The presentaon focused on the basic concepts of electron microscopy, in parcular, Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM). The basics covered the specificaons, various modes of operaon and different capabilies of the TEM that was recently installed and commissioned at CMTI. The presentaon was also about versale applicaons of TEM in various fields. 2. CELEBRATIONS Celebraon of ‘Hindi Divas’ ‘Hindi Divas’ was celebrated on 19 th September 2014 as a part of promong Official Language – Hindi in day to day working of the instute. Shri. P S R Murthy was the Chief Guest and Shri. P V Shashi Kumar, Director In-charge presided over the funcon. Shri. P S R Murthy, expressed during his address to love, respect, learn, and pracce wring the Naonal Language and also equally respect other languages of our country. He also suggested to make use of or write one word or one sentence in Hindi language in day to day official work by which one can learn and improve slowly the wring skills that will help in implementaon of Hindi language. 1. TECHNICAL PRESENTATION

‘Advanced Characterization using TEM (TITAN), by Dr. Karthick Balasubramanian on 09th October 2014

A Technical presentation was organized on ‘Advance Material Characterization using TEM (TITAN-G2 60300)’ by Dr. Karthick Balasubramanian, Product Marketing and Applications Engineer from M/s. ICON Analytical on 09th October 2014 for Scientists and technical officers of CMTI.

The presentation focused on the basic concepts of electron microscopy, in particular, Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM). The basics covered the specifications, various modes of operation and different capabilities of the TEM that was recently installed and commissioned at CMTI. The presentation was also about versatile applications of TEM in various fields.

2. CELEBRATIONS

Celebration of ‘Hindi Divas’

‘Hindi Divas’ was celebrated on 19th September 2014 as a part of promoting Official Language – Hindi in day to day working of the institute.

Shri. P S R Murthy was the Chief Guest and Shri. P V Shashi Kumar, Director In-charge presided over the function. Shri. P S R Murthy, expressed during his address to love, respect, learn, and practice writing the National Language and also equally respect other languages of our country. He also suggested to make use of or write one word or one sentence in Hindi language in day to day official work by which one can learn and improve slowly the writing skills that will help in implementation of Hindi language.

As part of the celebration ‘Hindi Essay’ and ‘Hindi Vocabulary’ Competitions were conducted. The prizes were distributed to the winners by the Chief Guest.

Ayudha Puja Celebration on 1st October 2014

Ayudha Puja was celebrated with usual fervor, grandeur and devotion at newly constructed AEAMT building on 1st October 2014. Shri. P V Shashi Kumar, Director In-charge, addressed the employees and their families and acknowledged the CMTI’s contribution to various ongoing and future upcoming projects of National importance. Shri. P V Shashi Kumar, Director In-charge and Joint Director’s distributed prizes to children of employees, who had excelled in their academic career.

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, 2nd October 2014

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Campaign) was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Oct. 2 this year on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s 145th birth anniversary.

Keeping in view the nationwide ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan’, CMTI joined the cleanliness campaign across the Institute premises. The staff & employees, including Director, Joint Directors, Heads of department took an oath for a cleaner nation and participated in the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’.

‘Vigilance Awareness Week’ Celebration From 27th October to 01st Nov 2014

The Vigilance Awareness Week was observed at CMTI from 27th October to 01st Nov 2014. As part of the celebration on 27th October 2014, the oath taking of the pledge received from the government was administered by the Director In-charge, to all the employees followed by the discussions on this year’s theme of “COMBATING CORRUPTION – TECHNOLOGY AS AN ENABLER”.

Prof. S M Jaamdar, was the Chief Guest for the function organized on 30th October 2014 as part of the vigilance awareness week. He narrated how the technology can enable in fighting against corruption. In addition speech competition was organized and winners were felicitated by the chief guest.

3. VISIT OF HIGHLEVEL DELEGATES TO CMTI

Visit of UK Delegates to CMTI, Bangalore on 10th Sept 2014

R e s e a r c h Council UK (RCUK) based at the British High Commission in New Delhi, has facilitated the visit of UK delegates to CMTI Bangalore on 10th September 2014. Among the delegates who visited CMTI were Professor Sir Mike Gregory, Head, Institute for Manufacturing, David Wright, Head of Manufacturing, Technology Strategy Board, Dr Ian Campbell, Director of the school of Design Research & Reader in Computer Aided Product Design, Professor Jonathan Corney, Professor, Barbara Shollock, University of Warwick, Dr. Sam Turner, Head of PTG, Ian Collier, Director of High value Manufacturing Catapult, Steve Statham and Professor Neil Hopkinson, Department of Mechanical Engineering at University of Sheffield.

After formal introduction at director’s office the delegates were taken around to visit the facilities at CMTI. Interactive session was arranged, Director In-charge Shri. P V Shashi Kumar, welcomed the delegates and gave presentation about CMTI. Prof. S Mohan, Nano innovation chair, CMTI chaired the session. Dr. David Wright, Head of Manufacturing Technology Strategy Board coordinated the UK delegate’s presentation.

The UK delegates mainly presented about their various Catapults development, specifically High value manufacturing work to Boeing and Nuclear area. Steven Statham presented about advanced manufacturing technology centre activity like composite area, Process technology group, integrated manufacturing group, Design, prototype test centre and national metals technology centre.

Barbara Shollock, presented about the Warwick manufacturing group activity, mainly focused about light weight technology, Battery chemistry to improve power density, Surface coatings and characterization in WMG and the development in Graphine area.

Prof. S. Mohan concluded the session by quipping that UK delegates activity in Catapult and CMTI activity are similar in nature for application development oriented to the industry requirement. The collaborative work area with CMTI and Catapult requires some more discussions and modality of terms and conditions to be worked out shortly based on further discussion and policy of the both government agencies.

Honorable Secretary to Govt. of India, Ministry of MSME, Shri Madhav Lal and Chairman & Managing Director, NSIC, and his team visited CMTI on 27th Sept 2014 for familiarization with the facilities and activities of the Institute.

4. RETIREMENTS

CMTI wishes all the retirees a very peaceful, healthy and active retired life.

Shri. P V Shashi Kumar, Director In-charge, Superannuated from the services of CMTI in October 2014, after 40 years of distinguished service. He joined as Apprentice Officer during 1972 and was actively involved in the execution of various precision metrology & instrument design related projects including precision manufacturing. He has a vast experience in the field of metrology, manufacturing of precision components, etc. He was responsible for establishing Nano Manufacturing Technology Centre (NMTC) at CMTI. He is a Lead Accessor in NABL, New Delhi. His service as Joint Director was extended for 4 years in order to provide continuity to the ongoing activities of the Institute. He was Director In-charge for a spell of about 9 months before his retirement.

Smt. Nalini Vijayaraghavan, Deputy Administrative Officer, Superannuated from the services of CMTI in October 2014, after 35 years of service. She has worked in various capacities in different departments handling various activities in Administration, Accounts and NMTC.
