Our Lady of the Rosary Kellyville Term 1, Week 8 20th March 2019 8 Diana Avenue, Kellyville NSW 2155 Phone 8664 7800 Email—[email protected] Website—http://www.olorkellyville.catholic.edu.au Dear Parents and Carers Last fortnight we celebrated Catholic Schools Week in NSW and we welcomed to our school new families and visitors who were here for the very first time. Despite all the building works going on around us, the feedback was very positive from these parents. We congratulate all the students involved in the Open Day celebrations and showcases. You were all wonderful ambassadors of our school. Enrolment packages are now available for families wishing to enrol their children into Kindergarten next year. The enrolment application is also available on the website and we ask existing families to share this around the community. We were very blessed last week to enjoy some cooler weather for our Cross Country. Congratulations to all our runners and a big thank you to our parents and teachers that assisted on the day. As we are now well and truly into the Lenten period and heading towards celebrating the Resurrection of Jesus at Easter, I leave you with this thought…… Faith in the resurrection of Jesus says that there is a future for every human being; the cry for unending life which is a part of the person is indeed answered. God exists: that is the real message of Easter. Anyone who even begins to grasp what this means also knows what it means to be redeemed.Pope Benedict XVI Week 8 Monday 18th March Tuesday 19th March PE : Kindergarten, Year 3 & Year 2 Wednesday 20th March PE: Years 5 and 6 Parish Mass 9.15am for Year 4 Garden Club this morning Thursday 21st March PE: Years 4, 1 and 2 Parish Mass 9.15am for Year 2 MOTIV8 for registered students 3.30 pm Year 6 Parent committee meeting Friday 22nd March Parish Mass 9.15am for Year 5 Music and Band Tuition Week 9 Monday 25th March Tuesday 26th March PE : Kindergarten, Year 3 & Year 2 Chess Club (Recess) Wednesday 27th March PE: Years 5 and 6 Parish Mass Year 3 at 9.15am Thursday 28th March Parish Mass 9.15am for Year 1 MOTIV8 for registered students only PE: Years 4, 1 and 2 Parent Session for Confirmation 7pm Friday 29th March Parish Mass @ 9.15 for Year 6 Music and Band LAST DAY OF TERM 1 WILL BE FRIDAY 12 APRIL. Please be advised that School Fees for Term 1, 2019 have been posted out from CEDP to families. Please ensure that if are setting up a payment plan you return your form to CEDP by the due date. You also have the option to log on and set up your own payment plan. Please see instruction on the front page of your fees.

If you are experiencing any financial difficulties, please call me for a confidential chat or email me on [email protected]. It is better for you to come in and speak to me so that we can develop a support plan rather than allowing a debt to accumulate. We are here to support you. Many Thanks Nicole Elliott

The Library will still be operating this year, although under a slightly different model. 3-6 Classes will be able to go to the library for borrowing on a Wednesday ONLY (unless otherwise arranged with me or Shalu). We will need to set up a timetable for the day. Each class will be allocated approximately 15 minutes to borrow. Students are to enter and leave the library quietly as this is Year 5's learning space. K-2 classes will have a mobile library come to the classroom. Days and times will be negotiated with classroom teachers over the coming days. I will bring the mobile library to the classroom and organise student borrowing. I will plan to have a "story-time" with the class during this time, so we will need to allocate approximately 30 minutes per session for K-2 classes.

Religious Education Project Compassion

Please support Caritas Australia’s annual Lenten fundraiser helping to end poverty and promote justice. In the School Office, Library and every OLOR learning space, a Project Compassion box is on the prayer table. We encourage each child to bring a monetary donation if possible. This donation can make a real difference. Together we can help the poorest of the poor live a life of dignity. We can help those most in need to become self-sufficient so they do not need to rely on charity. Please bring to school all monetary donations for Project Compassion before Thursday 11

th April. For more information on how

we can help the disadvantaged during Lent, please go to http://www.caritas.org.au/projectcompassion

Dear Parents,

“Thank you” – two simple words with the power to change our entire outlook on life. Here are some great reasons why this

phrase of gratitude belongs in the forefront of our daily interactions.

* Saying thank you keeps us humble:

“Ingratitude produces pride while gratitude produces humility.” – Orrin Woodward

* Saying thank you makes us feel more optimistic:

“It is impossible to be negative while we are giving thanks.” – Donald Curtis

* Saying thank you encourages compassion, kindness and love:

“A thankful heart is not only the greatest virtue, but the parent of all other virtues.” – Cicero

* Saying thank you shows selflessness:

“Make it a habit to tell people thank you. To express your appreciation, sincerely and without the expectation of any-

thing in return.” – Ralph Marston

* Saying thank you is good for the spirit:

“Saying ‘thank you’ is more than good manners. It is good spirituality.” – Alfred Painter

* Saying thank you is good for the heart:

“Gratitude is the memory of the heart.” – Jean Baptiste Massieu

* Saying thank you can be a kind of prayer:

“If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is thank you, it will be enough.” – Meister Eckhart. Unlike many

phrases in the English language, “thank you” never diminishes in meaning with repetition. When we use it to guide our con-

versations and structure our relationships, it can be amazing how often we start to hear “thank you” in return.

CROSS COUNTRY Last Wednesday on the 13th of March year 2s all the way through to year 6 participated in our an-nual school cross country day. Both parents, teachers and students enjoyed watching the students complete the course with smiles and joy on their faces. We had some very successful runners who placed in the top six and will compete again at Eastern Creek Motorsports park later on in the term.

Our school’s colour captains enjoyed helping out throughout the day and encouraging the other students by cheering them on. Each pair of colour captains were assigned the job of decorating two panels of the fence as best as they could, to give their house extra points. This meant arriving at school earlier than usual and getting the other year sixes involved as much as they could. The team that won the most creative and decorative fence was GOLD with their brightly coloured streamers, balloons, posters and dif-ferent items of supportive clothing. Overall the winning house of the school cross country for 2019 was also Gold House. Congratulations to Gold House captains Logan Ludvik and Gabriella McBrien for guiding their house to a terrific win.

OLOR’s students had a great day, but it was even better when some of the teachers decided to join in on the race too. It was funny to watch some of the teachers run the three - four lap course - they soon enough figured out that it wasn’t so easy after all. Both teachers and students came in dif-ferent coloured T-shirts to show their support to their colour houses.

We are proud of all of the students who ran the race, some even beat the time and place that they had come in previous years. We are extremely proud of some year two’s who showed their interest and did their best at doing the three lap course, even some seven year olds decided to tag along! Congratulations Everyone!
