PASTOR’S CORNER
POPE FRANCIS’ INTENTIONS FOR
July 2017
Lapsed Christians
That our brothers and sisters who have strayed from the faith,
through our prayer and witness to the Gospel, may rediscover
the merciful closeness of the Lord and the beauty of the
Christian life.
Welcome one and all to our celebration of Holy Mass at Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic
Church. We are delighted that you joined us to celebrate the Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary
Time. Hope you all had a wonderful 4th of July celebration.
“Come to Me all you who are overburdened and I will give you rest!” Jesus opens wide His
arms to the poor, the meek and the lowly and draws them to Himself. He has come not to
open the door for the privileged and the learned. No, he has come to open the door for the
overburdened, the broken-hearted, the deprived and all those who suffer. In Him they will
find consolation and rest, for as He says, His yoke is easy and His burden light, not like the
heavy yoke of the religious law imposed on the people by the Scribes and Pharisees.
Jesus gives us the reason for this revelation when He says, “for I am gentle and humble of
heart.” This is His true nature and it is precisely these qualities He is looking for in others. It
is not a question of how much money we have in the bank or how big a house or how many
cars we have. It is a question of attitude. Gentleness and humility are the qualities which Jesus
places above all others. These are the attitudes Jesus looks for in us.
Jesus shows us the way to heaven. It is only in following the example of Christ Himself that
we will arrive there safely. It is the way of gentleness, the way of humility, the way of service,
the way of sacrifice, the way of love. He has gone that way before us and all we need is the
desire to follow Him.
May each of us learn from Jesus to be “gentle and humble of heart”.
