Courageously Living the Gospel

April is a month of promise and hope. Let our prayer for April be an active prayer to spread love daily by sharing smiles. To a friend, family member, neighbor or stranger, please smile and pray in your heart "Jesus, bless us and keep us this day to do your will. Amen" No matter who we are, what we have, or what time of day or night, remember that all of us serve each other and the Lord by our constant prayer. Amen.

Intro: Today marks the conclusion to the Octave of Easter. It is the eighth day, the day of new creation. This is the day on which Christ appeared to the fearful and disheartened disciples with a word of “Peace” Today is also known as Divine Mercy Sunday, established by Pope John Paul II to recognize the abundant mercy of God offered to us through Christ. First Reading: Act 2:42-47 The Act of the Apostles illustrates the spread of the Gospel and describes how people of the early Church lived in the light of the Resurrection. They lived a common life, gathered for prayer, and, led by the apostles’ instructions, cared for those in need. The community of which we hear in the Acts of the Apostles during Easter serves as the example of how we are to live. Second Reading: 1 Pet 1: 3-9 The Reading begins the semicontinuous reading the first letter of St Peter. This letter was written to a Christian community young in faith. It is filled with instruction and direction for living according to “the Way” – one of the earliest terms to be used to reference Christianity. Gospel: Jn 20: 19-31 The Gospel today is always proclaimed on the Second Sunday of Easter. It tells the story of two appearances of Christ to the disciples on the first day of the week. The account opens with Christ coming to them on the evening after his Resurrection. It continues with the record of the second appearance, a week later – that is, eight days after his Resurrection.

MASSES FOR THE WEEK

Jesus meets the need of each disciple. To the fearful in the upper room, He speaks words of peace. To doubting Thomas, He provides the tangible proof of His resurrection. What do I need to become His disciple? What do I have to share that might meet someone else's need?

Dear Faithful of God,

Jesus Christ is risen today! Halleluiah!

Easter is when we celebrate LIFE with God and our identity as Christians. Because of Christs’ resurrection, we have risen also into life by His grace and mercy. It has come to our understanding that Christ has done everything for our salvation. He suffered and died and gave us life and we will continue to share this life with him. We have embraced this beautiful reality in our Christian faith.

As faithful people of God, we carry on the Good News of the risen Lord and we are urged to proclaim this great and powerful news to the world. The great experience of Easter must linger in our hearts and minds, and through the help of the Holy Spirit we are empowered in the performance of our duties and responsibilities to our fellow pilgrims in this world of uncertainty. The Joy of Easter is a great gift to us in addition to the great gift of life that God has already given us. Truly, what God has given us in the wholeness of event and the fullness of time is always worth sharing.

Our journey during the past five weeks with the observance of Lent, plus the reality of COVID -19, would seem so hard in totality considering the harsh nature of this pandemic. However, bearing our Christian identity, we always look beyond the difficulties and continue to believe that God is always in charge. Thus, any obstacle and challenges in life are part of the great paschal mystery that we share with Christ.

The empty tomb is a powerful symbol of our Faith. The promise of the risen Lord came into perfection in the resurrection. The open grave has given as a new life with God, and what remain are burial cloths that would represent the temporal things in our human world.

The passage of Jesus in this world; ministry and his paschal mystery, is a strong testament that God has the power over this world and its principalities. The glorious resurrection is the prize at stake for us believers through concrete manifestation of our Faith, hope and love with each other in our present reality.

We are the Easter people, the people brought from darkness to light, enlightened through the forgiveness of sin in order to be a light of every shadow, and thus be partakers of a life eternal in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Jesus Christ is indeed the God of the living and not of the dead, “the God of our Father Abraham, God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.” Ex. 3:6

May we continue share the Easter Spirit with one another through the intercession of Our Lady of Grace.

HAPPY EASTER TO ALL!

FR. Erwin

Divine Mercy Prayer

Divine Mercy Prayer You expired, O Jesus,

but the source of life gushed forth for souls

and an ocean of mercy opened up for the whole world.

O Fount of Life, unfathomable Divine Mercy,

envelop the whole world and empty Yourself out upon us.

O Blood and Water, which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus

as a fount of mercy for us, I trust in You.

Amen.

Spiritual Communion Prayer

It has long been a Catholic understanding that when circumstances prevent one from receiving Holy Communion, it is possible to make an Act of Spiritual Communion, which is a source of grace. Spiritual Communion is an ardent desire to receive Jesus in the Most Holy Sacrament and lovingly embrace him at a time or in circumstances when one cannot receive Him in sacramental Communion. The most common reason for making an Act of Spiritual Communion is when a person cannot attend Mass.

Spiritual Communion Prayer

My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.

I love you above all things and I desire to receive you in my soul.

Since I cannot at this moment receive you sacramentally, Come at least spiritually into my heart.

I embrace you as if you were already there And unite myself wholly to you.

Never permit me to be separated from you.

Amen.

A Prayer for Healing

Almighty ever-living God, eternal health of believers, hear our prayers for your servants who are sick with coronavirus: grant them, we implore you, your merciful help, so that, with their health restored, they may give you thanks in the midst of your Church. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. – Adapted from the Roman Missal, Collect for Masses for the Sick, #45.”
