THE ORDER OF MORNING WORSHIP 13TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

10:00 AM JULY 1, 2018

WELCOME & ANNOUNCEMENTS

GATHERING AROUND THE WORD

CALL TO WORSHIP SONGS

HEARING THE WORD

FIRST SCRIPTURE LESSON: Romans 12:14-19

14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice;

mourn with those who mourn. 16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be

willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited. 17 Do not repay anyone

evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. 18 If it is possible, as far as it

depends on you, live at peace with everyone. 19 Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but

leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.

SECOND SCRIPTURE LESSON: John 21:15-19

15 When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you

love me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to

him, “Feed my lambs.” 16 A second time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”

He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Tend my sheep.” 17

He said to him the third time, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter felt hurt because he

said to him the third time, “Do you love me?” And he said to him, “Lord, you know everything;

you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep. 18 Very truly, I tell you, when

you were younger, you used to fasten your own belt and to go wherever you wished. But when

you grow old, you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will fasten a belt around you

and take you where you do not wish to go.” 19 (He said this to indicate the kind of death by

which he would glorify God.) After this, he said to him, “Follow me.”

MESSAGE: “GRIT: We Do Tough Stuff”

PRAYER OF THE DAY

Loving God, give us the strength to surrender and let go of our own need to control. Fill us

with your Spirit which guides us into love and strengthens us to be honest when we need to speak

truth, which heals us when we are hurt or abused by another person, which loves us when we feel

isolated or alone, and which empowers us to forgive others when we have been hurt. Jesus, give

us the true grit it takes to love with courage. We pray we can be real with one another, to be

vulnerable to grow together, in your love. Amen.

RESPONDING TO THE WORD

OFFERTORY

“How Majestic Is Your Name” by Michael W. Smith CELEBRATION OF THE LORD’S SUPPER

Invitation to the Table Prayers of the People with Lord’s Prayer Gifts of God for the People of God: “Oceans” by Hillsong

Oceans (Where Feet May Fail) Hillsong United

You call me out upon the waters The great unknown where feet may fail And there I find You in the mystery In oceans deep My faith will stand

And I will call upon Your name And keep my eyes above the waves When oceans rise, my soul will rest in Your embrace For I am Yours and You are mine

Your grace abounds in deepest waters Your sovereign hand Will be my guide Where feet may fail and fear surrounds me You've never failed and You won't start now

So I will call upon Your name And keep my eyes above the waves When oceans rise, my soul will rest in Your embrace For I am Yours and You are mine

Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders Let me walk upon the waters Wherever You would call me Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander And my faith will be made stronger In the presence of my Savior

Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders Let me walk upon the waters Wherever You would call me Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander And my faith will be made stronger In the presence of my Savior

Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders Let me walk upon the waters Wherever You would call me Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander And my faith will be made stronger In the presence of my Savior

I will call upon Your name Keep my eyes above the waves My soul will rest in Your embrace I am Yours and You are mine

Communion will be served by intinction. Servers will travel to each area and bring the elements to the people. People may partake as they receive. Please join us in singing “Oceans” by Hillsong as we take communion together.

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION (led by workcamper, said in unison by congregation)

Gracious God, thank you for these gifts. We have been filled with your Spirit. Send us out from this place with a knowledge of your Spirit’s presence in our lives. Give us the grit we need to make your world a better place. Amen.
