Organiser Range Hand Held Computers

Psion develops, engineers and markets a powerful , cost

effective and comprehensive range of Organiser II hand

held computers with over 700 ,000 in use world wide . The

product range provides a unique entry point to hand held

computing with tremendous flexibility obtained by

combining specially written and customised software and

interfaces, with a variety of hand held terminals to fit

specific needs.

In addition to the standard Organiser II , a range of

machines is also available with different keyboard ,

memory and software configurations.

e The Organiser Operating System can be configured

to run only dedicated applications supplied on a

Datapak.

• All machines have 2 Datapak ports and can

accommodate up to 256K of non-volatile read/write

memory or 1/2 Mbyte of Flash memory for data file

and program storage.

• All Organisers have an additional communication port

enabling the attachment of a wide range of

peripherals such as modems, printers , barcode

readers , CCD scanners, mag card swipes and more.

• The machines have a 2 or 4 line LCD display with

variable contrast to achieve ideal viewing.

• The keyboard and Datapak ports on all machines are

protected by a sliding ABS plastic case , providing a

robust and compact portable unit.

• All machines can be programmed using OPL

(Organiser Programming Language) . This simple,

structured and powerful BASIC-like language with

database handling capabilities is run in compiled form

yielding rapidly executing run-time modules. 6203

assembler programming is also possible.

• All Organisers can communicate with PCs through a

Comms Link interface via the RS232 serial

connection . Organisers can also plug into Modems

through the same RS232 interface.

Organiser Storage Devices

Organiser Storage Devices

All Psion Organiser hand held computers accommodate

special Psion storage devices that fit into the two slots in

the back of the machines. They are the equivalent of

floppy disks in PCs and provide the user with substantial

extra memory capacity. There are four basic types of

memory packs ranging in capacity from 16 to 256 kbytes

of storage. Over 2 million packs are in use world wide .

Datapaks

These packs do not rely on any form of battery power and

will keep data permanently safe in or out of the Organiser.

They can only be erased externally using the Psion

Formatter.

Rampaks

An ideal alternative to Datapaks if the information being

stored needs to be frequently edited or revised.

Flash Datapaks

These packs utilise Flash memory technology providing

very high security and have the following advantages

over conventional Datapaks ;

• Electrically erasable in-situ in

the Organiser.

e Lower power consumption using

less Organiser battery life.

• Faster read and write times .

One Time Programmable Packs

Suitable for storing applications

and data which need to be

protected against copying,

alteration or over-writing . They are

available in various colours for easy

identification.
