to trust and have faith in him. We have to remember that having faith does not always make our affliction disap-
pear… but having faith in God will always give us the grace and strength to accept the difficulties we are going through....
giving us the peace and understanding that only Christ can give.
This Monday, February 11th, we are celebrating World Day of the Sick. This special day offers us an opportunity to
draw particularly close to people who are ill, and to those who care for them. It is a special day of prayer and of reminding us
that, in times of illness, we need to pray not only for healing but also for peace and comfort… a key that helps us see how ill-
ness can be the way to be closer to Christ.
My dear friends, as we celebrate World Day of the Sick, and as we receive the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick
this weekend, let us pray for ourselves and also for those who are sick… to accept in serenity of God’s healing power and
“blessed assurance” especially in time of our suffering, pain, sickness and affliction.

An unlikely thread links the three people who are called to
be disciples in today’s readings: all pronounce themselves
unworthy. Isaiah, Paul, and Peter are saints and prophets,
but each sees himself first as a sinner. As we listen to the
readings today, let us realize that even though we too are
unworthy, God still calls us to be disciples.

Respect Life Committee
The New Jersey Assembly will vote on February 25th on
Bill A1504 which would legalize doctor assisted suicide.
Any form of suicide is against both natural law and God’s
Commandments. The Executive Director of the NJ Catholic
Conference feels voicing one’s opinion to their legislators is
more effective than people realize, but time is very short for
doing so. This may be our last chance to keep New Jersey
from becoming a suicide-friendly state.
To phone in your opinion, you can reach your legislators at:

Assemblyman Herb Conaway at 856-461-3997

Prayer for Respect of Life
Heavenly Father, the beauty and dignity of human life was the
crowning of your creation. You further ennobled that life when
your Son became one with us in his incarnation. Help us to
realize the sacredness of human life and to respect it from the
moment of conception until the last moment at death. Give us
courage to speak with truth and love and with conviction in
defense of life. Help us to extend the gentle hand of mercy and
forgiveness to those who do not reverence your gift of life. To
all, grant pardon for the times we have failed to be grateful for
your precious gift of life or to respect it in others. We ask this
in Jesus’ name. Amen.
