October 11, 2015 • Twenty-Eighth Sunday In Ordinary Time 3
A Note From The Pastor… This Sunday, October 11th, there will be a Concert
featuring world-class Catholic Composer and Pianist
Eric Genuis, and Ensemble at 4:30PM in the Church. The
Concert is Free, and Open to the Public.
Next Sunday, October 18th, is World Mission Sunday.
We will have a Second Collec#on at all of the Masses. World
Mission Sunday, organized by the Propaga#on of the Faith,
is a day set aside for Catholics worldwide to recommit
themselves to the Church’s missionary ac#vity through
prayer and sacrifice. Please consider suppor#ng the
Church’s missionary outreach as you are able through prayer
and material support.
We are in need of new altar linens (altar cloths, corporals, and a funeral pall). Please
consider making a dona#on for this expense. You may put your dona#on in an
envelope labeled ‘Altar Linens’. Thanks!
In this week’s bulle#n, there is a Le"er from Archbishop Cupich. He met with all
priests on Tuesday, September 29th, to begin a long process of how to move forward in
the Archdiocese of Chicago given current and forthcoming challenges, specifically:
pastor availability, mission vitality, opera#ng viability, and capital needs. Please refer to
his le"er for more details.
In this week’s Gospel, a man who seemingly has it all, approaches Jesus and asks
Him: “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” That’s the ques#on, how
to inherit eternal life! Our first reading and Jesus’ words tell us that seeking material
wealth or possessions is not the answer.
Being rich is not sinful in itself. But having wealth can get in the way of the true
meaning of life: Following the Lord Jesus. We can begin to trust in ourselves rather
than relying on God. We can easily be more concerned with what we want rather
than what God wants of us. The solu#on is to not have any “a"achments” in life
save one: Jesus Christ.
The Synod on the Family has begun in Rome. Let us pray for the Synod Fathers
and the Pope as they discuss how to be"er minister to families in the world, and let
us pray that all of us take seriously what we must do to inherit eternal life.
Blessings,
Fr. Paul
