Vacherie Mission #6, 2013 is now a part of Our Lady of Peace history. This was our largest group ever, approximately 90 youth and 35 full time chaperones, in addition to our kitchen crew which served one hot lunch, seven breakfast meals and six dinner meals, all donated by local groups and individuals. We made improvements at 22 worksites throughout the community dispatching 13 work crews. We had two evan- gelization teams in the community every day from Monday through Friday. We had 26 shower houses for a total of 35 shower facili- ties receiving youth and adults from Sunday through Friday. With us during the week were five seminarians, three of whom were here for the entire week: Ryan Halford, Carlos Lucito and Kolbe Fletcher, as well as Michael Sanders and Caleb Gilcrease. We were assisted during the week by several priests who came to give a talk or to hear confession. These in- cluded: Fr. Michael Alello, St. Philomena in Labadieville; Fr. Brent Maher, the east bank cluster; Fr. Michael Schatzle, St. George; Fr. Than Vu and Fr. Peter Dang, St. Aloysius and Fr. Michael Miceli. Bishop Robert Muench came one night to talk to the youth, share dinner with them, and then heard confession. In the evenings, the youth would have a time of praise and worship, some gave their testimonies and then we heard guest speakers talk on social justice issues. On Sunday evening we heard Luis Sosa who was re- cently set free after spending 40 years at Angola. He told the youth that he wished he would have been a part of something like the Vacherie mission when we was young- er. On Monday we were graced with the presence of Mrs. Merlyna Adams Valentine, an elementary school principal who lost all four of her limbs due to complications following a kidney stone. Several local residents formed a panel to discuss race issues on Tuesday. On Wednesday we heard Fr. Michael Alello talk to us about Jesus’ friends Martha and Mary and how we are all called to be like both of them. On Friday evening Jay Jackson of Baton Rouge came to tell us about his close friends, all of whom are now or have been Angola inmates. We had a short time of adoration in the church on Sun- day evening and a more intense time of adoration including a personal blessing on Thursday.

JOB WELL DONE, AMEN!

We had two evan-gelization teams in the community every day from Monday through Friday. Deadline To Be Part of Dialogue On Race

This coming Wed., July 31 is the deadline to sign up to be a part of the upcoming dialogue on race. Our Lady of Peace is offering an opportunity for people of our area of diverse cultures to meet and speak honestly and openly about race. Our sessions will be conversation--not debates

where the goal of each side is to prove the other wrong. The Dialogue series will be a structured two-hour weekly se-ries limited to 15 participants per group. The sessions are led by trained facilitators from Dialogue on Race. Participants prepare for the discussions by reading short articles before each session. All sessions begin and end on time.

Participants must agree to attend at least five of the six meetings. The sessions here will be held on six succes-sive Wednesdays: August 7, 14, 21, 28, September 4 and 11. There is no cost for participating, only a commitment to come and be open and honest in conversation. Participation will be on a first-come basis. We will cap participation in this series at the first 30 who register. Call the church office if you would like to participate.

Friday, August 9, is the deadline for Faith Forma-tion Registration. Our sessions begin in mid-September. This year you have several options for registration. Option 1: Go to the following page on the parish web-site, www.olopchurch.org/parish-life/education where you can register electronically. Complete the electronic form and submit, then go to the link for Online Giving provided and pay your registration fees with your VISA, Discover or Mastercard. This service is secure and safe to use. Option 2: Complete the electronic form as indicated above and mail us your check to cover your fees. Option 3: Go to the website page indicated above and click on the link for the registration packet. Print the pdf version of the registration form provided, complete the form and mail it with your payment, or drop off at the office or in the regular Sunday collection. Option 4: Call us and we will mail you a packet. Please note that you will only receive a packet in the mail if you request one. We need to order our text books and supplies. Please register soon!

Faith Formation Registration Deadline

Pay CDA Dues Catholic Daughters Court Notre Dame de la Paix is now accepting membership dues of $25. Dues can be mailed to Clara Becnel, 23017 Oak St., Vacherie, LA 70090 or drop in the weekly collection. Pre-printed collection envelopes can be found in the back of the church or the chapel foyer.

Altar Server Sign-Up Any child entering fourth grade or older interested in becoming an altar server should contact Mrs. Becky Gra-vois, 265-2272. Training begins in September.

Baptized This Month Baptized on Sun., July 21 was: Anna Katherine Morvant, daughter of Kenny and Kerri Falgoust Morvant, born June 14, 2013.

Last Friday I had the blessed opportunity to be in the presence of the Vacherie Mission Group. A group of teen-agers comes to South Vacherie annually to perform chores for others who are in need. It was such a blessing to see so many volunteers, both young and old. This type of service says a lot about the community. Families open their homes to the groups and treat them with so much hospitality. May God bless the supporters and the community for your love and unselfish spirit. A special blessing is extended to Miss Pam Folse and her team for the six years of dedication to the call of God. May He strengthen you all daily and may the visions he places in your hearts and spirits continue in the spirit of ex-cellence. Keep allowing God to lead and guide you. To see that many young people committed to a week of solidarity with the Savior was breathtaking. Stay blessed. (s) Mrs. Gail Batiste Gros

Parishioner Writes I Saw God Today Parishioner Kathy Tregre wrote this after a mission evangelization team vis-ited with her and her husband, Kevin: “I saw God today, in my very own living room! I saw God! He was tall, he was short, he had dark and light hair, both curly and straight. His eyes, they were beautiful--blue, brown, hazel and green. He was young and not so young. Yes, I saw God today! “All of these people who are blessing our community in so very many ways are God’s eyes, His ears, His voice, His hands and His heart. And they get it! Each and every one of them fully realize that this is exactly what God would want everyone to do. “If we all shared our gifts with one another and helped to carry each other’s cross, we would truly experience heaven on earth. “Yes, I saw God today! And you have seen Him, too! But, most importantly, we watched God’s word come to life: ‘Love one another as I have loved you.’ On behalf of Our Lady of Peace Church community, allow me to say a heart-felt ‘thank you’ to all of our mission brothers and sisters and may God continue to bless you, as He continues to bless us through you.”

Thanks to all mission donors, volunteers and all who supported Vacherie Mission #6, 2013 in any way. Through your generosity you have

given the youth and the adults a priceless opportunity they can’t get anywhere else.Vacherie Mission 2014: July 12-19
