With her thunder candle she wards off the ravenous pack and protects the peasants from all harm. According to an old tradition, candles are blessed in Catholic Churches on February 2, the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord in the Temple. Many people keep the blessed candles (Gromnica) in their homes and light them during storms or other danger. In Poland, dying persons are given the Gromnica to light their way to eternity.

A Few Words From Fr Dariusz This weekend we celebrate the 4th Sunday of the ordinary time and we are only two weeks away from Windfall Superbowl event I hope you have purchased your tickets already If you did not I encourage you to do so It is one of the major fundraisers for our parish There are always two big winners in this ldquogamerdquo The winner of Windfall and the parish Once again thank you for supporting the parish with your contributions

The First Reading tells us of the call and commissioning of the prophet Jeremiah Jeremiah never wanted to be a prophet and was overwhelmed by the sheer burden of it He stands out as a lonely figure whose mission seemed to had failed until Jesus came

In the dialogue between God and the prophet Jeremiah we hear a perfect example of Divine Love

Some of the Words that the Heavenly Father speaks are very touching God says Before I formed you in the womb I knew you Before you were born I consecrated you In His infinite knowledge God knew Jeremiah before He formed him in the womb of his mother There is no doubt that before each and every one of us were formed in the womb of our mothers the Lord God also knew us We are not like Jeremiah called to be prophets however by the grace of God through our Baptism we also have been set aside for a Divine service Our Divine calling as revealed to us through Jesus Christ is to love the Lord God to obey His commandments to share the good news in all four corners of the world to serve one another and to shine in love towards others for the glory of God St Paul has been speaking of gifts and charismas In todayrsquos second reading he stresses the supreme importance of love The type of love that St Paul speaks about is called agape in Greek This is the kind of love that flows to us from God through Jesus Christ It is creative and unmotivated It seeks nothing It is not attracted by goodness because God loves us as sinners in Jesus As such we must open ourselves to the Divine love of God to allow it to be active in us Then and only then will our love towards others always be pure and unmotivated

One of the reasons that love is so important is because it is eternal It will always be with us The love that we show towards God and our brothers and sisters in Christ will be with us for eternity The manner in which we love one another today in this world and in Heaven we will be required to continue to manifest this love

In the Second Reading St Paul once again is addressing the Corinthians about different spiritual gifts among the members of the church It is believed that the faithful were debating as to which gift of God was the greatest St Paul states that the best gift of God is the gift of love

The Gospel is a continuation of last Sundayrsquos reading We see the reaction to the homily Jesus gave in the synagogue at Nazareth The people cannot believe that the words of Isaiah could apply to him the humble son of Joseph On hearing that the benefits they have rejected will be offered to the Gentiles the people rise up in fury and attempt to do away with Jesus This foreshadows the ultimate fate of Jesus but His hour has not yet come

May God bless you all Fr Dariusz

STEWARDSHIP THOUGHTS

Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time (January 2930 2022) The shared topic in todayrsquos Scripture readings is one of prophets and prophecy From his consecration in the womb the prophet Jeremiah is summoned to prophecy to the nations In St Lukersquos Gospel Jesus professes that the messianic prophecy from Isaiah is completed in Him enraged His hometown community rejects His message St Paul confirms to the Corinthian community (see long version) that prophecy given as a gift is ineffective unless done with love Are we as Christian stewards listening to Jesus as prophet through His teachings of Truth Through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit do we have the courage to defend with love the Churchrsquos stance against abortion euthanasia same-sex unions and other moral challenges presented by todayrsquos secular culture Reference the Catechism of the Catholic Church for insight into Catholic teaching

Some parishioners have been asking about Holy Water Fonts for the home They are available from THE AUTOM RELIGIOUS GOODS COMPANY You may call them at 1-800-521-2914 and ask them to send you a catalog (or look at the catalogue in the office) They have over twenty-five available ranging in price from $600to $1500 Deacon Bill

THANK YOU

A heartfelt thank you to Fr Dariusz for the beautiful Resurrection Mass for my sister Loretta Berent Thank you to Deacon Bill for his special presentation of the Rosary at the Funeral Parlor and the prayers at Our Lady of Hope Cemetery Loretta spent many hours in church listening to Fr Dariusz Deacon Bill and the choir sitting content in prayer and devotion It is comforting to know that at the end of her journey on earth those familiar people were there with her still Thank you also for the delicious luncheon afterwards where Lorettarsquos family and friends shared a meal and many memories Thank you from the entire family of Loretta Mary Berent to the entire family of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church

THANK YOU
