AS/A-Levels

• All students in the current Y13 do AS/A Levels

• Typically 80% of our students go to University outside of Spain (the vast majority to the UK)

• Typically the best British Universities require3 A-Levels to access

• They are concerned more with quality, not quantity of qualifications

• For example, it is far preferable to have 3 A-Levels at AAA than 5 A-Levels at BBBBB

“...students will be able to access Spanish universities, without

the need to sit the Spanish entrance exam [selectividad], by

graduating from any other educational system of the European

Union… provided that such students meet the requirements of

that educational system to access their universities”

“…podran acceder a las universidades españolas, sin necesidad

de realizar la prueba de acceso, los alumnos procedentes de

sistemas educativos de… la Union de Europa… siempre que

dichos alumnos cumplan los requisitos exigidos en sus sistemas

educativos para acceder a sus universidades”

LOE 2006 [Now]

• The Spanish Government is currently consulting on how to make admission to Spanish Universities easier

• These changes are likely to lead to:

– the abolition of the PAU (parte específica) and therefore the need to ‘top-up’ to 14 points

– Spanish Universities establishing their own entry requirements (such as interviews)

• These changes reflect a shift towards theBritish model of University Access

…but it may CHANGE!
