In Genesis today, Abraham and Sarah practice hospitality
to their visitors, who turn out to be God dropping in.
During the summer months, God practices hospitality
in return, inviting us into a season of celebration.
Keeping Sunday holy is a good habit to cultivate in
these days when our spirits are especially receptive to
God's deep desire for us to know divine love.
Dios practica hospitalidad a cambio, invitándonos a

Remember the gospel story in which Jesus tells his apostles that they will become "fishers of men"? That same invitation and challenge is given
to us today. The way we live and share our faith is what makes us "fishers"...............................................................................................................
This may well be what you already do by the way you live, work, even play. The way you live within your family and your neighborhood. You may
have a story of faith to share, or a question about your faith that you want to ask. We are fishers, not just keepers of the aquarium - finding ways
to share our faith and to invite others to grow in their faith is what "fishing" is about..................................................................................................
Your life experience and your faith journey have helped you grow in wisdom - and you are finding that most everything has a meaning and a grace.

July 23: THE NEW TESTAMENT: WHEN WAS IT WRITTEN AND WHY?
July 30: STUDYING SCRIPTURE: THE CATHOLIC APPROACH
Most of us have felt the pressure of time and tasks and had to make a
choice between service to others and quiet time to pray and listen. Introduced
by the reading from Genesis in which Abraham asks his wife Sarah to help
quickly prepare a meal for the guests, today's Gospel story of Martha and
Mary is not at all a condemnation of service and hospitality. It is a reminder
to the sisters and to us that we need to keep things in balance.................
"Entertaining Angels" is not only a song by the Newsboys, it was, earlier,
the name of a movie about Dorothy Day, a woman whose life and conversion
remind us that God always has a plan for our lives. Dorothy Day was an
American convert to Catholicism, journalist and social activist. Together
with Peter Maurin she co-founded the Catholic Worker, a movement that
combined so beautifully the balance of service and prayer, action and
contemplation. It is along the same lines as the Center for Action and
Contemplation, founded by Father Richard Rohr in Albuquerque. Both the
Catholic Worker and the "CAC" are alive and well today, responding to the
very human experience we hear about the in the Gospel today: our lives
need balance - and we become aware that the persons in our lives reveal
to us the different faces and facets of the Holy, of God. A theme of these
readings is also "hospitality" - Abraham, Martha and Mary all understand
what it means to be welcoming, hospitable and attentive to others...........
Although each of us might respond to the challenge a little differently, there
is a common thread of "vocation" - the call to be attentive and responsive
to the Word of God. Several times in the Scriptures we hear Jesus invite his
disciples to come aside and pray with him. We also pray in Psalm 46:10
"Be still and know that I am God." For a few minutes of quiet "guided"
meditation, go to your computer, "google search" "Be still and know that
I am God," then choose some of the available songs, prayers, or images that
touch your heart. Let one or another lead you into prayer, spend the time
surrounded by Christian music as you turn your heart and life over to God
once again..................................................................................................................
Time is, indeed, the treasure that is sacred and precious. Time and attentiveness
given to God are never a waste. God speaks to us often, and sometimes in
unexpected places and ways. We simply need to be ready and open to listen.
… "Let us pray…”.......................................................................................................
Dorothy Day
Simplemente necesitamos
estar listos y abiertos para escuchar. … "Oremos….”.........................................................
