Other Drugs
LSD, PCP, and other hallucinogens distortjudgment and reality, cause confusion andpanic, and can produce severe mental problemsresulting in strange and violent behaviour.Clearly, individuals under the influence of thesekinds of drugs should not drive.
Every Driver Should Know
Driving requires a combination of thought andmotor skills, a great deal of common sense, and a concern for the safety of everyone on theroad. Safe driving requires an observant eye, asteady hand, and a clear mind. Mixing drugswith driving is only asking for trouble. Whytake the risk?

Stimulants
Amphetamines, cocaine, phenylpropanolamine, ephedrine and caffeine (often found in coldtablets and cough syrups) stimulate the centralnervous system. Small amounts of these drugsgenerally make people who are tired feel morealert; however, repeated use of stimulants tocombat fatigue will result in loss ofcoordination. Heavy amphetamine use maykeep an individual aware or active for longstretches of time, but it will also make thedriver edgy, less coordinated, and more likelyto be involved in a traffic accident.
Over-the-Counter Drugs
Non-prescription drugs, such as cold tablets, cough syrups, allergy remedies, etc., purchasedover-the-counter may contain antihistamines, alcohol, codeine, and other compounds thatcan be especially dangerous for drivers. Youshould read labels and pay attention towarnings (e.g., may cause drowsiness, do notoperate machinery, caution against engagingin operations requiring alertness).
If you have questions about a particulardrug or combination of drugs, check withyour doctor or pharmacist.
It is important that you understand howYOU personally react to the drug you areusing. Ask your doctor if the prescribeddrug can affect your ability to drive.
