Twenty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time August 25, 2019

FOCUS: Strive to enter through the narrow gate. Today we are given fair warning by Jesus that we should strive earnestly to enter the kingdom of God, and not simply assume a place will be reserved for us. So let’s make an effort, as we travel the path of disci-pleship, to travel lightly, unencumbered by unneces-sary attachments to the things of this world. LITURGY OF THE WORD: In the first reading, God proclaims that he comes to gather all nations. The second reading exhorts the Christian community not to disdain discipline, as it originates from God’s love. In the Gospel from Luke, Jesus tells his followers to strive for salvation through the narrow gate. REFLECTION: When we enter the final and everlast-ing banquet, Jesus tells us, we will be surprised at those enjoying the feast. God has a pretty broad vision and we will be surprised at those who "made it" through the narrow gate. If we accept this vision of the end time, then we should start preparing for it now. We need a change of glasses; we need to look at our world through biblical lens and act accordingly. So we ask ourselves: • When I hear the phrase "God’s people" whom do I

think are included? • How does what Jesus says broaden my notion of

those "chosen" by God?

God bless our newly baptized Christopher Anthony Sannella

May God bless our students and their teachers as they return to school and to their studies.

My name is James “Jimmy” Doroba. My family joined St. William Parish January 2016. We were long time parishioners of St. John the Baptist in Manayunk. I am the 4th of six chil-dren. You may have seen me as an altar server at the noon Mass, and the Easter Vigil, and other special occa-sions such as Confirmation. I also

played the drums with the choir for the beginning Centennial Mass. I grew up in the Roxborough section of Philadelphia, and still reside there. From a young age, I enjoyed being an altar server, and thought about becoming a priest. I have always felt a deep closeness to Jesus, and His Mother, Mary. As I grew into a young adult, those feelings turned into a calling. I have been accepted as a seminarian (First Year College), and begin my journey to the priesthood on August 20, 2019. I ask that you keep me in your prayers as I continue for the next nine years to study and develop to become the best priest I can be. I too will keep all of you in my daily prayers. Thank you and God Bless. Jimmy
