Dear Parishioners and Visitors, Happy Fourth Sunday of Advent!!! Next week at this time we will not only be celebrating Christmas, but we will play
host to numerous out of town relatives of parishioners and a number of semi-annual guests, known affectionately as CEO Catho-
lics, or Christmas and Easter Only Catholics. Now, I’m not saying I like this designation or the status quo, but I’ll bet that if any
one of them had for a moment thought about coming back and worshipping with us more regularly, the one thing that might help
to get them back is a warm, welcoming reception from we who are here every week. This spirit of welcome is not a new thing
for us Catholics. St. Paul writes, “Be generous in offering hospitality.” The Letter to the Hebrews says, “Do not neglect to
show hospitality,” and St. Peter writes, “Be mutually hospitable without complaining.” especially when someone is in your seat
(um…I added that last part.).
Not that I’m worried about any of this. The people of OLGC are among the most welcoming around, from what I’ve
heard from visitors. And as we hear of the story of a pregnant mother and her husband being refused hospitality at the places
where travelers lodged, let us not, like those innkeepers, unknowingly turn away the presence of God—not any time of year, but
especially not at Christmas! So be ready to smile a lot, laugh a lot, and perhaps adjust from your regular routine, and remember:
have a merry, merry Christmas!! Fr. Michael

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE from the
Office of Family Life Education (a Hope Appeal
Agency)
Mary was excited about her first pregnancy and rushed to tell her cousin. Sadly children are often seen as a liability, “another mouth to feed” or an “obstacle to my ca-reer.” It is said “Christmas is for children.” It is more accu-rate to say “Christmas is for adults to appreciate the gift of children!”
