6 Home of Peace, Love, and Welcome. October 14, 2018

Beloved, here’s our fourth reflection on the FIRST DEFINITION of evangelization by Pope Paul VI, in Evangelii Nuntiandi: “Evangelizing is in fact the grace and vocation proper to the Church, her deepest

identity. She exists in order to evangelize, that is to say, in order to preach and teach, to be the channel of the gift of grace, to reconcile sinners with God, and to perpetuate Christ's sacrifice in the Mass, which is the memorial of His death and glorious resurrection” (Paragraph, 14). “TO PERPETUATE CHRIST'S SACRIFICE IN THE MASS” is central in the new evangelization

(cf. 1Cor 11:26). Sacrifice is indispensable in the worship of God; the Eucharist is the Supreme Sacrifice for the salvation of the world (cf. John 6:50-51). Unlike the pattern of worship amongst many Protestant or Evangelical groups, Eucharistic celebration is not a concert, symphony or entertainment worship. It is the Last Supper perpetuated as Christ did and commanded in the Bible (cf. Matt 26:26-30; Mark 14:22-26; Luke 22:14-20) – Christ’s passion, death and resurrection. Hence, it has always been the principal way to worship God on Sundays, the first day of the week (cf. Acts 20:7-11). Also, sacred rituals are indispensable in the Scripture as seen in: the dedication of the temple (cf. 2Chro 7:1-8), the scape goat (cf. Lev 15:21), the Passover (cf. Exod 12:1-11), etc. The Eucharist is the definitive and transcendent fulfillment of all rituals! As Scripture indicates: “For it is impossible that the blood of bulls and goats should take away sins. Consequently, when Christ came into the world, he said, ‘Sacrifices and offerings thou hast not desired, but a body hast thou prepared for me’” (Heb 10:4-5). Jesus DID NOT SAY, “Eat my body in spirit” or “drink my blood in spirit.” Not at all! He performed the ritual of the New Passover – using physical bread and wine, transforming them into His own Body and Blood – and bequeathed it to us as an undying legacy (cf. 1Cor 11:23-26). BIBLE VERSE FOR THE WEEK: “He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day” (John 6:54). INVITATIONS FOR WORSHIP: Please, evangelize by inviting family and friends to worship with us. Tell them, “Come and see!” (John 1:39). (Juan 1:39).

Discipleship Meeting—September 27, 2018 The committee (formerly Stewardship) met on September 27. They have met with various ministries and still have more to meet with on vision planning. The meetings thus far have been very productive and we will be compiling all of the thoughts in the near future. New Member Welcome Meetings—We had our first meeting in September and had 4 families and several ministries present. The second meeting was on October 4. Welcome Table—We had a few sign up to be present at the table after Masses, but are still looking for many more. Please consider staying 5 minutes after Mass to be at the table. Advent Retreat—December 1 and will be in English & Spanish. Mark your calendar now. Heritage Festival—discussed the changes that will be happening on January 27, 2019. See page 7 for the details.

Disciples—it’s who we are. Discipleship—it’s what we do.

WORDS OF WISDOM The spirit of wisdom, as we discover in today’s first reading, comes to those who pray for her. Wisdom, like the word of God, carries a message of consolation as well as of great challenge. The Letter to the Hebrews tells us that the word of God, infused with the wisdom of God, is “sharper than any two-edged sword.” We cannot shrink from the wisdom of God, or from the word that has the power to penetrate our hearts and minds. Jesus, the living word of God, the embodiment of wisdom, has strong, deeply penetrating words for the rich young man who comes to him seeking answers to his most profound ques-tions. Just when the young man thought he had done enough to fulfill God’s commands, more was asked of him. This is no less true for us. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
