The phrase appears only in the Gospel of John, on the lips of John the Baptist, who utters it twice. In today’s Gospel reading, John pro- claims Jesus as the Lamb of God, and two of John’s own disciples then follow Christ. A little bit later An- drew, who heard John and then followed Jesus, brings his brother Simon to be re-named Cephas, or Pe- ter. A careful look at these Bible verses shows us the mission of everyone baptized into the Body of Christ: we must always proclaim our faith in Christ, so that others will follow Him. We may not know how the will of God might work through those we bring to Christ; that is not the point. The point is that our ongoing mission as a church is to bring others to Christ, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

The St. Vincent de Paul Society would like to thank all of the parishioners who so generously supported our Christmas giv-ing tree program helping our needy children with much need-ed new clothing. You helped to make Christmas a little brighter for many families. Also thank you for the many monetary donations that helped us provide gifts for our home-less and home-bound friends. Your generosity enables us to provide meal cards for the homeless as well as sleeping bags, blankets, toiletry items, rain gear and warm coats. Our young families benefit with diapers and much needed food sta-ples. From all of your friends at St. Vincent de Paul we pray that God will bless you in 2018.

Cursillos in Christianity (in Spanish: Cursillos de Cristiandad, short course of Christianity) is an ap-ostolic movement of the Roman Catholic Church. It was founded in Majorca, Spain by a group of laymen in 1944, while they were refining a tech-nique to train Christian pilgrimage leaders. Cursillo is the original three-day movement, and has since been licensed for use by several main-line Christian denominations, some of which have retained the trademarked "Cursillo" name, while others have modified its talks/methods and given it a different name. The Cursillo focuses on showing Christian lay peo-ple how to become effective Christian leaders over the course of a three-day weekend. The weekend includes fifteen talks, some given by priests and some by lay people. These talks are called "rollos". The major emphasis of the weekend is to ask par-ticipants to take what they have learned back into the world, on what is known as the "fourth day." The method stresses personal spiritual develop-ment. For more information please contact: Cursillo—English Tom Poeschl 650-281-1262 tp,[email protected] Cursillo– Spanish Daniel Ramirez 408-375-7221

CHAINS OF GRACE The chains of grace are so powerful, and yet so sweet, that though they attract our heart, they do not shackle our freedoms CADENAS DE GRACIA Las cadenas de gracia son fuertes y tan dulces, que aunque atraen nuestro corazón, ellas no encadenan nuestras libertades.

—Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
