From the Pastor’s Desk Dear Parishioners Ordinarily, March 19 is the Solemnity of Saint Joseph. However, since the Lord’s Day takes precedence, this year the Solemnity is transferred to tomorrow, March 20. The Church assigns to the guardian of the Redeemer, the husband of the Blessed Virgin, and Patron of the Universal Church its highest liturgical rank. Thus, St. Joseph’s Day is a break in our Lenten observance. The best way to honor St. Joseph is by attending Mass. In addition to the regular morning Masses, a Solemn Liturgy will be offered at Our Lady of Sorrows Church at 7:00 p.m. This will be followed by the traditional blessing of St. Joseph’s Table in the church hall. It is always an enjoyable and festive celebration—and the pastries and other sweets after Mass are great, thanks to Michael Amantia and our Rosarians! At week’s end, March 25, the Solemnity of the Lord’s Annunciation, we have the honor of welcoming His Excellency, Bishop O’Connell who will administer the Sacrament of Confirmation. What a wonderful feast to celebrate this Sacrament. As the Holy Spirit overshadowed the Blessed Virgin as she offered her “Fiat,” her “Yes” to the Lord, let us pray that through gifts of the Holy Spirit, the lives of our newly confirmed may be a generous “Yes” to God! With affection Msgr. Gervasio
Stewardship Report Weekly Collection: March 12 $17,205 Lenten Work of Mercy (to date) $1,836
We Celebrate and Honor St. Joseph
Join us for a festive celebration of the Solemnity of St. Joseph on Monday, March 20. An additional Mass will be celebrated at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows followed by the traditional blessing of the “Saint Joseph Table.” If you have given up “sweets” for Lent, you are hereby “dispensed” since St. Joseph’s feast is a joyful break in our Lenten observance!
Please Note
If you plan to write a check for your donation to the Lenten Work of Mercy (for Mount Carmel Guild), please make your check payable to OLS-SA, and put "Lenten Work of Mercy" on the notation line. The parish will total the donations and send Mount Carmel Guild one check for all monies collected.

Meditations on St. Joseph: Joseph—A man who protects his family
Joseph models for men, a protective instinct. Our children, like Jesus was, are exposed to many dangers. Our American scene does not feature many physical dangers but moral dangers surely abound. Fathers, what are your children watching on TV? What are their Internet habits? Who are their friends? What do your children think about important moral issues? Are you preparing them to face the moral challenges and temptations of life? Are you teaching them the faith along with your wife? Are you a passive father, not very involved in the raising of your children? A man protects his children from harm, physical, moral, and spiritual. Saint Joseph models this for every father! A Man Whose Vocation Is More Important Than His Career The Gospel of Matthew relates that St. Joseph is warned by an angel in a dream: Get up, take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him (2:13). Joseph may well have had much to lose in this flight. He had a business. Fleeing to a distant land might mean the loss of his business. But Joseph was a father and husband before he was a businessman. His child was threatened and his first obligation was to Jesus and Mary. Vocation outweighed career. Joseph displays a different priority. Joseph points the way for parents: vocation has priority over career. For fathers especially, Joseph shows that a man is a husband and father before he is a businessman. Edited from Msgr. Charles Pope’s Blog, St. Joseph: Model Husband and Father, on Community in Mission.
Changing Your Address or Phone? We've got your number . . . but is it current or obsolete? Whether you're moving from your parents' home to your own apartment or from a condo into an assisted care facility—or just dumping your landline for a cellular phone—please remember to call the Parish Office to report your complete name, address and phone number.
Is Your Nest Empty?
Parents, remember when you registered here? Maybe your children went to our parish school before attending high school and college. Now they're out on their own, and you have an empty nest—but we still have them on your record. If they're still living in this area, please remind them to visit the parish office (or visit the parish Website) to register on their own. This can facilitate their obtaining the documentation needed should a friend ask them to stand as a godparent or confirmation sponsor.

Summer Religious Education
The Summer Program is offered to our parishioners as an alternative to the traditional once-a-week class format that is held from September through May. This year, the Summer Program will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows School on weekdays from June 22 through July 6, except for July 4 (Independence Day), from 9 a.m. until noon. The Summer Program seeks to accommodate the busy schedules of our families by eliminating the weekly “shuttling” of children to the parish campus from September through May. Class time is the same as the regular program but condensed into a two-week period. This “intensive” plan provides for a more focused approach and retention of the subject matter. Students will stay “connected” to the parish throughout the year through weekly Mass and by attending 3 catechetical sessions during the Advent, Lent, & Easter Seasons. Parental involvement is expected. It is open to students of Grades 3 -6. For information & registration forms, please call Mrs. Francis at 587-4372.

The Annual Catholic Appeal in Action Evangelization - Pastoral Care
Rooted in the Gospel invitation to share in the healing mission of Jesus Christ, we advance the compassionate and competent spiritual, pastoral and sacramental care of God's suffering people by resourcing the clergy, pastoral ministers, healthcare professionals and caregivers who serve them. Those who offer pastoral care communicate God's love and compassion 'person-to-person' by offering spiritual and sacramental support, including the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick offered by a priest. We connect with healthcare institutions, medical professionals, chaplains and clergy by providing extensive consultation and resources for the holistic health and well-being of Catholic patients. Your gift helps you to live and spread the Gospel.

Why not stop for even a brief moment to rejoice in the Lord’s Presence?

Annual Blue Mass Join the Diocese of Trenton at our 18th annual diocesan Mass in Celebration of Law Enforcement, celebrating the dedication of the men and women who, by serving in various agencies of law enforcement, sacrifice a great deal to provide for the safety of our communities. Date: Tuesday, April 18 Time: 10:30 a.m. Location: Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption 151 N. Warren & Perry Street, Trenton For information, visit www.bluemass.org.
Mark Your Calendar The Sisters of Saint Joseph Associates in Mission of Lawrenceville invite you to a development day entitled Leadership for Jesus’ Mission – An Invitation to Grow on Saturday, April 1. There will be two sessions—one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Come to one or both sessions in the Faith Development Center at the Church of Saint Ann (1253 Lawrenceville Road, Lawrenceville).
Morning Session (9 AM – Noon): an informative and interactive workshop featuring the Enneagram. Self-knowledge is a core competency of the spiritual life. The Enneagram has ancient tools that can help us discern the motivations behind our behaviors, have greater compassion for ourselves and feel more connected to others. Like Myers-Briggs, it is a personality sorter that utilizes questions to determine your type. The self-aware leader can become a selfless leader.
Afternoon Session (1 – 4 PM ): The Art of Listening There are many facets to communicating in deep and meaningful ways. One of the most important and basic listening skills is knowing how and why we act and react in conversation. In this session we will begin to use our self- knowledge skills to listen in a new way. Who we are can be a gift in our relationships when we practice listening as a spiritual art and practice.
If you are coming for both sessions, please bring a brown bag lunch. For planning purposes, RSVP to Susan Commini ([email protected] or 647-6275) by March 25. A free will offering will help to cover expenses.
All are welcome!

Home Health Nursing Program Our Lenten Work of Mercy
While there are people in need all over the world, we sometimes forget those in our own community who need help. Recognizing this, Monsignor Gervasio and the parish’s Social Justice Committee have brought Our Lenten Work of Mercy closer to home this year. Mount Carmel Guild, a diocesan Social Service agency, serves Mercer County residents through its Emergency Assistance and Home Health Nursing programs. Almost a century old, Mount Carmel Guild has been “seeing Christ in others” since its founding in 1920 by Msgr Thomas J Walsh.
Since Our Lady of Sorrows – St. Anthony Parish donates food year-round to the Guild’s Emergency Assistance program, our Lenten Work of Mercy will focus on Home Health Nursing. This is a service that is unique to “the Guild.”
There’s probably nothing more dignified than the ability to remain in your home as you age—to age gracefully; to keep your independence, your history, your world. But as medical needs increase this isn’t always possible.
Home Health Nursing program’s primary goal is to provide long-term home-based nursing care to the most medically needy and economically disadvantaged senior citizens of Mercer County—those whose Medicare insurance has been exhausted and who have no alternative care. Patients live with geriatric diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, lung and heart disease, stroke, cancer, neuromuscular
disorders, and arthritis. Most are ambulatory with canes or walkers; some use wheelchairs. The program staff helps them to stay in the comfortable surroundings of their own homes, preventing premature placement in institutions. The nurses also: Pre-fill insulin syringes Pre-pour medications Monitor vital signs and blood sugars Conduct pacemaker checks Give injections Provide wound care Monitor Coumadin levels
Staff nurses provide more to their patients than just skilled medical care. They provide comfort and companionship to those who are lonely and make referrals to other services such as Meals on Wheels, transportation to and from medical appointments, and full time home health assistance, if needed. They also provide emergency food packages from the Guild’s Emergency Assistance program for anyone who is short of food and on a fixed income.
The nursing staff makes hundreds of home visits each year, providing more than 2,000 hours of assistance. Most importantly, the Guild’s Home Health Nursing Staff serves older patients with the kindness and compassion that everyone deserves.
Give up anything you want for Lent—candy, smoking, movies, dining out—then each week, calculate how much money you saved and bring it to church to put in one of the Lenten Work of Mercy cans at the exits. And pray for the program staff and those they serve.
