THE MOST HOLY TRINITYJUNE 15 & 16, 2019

One God, Three Divine Persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. This is

the mystery of the Trinity. Great thinkers in the past have tried to unravel the mystery of God. In its profoundness, one can only understand how God works in the history of salvation. This mystery is incomprehensible but Jesus teaches us about the Father and the Holy Spirit from which we draw our knowledge and faith. Jesus makes it clear that there is the dynamics of relationships among Father, Son and Holy Spirit. This dynamic makes us understand how God relates with us. Although many theologians try to

spell out this mystery, they also help us deepen our understanding of God. Our concern is probably much more than what God means for our Christian faith and life. What, or better, who is God for us, our relationship with Him? We are constantly reminded that God loves us and that he forgives us. How do we discern this love? How do we respond to it? How does our relationship with God affect our relations with people? Let God enlighten us on this feast of the Trinity and bring us closer to him.

STEWARDSHIP MOMENTIn today’s Gospel Jesus talks about life with his Father and the Spirit. He tells his disciples that what belongs to the Father belongs to him, and that the Spirit will take from what is his and give it to them. Jesus helps us understand that the relationship between Father, Son and Spirit is one of perfect sharing and loving generosity. This shared life is the foundation for what we now understand as part of living life in the Trinity. The abundant generosity of those who are good stewards of the gifts entrusted to them give us a glimpse into the love of the Triune God. Does the extent of our generosity give others a glimpse of God’s life within us?

LIFELONG CATECHESISReverend Ernesto A. Juarez Jr.Parochial VicarDirector Of Liturgy

Through our baptism we share the common priesthood. Everybody is

called to be part of Christ’s mission. And by the Sacrament of Holy Orders, bishops and priests are given the role to exercise this mission, the ministerial priesthood. Deacons are also given through ordination are called to assist the bishops and priests.

“The ministerial or hierarchical priesthood of bishops and priests, and the common priesthood of all the faithful participate, “each in its own proper way, in the one priesthood of Christ.” While being “ordered one to another,” they differ essentially. In what sense? While the common priesthood of the faithful is exercised by the unfolding of baptismal grace --a life of faith, hope, and charity, a life according to the Spirit--, the ministerial priesthood is at the service of the common priesthood. It is directed at the unfolding of the baptismal grace of all Christians. The ministerial priesthood is a means by which Christ unceasingly builds up and leads his Church. For this reason it is transmitted by its own sacrament, the sacrament of Holy Orders.” (CCC 1547)

“The divinely instituted ecclesiastical ministry is exercised in different degrees by those who even from ancient times have been called bishops, priests, and deacons.” Catholic doctrine, expressed in the liturgy, the Magisterium, and the constant practice of the Church, recognizes that there are two degrees of ministerial participation in the priesthood of Christ: the episcopacy and the presbyterate . The diaconate is intended to help and serve them. For this reason the term sacerdos in current usage denotes bishops and priests but not deacons. Yet Catholic doctrine teaches that the degrees of priestly participation (episcopate and presbyterate) and the degree of service (diaconate) are all three conferred by a sacramental act called “ordination,” that is, by the sacrament of Holy Orders:

Let everyone revere the deacons as Jesus Christ, the bishop as the image of the Father, and the presbyters as the senate of God and the assembly of the apostles. For without them one cannot speak of the Church. (CCC 1554)

THE SACRAMENT OF HOLY ORDERS

With great joy, we announce that 13 of Our Lady of Good Counsel School students received the Sacraments of First Holy Eucharist and/or Confirmation on Sunday, June 2 at the 11:00am Mass, along with 58 candidates from the parish. Msgr. Gary Secor presided and was assisted by Fr. Pascual and Deacon Efrain. In his homily, Msgr. Secor noted that Sunday was the Feast of the Ascension and “it is fitting that our young people are receiving the Gifts of the Holy Spirit today. On this day, Jesus returned to the Father, but he promised his apostles that he would send the Holy Spirit to be their helper and guide.” He compared this to growing up: “At first our parents do everything for us, but along the way, we grow up and figure out how to do the things our parents did, especially after we leave home for college or a career.” Msgr. concluded, “When Jesus left them, the apostles had to figure out how to do the things that Jesus did. With the help of the Holy Spirit, they were able to go out and heal people, celebrate the Eucharist and the Sacraments, and preach the Gospel to the world.”

God is good. All the time!
