Vacation Bible School ~ June 5—7. 2017

In one corner of our back yard we have a gar-

den plot dominated by several large rhubarb

plants. A few weeks ago this patch was bare

black soil and now a short time later we have

rhubarb. When we harvested just the thickest

stalks we had enough to fill two five gallon pails.

It brought to mind how much we are blessed with

abundance.

We have so much to celebrate! During the

summer months we will have the opportunity to

bring of the abundance of our gardens to the

veggie/fruit/plant exchange every Sunday. Just

bring from the garden, place on the table in the

narthex and by the end of the service we hope the

table will be empty. You don’t have to bring an

item to take an item.

During the summer months special services

are planned. This year we will follow the regular

Biblical texts and will bring in a growing theme.

We all love the growing season and on Sundays

various aspects will be incorporated into the ser-

vice.

Vacation Bible School is just around the cor-

ner. Our theme for VBS is “Hero Central”.

The youth calendar is

planned through the summer

months. Pastor Janet and a

wonderful youth committee, in-

cluding Heather, continue to

provide awesome events for the

youth of the parish. See page 4

of the newsletter for details.

Visitation continues. Please let me know if

you would like a visit sooner than the normal ro-

tation. Health and life concerns change. So we

would be happy to stop.

The Men will continue their Bible Study

through the summer. Come for coffee and

insightful discussion on Thursdays at 10:00 am

at OSL.

The summer is a wonderful time to enjoy

God’s creation. God has blessed us with abun-

dance. I pray that we may find creative ways to

use that which God has given, not only to bright-

en the lives of our families but also our congrega-

tion, community, and world.

Your friend and pastor,

Pastor Janet Warnes

The OSL Endowment Committee is scheduled to

meet on June 8 at 5:00 pm at OSL. The Lydia/Phoebe Circle meets on Friday, June 9,

at 2:00 pm at Good Sam Apartments. Food Shelf volunteers will be needed in July.

months. If you would like the Pastor to visit sooner than when you fall in the rotation, please let the Pastor or office know.

Fair Service on Sunday, July 23, at 9:00 am, please let Pastor Janet know.

Thrivent Choice Dollars

If you are a member of Thrivent and have insurance policies with Thrivent, you may be able to direct Choice

dollars to OSL or Melo. Choice dollars are a charitable grant program that gives Thrivent Financial direction

as to where you would like the gifts given. If you specify, they will be given to OSL or Melo. To date in 2017, no

funds have been designated to OSL.

How do I designate Choice Dollars?: The easiest way is to call 1-800-847-4836 and when prompted say

“Thrivent Choice”. You can also visit Thrivent.com/thriventchoice. If you have any questions, call the office or

talk with Pastor Janet.

Our last day of quilting was May 2. We tied

a number of quilts and then we packed them for the

Lutheran World Relief collection in Thief River Falls

on May 7. We added bar codes to our several boxes

this year so that they can be tracked and we can find

out where they end up!

These ladies work hard on Tuesdays. Some

of them sew the quilt tops at home; none of the tops

are sewn at the church. Whenever you see a quilter,

tell them it’s a job well done.

Jim Bjorgaard once again loaded up

our quilts and brought them to TRF for the

LWR collection. We give Jim a high-five

along with all the dedicated ladies in our group!

We look forward to starting again in the Fall.

Have a wonderful Summer!! Mission Action

The 2017 OSL Spring Supper is history! It takes many hands to produce a meal for 228 people. This event wouldn’t hap-pen without all of the willing donors and workers. Maybe you are a caller for your group, or peeled potatoes, rolled meatballs,

baked a cake, served, washed/wiped dishes, set the tables, bussed tables, came for dinner or a takeout, delivered meals, carried out garbage, mashed potatoes, made gravy, ran up and down the stairs with food for takeouts; the list goes on and on. We are most appreciative of EVERYONE who assisted in any way to make this big event happen. The Youth were awe-some workers, too! Special thanks to Mick’s of Warren for the donations of coleslaw, ice, and pickles. Thank you to Janice Grochow for picking up the potatoes. Mark your calendars for the 4th Wednesday in April of 2018! Co-chairs, Deb Schmidt & Carol Anderson
