AOTA Vice President Presentation on Ethics

at the OTAO Conference:

The OT licensing board invited Shawn Phipps, AOTA Vice President to discuss the ethical dilemma’s that licensees are facing. The Board has experienced an increase in calls from ther-apists who are asked to do something they are not comfortable with, that violates the Code of Ethics and the administrative rules.

Takeaways:

It is your license on the line, feel empow-ered to stand up to facilities that ask you to do something unethical.

Stand up to bullying. Reach out to a mentor /someone you trust

and get help. OTLB does not have jurisdiction over facili-

ties.

Fingerprinting Background checks for new applicants in effect January 1st

In accordance with ORS 676.303 (3), the OT Li-censing Board will require that all applicants pass a fingerprint background check prior to li-censure in Oregon. This applies to all applica-tions received after January 1, 2018. All appli-cants for licensure, limited permits and rein-statements must have their digital prints taken at a Field Print office. The cost of the back-ground check is $40 and is added to the licen-sure fee and passed through to Oregon State Po-lice. The licensing board will absorb the cost of the LEDS terminal access and administrative costs. For more details, go to Oregon.gov/OTLB.
