The Marian Fathers of the Immaculate Conception
We as members of the Roman Catholic Church have laws, from which we grow toward understanding what is or is not a sin. Sin is breaking God’s law, and the Church helps us to understand this concept increasingly better, so that in better avoiding sin, we are able to grow in holiness. Again, we grow in this understanding. Such growth is central to our soul’s journey through life. Abortion is a sin, and it is a sin because it directly attacks the deeply held belief that life is sacred, and is such from conception. This is both a law revealed by God, but I would like to say, is also an intuition, a mystical insight that each of us carries from that eternal place within ourselves. In those special moments when our minds can be quiet and our hearts are elevated to God in prayer, we simply KNOW. We feel it, and if we give ourselves permis-sion to think about it, carrying it from our hearts to our minds as it were, we can put it into words and say with conviction that abortion is just outright wrong. Here, revealed law and internal understanding merge. On this point, of why abortion is wrong, a unity of mind and soul is reached. This is a good example of how our souls grow. Now, the same is true for our understanding of war. The Church does have a just war concept, a centuries old understanding that nations have the right of self defense. Self de-fense implies that I am defending life by defending my life, or that of my country. Here, I am not choosing war; I am not choosing to disregard the life of others. I am choosing to de-fend my life and that of my fellow citizens. The Church honors such prioritizing. Even so, in that mystical, eternal place within our hearts of so many perfected souls throughout the cen-turies, deeper understandings are intuited and then with courage placed into words. And what is the result of such a soul movement? A different way of prioritizing is laid out, a deeper way I would say, where peace is regarded as the highest value. Once this deeper un-derstanding is integrated, the very idea of war becomes repugnant. Courage now is found in being a spiritual warrior, where one fights, so to speak, with the Gospel words of Mercy, Peace, and Love. And in speaking these words, one is to fight against such concepts, and from time to time to kill the prophets who proclaim them. How many Golgotha’s has the world witnessed over the centuries!

Our blood is the life line of our families, community and that of the world. To this day, research done by man has not been able to manufacture it. Blood is purely and simply a human resource, given by one human being for another person in need. Each day of every year blood centers are faced with the challenge of collecting enough blood to meet the region’s blood supply demands. It’s a difficult task on an average day, but even more during the summer and holiday seasons. Accidents, illness and injuries know no age, race, sex, religion or social status. They certainly do not recognize the lazy hazy days of summer or activities at holiday time. The lack of blood during theses times may result in insufficient blood for patient care in our community. You can help prevent the shortage of blood by donating a pint of your blood on Saturday, July 15th between 8:30 AM and 2:00 PM here at Our Lady of Peace in the School Gym. Last year we collected only 30 pints of blood. Our goal last year was 50 pints. We fell short but I know we can make a goal of 50 pints if everyone who is eligible shows up this year. Any healthy adult age 17 or older who weighs at least 110 lbs. can donate their blood. It will take you approximately 1 hour. Remember to bring a photo ID with you that day and eat something. The Pro-Life Action League invites you to join the upcoming “Face the Truth” Tour, an annual pro-life public education initiative that reaches tens of thousands of people with the reality of abortion. From July 7-15, pro-life volunteers will hold signs at major intersections across Chicagoland, depicting the beauty of life in the womb as well as the horrible injustice done to the unborn victims of abortion.

Holy Trinity Catholic Parish, Westmont, seeks full-time Administrative Assistant for the Religious Educa-tion office. This ministry position serves the administrative support needs of the Religious Education office in the areas of reception, hospitality, Sacrament record keeping, review of family work, clerical, and banking. Candidate must have flexible schedule to accommodate ministry activities and events. Hours are generally Monday-Friday, but vary based on the Religious Education evening and weekend schedule; not to exceed 37.5 hours per week. Candidate must display effective communication skills, strong organizational and clerical skills with attention to detail. The individual must perform duties in a professional and confidential manner, be a self-starter, and be able to work independently as well as cooperatively with others. Candidate must be proficient in Mi-crosoft Office Suite and exhibit good typing skills. Two years experience required; some college coursework preferred. Candidate must have an understanding of and appreciation for the Catholic faith, and a desire to serve in its mission. This is a full-time, non-exempt, benefitted position. Our Parish is a wonderful setting to celebrate your Sacrament of Marriage. Couples must make arrangements at least 1 year before your proposed wedding date to allow for ample time for Marriage Prep.

BAPTISM:
We ask that the parents be registered members of the parish. First time parents must attend one hour (plus) of Pre-Baptismal instruction held on 2nd or 3rd Tuesdays of February, April, June, August, October and December at 7:30

EUCHARISTIC HOME AND HOSPITAL VISITATION MINISTRY:
