CEO’SMESSAGEIn the main feature of this issue JEC highlights its solutions for healthcare facilities across the Asia region. Healthcare facilities today have to delicately balance a significant number of challenges that range from increased service demand stemming from higher patient expectations, to the broader role they play in servicing society, whilst at the same time ensuring that environmental as well as economic factors are well considered. At JEC we work closely with healthcare operators to understand their needs and in turn offer engineering and product solutions that assist them to overcome these key challenges.
In the news section of this magazine we are delighted to share some of the new contracts that JEC has been awarded. These include the recent award to JEC of the contract to supply the M&E building operations systems for the largest shopping complex in Thailand, as well as notable contracts in the Philippines where JEC will be providing support to B/E Aerospace and the Tiwi Geothermal Plant facilities and for the design and construction of two sewage treatment plant facilities in Taguig city.
Please also note that the JEC headquarters in Hong Kong is relocating and, as well as housing all of our Hong Kong operations under one roof, will feature some of JEC’s Green Building Technologies within the new premises, more information on which can be found in the Environmental, Health and Safety section. In addition, a showroom and display area will give visitors a deeper insight into JEC’s breadth of capabilities and we welcome you to come and visit us in our new home.
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of JEC’s customers, employees and partners for your support in 2010, and to wish you all a happy and successful 2011 and year of the Rabbit.
今期主題特寫重點介紹怡和機器在亞洲區內的醫療設施方案。今天，醫療設施需巧妙地應付以下各項挑戰：一方面病人對醫療服務的要求和期望 不斷提高；另一方面，醫療設施在服務社會的領域上擔當更廣泛的角色； 此外，環境及經濟因素亦須同時並重。怡和機器與醫療界緊密合作，了解其需要，同時提供工程與產品方案，助其克服這些關鍵性的挑戰。

JEC Thailand Awarded Contract for Mega Bangna泰國怡和機器贏得曼谷Mega Bangna大型商場項目
1
泰國怡和機器贏得曼谷新購物商場Mega Bangna的工程合約，負責其全套建築物設備操作系統之供應、安裝及試營運。
Mega Bangna是東南亞區內首個新式低層商場，樓高兩層，總建築面積達40萬平方米，核心店舖有「宜家」首間泰國分店。 商場建成後將成為泰國最大的新型低層購物中心。
泰國怡和機器將會發揮所長，負責所有機電系統的供應、安裝及試營運，其中包括空調及通風系統、電氣及通訊系統、衞生清潔設備、水管及防火系統。
泰國怡和機器董事總經理Narongchai Chavanussaporn表示：「怡和機器獲得這份重要的合約，可見我們作為泰國購物 中心及酒店樓宇設備承建商的翹楚地位，得到充分的肯定。」
JEC will supply M&E building operations systems for the largest shopping complex in Thailand. 怡和機器為泰國最大的購物中心提供機電設備操作系統。

JEC Thailand has won the contract to supply, install and commission a comprehensive set of backbone building operation systems at the new Mega Bangna shopping complex in Bangkok.
Mega Bangna is Southeast Asia’s first low-rise regional mall and will have a total building area of 400,000 square metres. The anchor store of the two-level complex is Thailand’s first branch of IKEA. Upon completion it will be the largest shopping complex of its kind in Thailand.
JEC Thailand will supply, install and commission all mechanical and electrical systems including air-conditioning and ventilation, electrical and communication systems, and sanitation, plumbing and fire protection systems.
Narongchai Chavanussaporn, Managing Director of JEC Thailand said, “The award of this major contract to JEC is a resounding acknowledgement of our position as Thailand’s leading contractor of building services for shopping complexes and hotels.”

On 20th September 2010, JEC Philippines was awarded the contract to design, supply and install the mechanical ventilation and air-conditioning systems for B/E Aerospace located at First Philippine Industrial Park, Tanauan Batangas, Philippines. The contract commenced in September 2010 and is expected to be completed in 2011.
On 22nd October 2010, JEC Philippines was also awarded a contract by Aboitiz Power Corporation to rehabilitate the water cooled air-conditioning systems for the Tiwi Geothermal Plant facilities located in the province of Albay, Luzon, Philippines. The primary rehabilitation objective is to return the system to a reliable and effective state ensuring adequate cooling and to protect all electrical equipment and apparatus. The contract commenced in November 2010 and is expected to be completed in 2011.
JEC together with its partners, Kingsford and FF Cruz, have been awarded two sewage treatment projects in the Philippines. The first is for the design and construction of a 40 million litres per day Sewage Treatment Plant in Baybreeze area and the second is for 75 million litres per day Sewage Treatment Plant in Libingan Ng Mga Bayani (LNMB) area. Both projects are tertiary sewage treatment facilities and located in the Taguig City of Philippines. The contract signing ceremony was held on 21st December 2010 in Manila.
The project teams, under the stewardship of JEC Hong Kong and the Philippines will provide the complete design, supply, construction, installation and commissioning, testing, completion and delivery of the waste water treatment plant, inclusive of preliminary treatment, biological treatment, sludge handling facilities, odour control and treatment, Scada (system control and data acquisition) automation and effluent disposal.
On the award of this project JEC Chief Operating Officer S H Wu said, “We are delighted that JEC will be a part of these important sewage treatment facilities. We look forward to leveraging on JEC’s engineering expertise in sewage treatment in Hong Kong for these new projects which are the first of its kind in Manila.”
The two contracts will commence in December 2010 while the Baybreeze project is due to be completed in mid 2014, and the LNMB project is to be completed end of 2014.
2010年9月20日，菲律賓怡和機器贏得一份工程合約，負責設計、供應及安裝「第一菲律賓工業園」內B/E Aerospace公司的機動通風及空調系統。該工業園位於菲律賓八打雁省丹瑙灣市。該合約於今年9月起生效，預計於2011年完成全部工程。

Chung Nga Chun Wins the First runner-up in the 2010 Hong Kong Youth Skills Competition鍾雅俊贏得2010全港青年技能比賽亞軍

JEC and Trane Hong Kong are providing air-conditioning system replacement for the Mandarin Hotel Group and Hongkong Land’s properties.
JEC and Trane Hong Kong is providing an air-conditioning system upgrade for the Mandarin Hotel Group. The project includes the supply and installation of four R123 water-cooled centrifugal chillers with adaptive frequency drive (780 tonnes cold) and a chiller plant control, which is due to be completed at the end of 2010.
The second air-conditioning system upgrade work for Hongkong Land’s Chater House will include the supply and installation of three R123 water-cooled centrifugal chillers with adaptive frequency drive (750 tonnes cold), which is expected to be completed in March 2011.
The use of water-cooled chillers in both projects will enhance existing operations and provide approximately 30-35% energy saving per annum.
After 10.5 hours of competing against 12 other contestants in a practical trade test, Chung Nga Chun of M&R won the first runner-up in the 2010 Hong Kong Youth Skills Competition – Air-conditioning & Refrigeration Trade, held on 15th – 16th July 2010.
This Competition aims to promote the standard of vocational skills in Hong Kong and encourages young people to excel themselves in their trades. The biennial competition is jointly organised by the Vocational Training Council, the Clothing Industry Training Authority, the Construction Industry Council and the Industrial Centre of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Selected winners from each trade will compete with other young technicians from 50 nations in the Worldskills Competition.
Chung Nga Chun joined JEC in 2006 as a craft apprentice, and was promoted to a Mechanic II in 2009. Being one of the medal winners from the competition, Mr Chung was invited by VTC to undertake a four-week training programme for selection to participate in the Worldskills Competition 2011 in London.
經過與12位選手進行十小時三十分鐘的 實用技能測試後，保養及維修部的鍾雅俊在2010年7月15至16日舉行的2010年全港青年技能比賽 – 空調與製冷範疇中奪得亞軍。
是次比賽的目的是推廣職業技能標準，並鼓勵香港年輕人在自己所屬行業超越自己。 兩年一度的比賽是由職業訓練局、製衣業訓練局、建造業議會及香港理工大學工業中心合辦，在每個行業中選擇優勝者，與來自50個國家的年輕技術人員競逐倫敦的世界 技能大賽。
鍾雅俊於2006年加入怡和機器擔任技工 學徒，2009年晉升為二級技工。作為得獎者之一，鍾先生被職訓局邀請，參加倫敦舉行的2011世界技能大賽，並進行為期四週的培訓。
怡和機器與香港特靈攜手合作，為文華東方集團及香港置地集團之物業提供空調系統更新工程。
怡和機器與香港特靈為文華東方集團提供空調系統更新服務，此項目包括供應及安裝四台780冷噸之R123水冷離心變頻式冷水機組及提供冷水機房控制系統，預計2010年底完成。
第二個項目是為香港置地集團旗下的遮打大廈提供空調系統更新服務，此更新包括供應及安裝三台750冷噸之R123水冷離心變頻式冷水機組，預計2011年3月完成。
在此兩個項目中使用的冷水機組，均可加強目前的空調系統，及預計每年可節省耗電量達30-35%。

On 15th October 2010, JEC hosted a cocktail for the company’s customers and partners in Hong Kong. The event took place at the Excelsior Hotel and over 170 guests attended. Guests were introduced to the JEC Green Building Technologies Solutions. JEC's Chief Executive, Mr Alex Newbigging, gave a speech presenting some of the past year’s highlights and upcoming projects.

In collaboration with Hsin Chong Construction Group Ltd, JEC has supplied sustainable materials to the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). JEC selected green building products from Milliken and Forbo as part of its contribution towards the Hong Kong Government’s revitalisation scheme for historic buildings.
As part of Batch 1 of the scheme, the historic North Kowloon Magistracy Building (built in 1960) is being converted into SCAD’s Hong Kong campus. JEC was successfully awarded the project and has been working hard to ensure SCAD is ready for its first intake of students in September 2010.
The project uses environmentally friendly carpets with PVC-free cushion backing, providing both walking comfort and sound absorption. The carpets are highly durable in high foot traffic locations, making them especially suitable for the classroom environment. Inside the classrooms where easy maintenance is required, marmoleum floors are installed. These use only natural materials and are applied with a water-based adhesive, which is naturally anti-bacterial and stain resistant.
In September 2010, JEC provided water efficient urinals for the male toilet renovation at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
The new urinals are ‘waterless urinals’ that do not require water cisterns or inlets. The unique design utilises special ‘sealant mineral oil’ and ‘anti-bacterial glazing’ to isolate odours, and resist adhesion and staining, which finally cut water consumption and reduce germ retention on urinal surface.

第一批的活化計劃，是將歷史悠久的北九龍裁判法院大樓（建於1960年）改建成薩凡納藝術設計學院的香港校園。怡和機器有幸成功投得該項目，並一直積極施工，以確保薩凡納藝術設計學院於2010年9月份能開放給 首批學生入讀。
此項目採用了無聚氯乙烯物料的環保軟墊地毯，不但讓步行時有很好的 質感，並有卓越的吸音效果；其耐用性亦很高，使地毯在高人流的地方也能歷久常新，很適合課室環境使用。課室需要易於打理保養，我們便 安裝了亞麻籽油地板，它僅使用天然材料，並應用水溶性膠粘劑，有效 防菌防污。
2010年9月，怡和機器為 香港理工大學男洗手間 設施的更新工程，提供及 安裝用水節能小便器。
此小便器為「免沖水小便器」，無需接駁入水管及水箱， 其獨特設計採用一種純天然物質的阻隔礦物油及抗菌瓷釉，能阻隔異味，並持續抑制細菌及污垢堆積，最終達致 節省廢水及減少小便器瓷面的殘留細菌量。

On 7th December 2010, JEC organised a luncheon for customers and business partners at the Hong Kong Jockey Club. We were honoured to invite Mr Barry Cheung, GBS, JP, Chairman of Urban Renewal Authority, to give a speech on the topic of 'Urban Renewal'. The participating guests were enthusiastic in sharing their views and raised questions to Mr Cheung on the topic.

Optimising Material Handling Logistics Modern hospitals require the efficient and reliable flow of patient documents and medical materials between departments and workstations to allow healthcare staff to provide high-quality patient-care.

There are three models that can carry between 9 kg to 70 kg depending on the specific needs of the client.

To ensure the highest safety levels, the vehicles will instantly stop when it detects an object on the track, and the safety lock mechanism will not allow the vehicle to move unless the container is properly secured.
Control System: An easy to use Windows compatible control system tracks deliveries and automatically selects the fastest routes to minimise any traffic congestion and delivery times.

With a diverse array of solar technologies on the market it is tempting to judge a photovoltaic cell on the amount of Peak KW produced per square meter of cell. This, however, masks the complexity of the issue.
Amorphous silicon is a type of silicon used thin film photovoltaics. It uses tiny amounts of silicon deposited in a number of layers. It is manufactured at lower temperatures and uses less material. Hence, it is more environmentally friendly to manufacture than traditional photovoltaic cells and delivers the additional benefit of an effective energy payback period.
Another vital attribute is that amorphous silicon suffers much less from the effects of radiation than traditional silicon. This means that an amorphous panel may have a higher output in real conditions due to reliable power generation through high temperature tolerance and low intensity sunlight, even in diffuse sunlight conditions.
As a technology that depends on the environment for producing energy, photovoltaic installations must be tailored to their environment.

JEC Helps the HKSAR Hospital Authority Achieve Greater Efficiency and Sustainability at Chai Wan Laundry Facility怡和機器助香港醫院管理局提升柴灣洗衣房效率及可持續性
The HKSAR Hospital Authority (Hospital Authority) and healthcare institutions across the region are facing the combined challenges of having to deal with increasing patient loads while at the same time having to consider environmental and sustainability impacts when enhancing their capacity and services. These are not only challenges for the Hospital Authority’s front line activities in their hospitals, but also for all their essential support facilities such as ensuring the efficient supply of clean hygienic medical linen across their extensive network of hospitals.
In 2009, JEC successfully helped the Hospital Authority achieve these goals at their major Chai Wan Laundry facility which serves all of their hospitals and clinics across east Hong Kong Island. This facility cleans approximately 25 tonnes of medical linen every day, making it one of the largest laundries in Asia.
In line with their sustainability and development action plans the Hospital Authority wanted to reduce the facility’s energy consumption while also optimising its capacity and productivity. JEC’s highly experienced industrial laundry team worked with the Hospital Authority to produce a tailored solution to meet their specific needs.
香港的醫院管理局（下稱「醫管局」）及其他醫療保健機構，均面對病人不斷增加的挑戰，但同時亦需考慮加強服務及提升工作量對可持續性及環境的影響。遇上這些難題與挑戰，不但影響醫管局轄下各醫院的前線部門，更影響到其他輔助支援服務，例如確保為全線醫院網絡供應有效率清潔衛生病床床單服務。

Energy Saving and Efficiency Enhancing Features of the Twin Systems: The linen presses that JEC sourced and installed are designed to decrease the time and energy required for drying by reducing the linen’s moisture retention levels. A series of gas dryers, which operate at higher temperatures, were included to work alongside the more conventional steam dryers in order to minimise drying time and energy usage.
For operational efficiency, a system of inter-connected automatic sheet separators and feeders were installed to minimise the labour requirements of the facility.

ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH AND SAFETYJEC’s New Green Office怡和機器新的環保辦公室A green office can provide numerous benefits to companies such as energy savings, increasing resource efficiency as well as increasing motivation for employees. Green office management includes a broader spectrum of components, namely procurement, recycling initiatives, power management in the workplace, energy-efficiency measures, and documents and printing management, as well as IT asset disposal and device fleet management. Companies with a deep understanding of these components that integrate them into their operations are able to positively impact both their bottom line and the environment.
At JEC’s new office, we have applied our technical and engineering skills with the management abilities of our people to make our new office as green as possible. The new JEC office aims to provide environmentally responsible office supplies and has implemented a comprehensive green office management strategy. In the design and development of our new office, we employed many of the earth-friendly products that we proudly supply to our clients, such as energy efficient lighting and sustainable flooring products. JEC aims for the office to be an environmentally-friendly and healthy place to work.
Energy Efficiency JEC partners with a wide range of the world’s leading producers of energy efficient technologies, such as LED lighting. LED lights not only use less electricity, but also produce less heat than traditional bulbs. Thus, buildings and offices that use LED lights save on both energy costs to power the bulbs and on air-conditioning expenses.
JEC worked with an architect to integrate LED products into our new office by using lighting simulation software to assist in designing the lighting layout. Additionally, we applied Schneider’s lighting control system to further lower operating costs by further reducing energy used to power the lights.
Green Flooring JEC’s new office primarily employs Milliken flooring products, which are carbon-neutral and certified NSF-140 Environmentally Preferable Products. They are PVC-free, reusable, renewable and recyclable. Furthermore, the backing of Milliken carpet tiles contain as much as 35% recycled content.
In some areas, our new office has Forbo floorings. In 2009, Forbo was the first flooring manufacturer to be awarded the “Hong Kong Green Label” Certificate for its Marmoleum Real product. Forbo also produced the bulletin boards in our new office. They are made

能源效益 怡和機器與領導全球的高能源效益技術公司結為商業夥伴，使用環保產品，例如 LED（發光二極管）照明系統。LED照明 不但節省電力，更比傳統燈泡釋放較少熱能。使用LED照明的樓宇及辦公室可節省 燈光與空調系統所耗的能源費用。
怡和機器與建築設計師合作，使用照明 模擬軟件，將LED產品整合至新的辦公 大樓，協助設計照明佈局圖。此外，我們 選用施耐德照明管理系統，減少亮燈時 耗用的電量，進一步降低營運成本。
環保地材 怡和機器的新辦公室主要採用Milliken地氈產品，屬碳中性類別，並獲頒發NSF–140 環保產品認證。該產品不含聚氯乙烯， 可再用、可再生使用及可循環再造。 而Milliken的方塊地毯墊料含高達35%可 循環再造物料。20

of renewable raw materials, including oxidised linseed oil, rosin and cork, which together yield a flexible, durable and resilient product.
For our cafeteria, our design team selected Pergo wood flooring. Pergo uses only renewable wood products from sustainably managed forests, such as pine and spruce – never exotic woods or wood from rainforests that are threatened by extinction. Another environmental advantage of Pergo laminate floors is the high amount of thermal energy that can be extracted when they are burned in waste incineration plants. The manufacturer uses this property to increase the energy efficiency of their operations, recycling all wood waste from the milling and sawing processes and using that to heat the production facilities.
Indoor Air Quality Inside the air ducts of our new conference rooms is an air purification system (RGF® HVAC Photohydroionization Cell Advanced Oxidation System). This system has proven quite efficient as a means of improving indoor air quality in modern buildings. Environmental consultants have found that airborne bacteria could be reduced by over 93% in an indoor environment using this air purification system.
Information Technology JEC has implemented numerous in-office recycling and waste reduction schemes since 2006. In our new office, colleagues wishing to print documents must present their access card at the printer to release print jobs. This measure will eliminate the scenario of someone forgetting to retrieve his or her printouts and then unnecessarily reprinting them. Thus unnecessary paper and ink waste will be reduced. The active support of all employees is very important in this and all resource management efforts of JEC.
Talent Integration JEC’s engineers and technicians continue to draw on our employees’ vast pool of knowledge and experience during all stages of this new office project, from E&M design, to solution installation, to on-going technical facilities management.
Throughout the development of our new office, we integrated our core values of being ‘Technically Proficient’, ‘Dependable’ and ‘Responsible’ and showcased our wide range of sustainable products and energy efficient solutions that care for the environment and make a positive impact in the community. 至於員工餐廳方面，設計小組選用Pergo 木地板。Pergo只生產可再生使用的木材 產品，原材料來自以可持續方式管理的 森林，材料包括松樹、雲杉等，絕不使用來自熱帶雨林瀕臨滅絕的外來樹種或木材。Pergo複合木地板還有一個環保優點， 就是於焚化爐燃燒時，可釋放出大量 熱能。生產商利用這特性，增加營運的 能源效益，循環使用製造時產生的木屑，並作為熱能生產設施的燃料。
室內空氣質素 怡和機器新辦公室會議室的空調管道已安裝淨化空氣系統（ RGF® 暖通空調光氫 離子化組件先進氧化系統）。這款空氣淨化系統功效卓著，是改善現代樓宇室內空氣的理想方案。受託的環境顧問進行了空氣質素測試，結果發現室內空氣細菌量大減逾93%。
資訊科技 怡和機器自2006年起推行多項辦公室循環再用及廢物減少計劃。遷入新辦事處後， 同事必須在打印機前使用專用證，啟動 列印功能，方可列印文件。這項措施可避免職員忘記取回列印文件，並重覆按鍵列印的情況。從而減少不必要的紙張及油墨 浪費。怡和機器在減排計劃及其他資源 管理要取得成果，實有賴各員工全力支持。

PERSONALITYH W Yu – the Operations Director of Maintenance & Renovation Division in Hong Kong 專訪余慶為 – 怡和機器的保養及維修業務董事
H W Yu joined JEC in 1984 and has over 20 years of experience in the building maintenance & renovation and technical services businesses.余慶為於1984年加入公司, 在樓宇保養及維修和技術服務業有超過20年的經驗。
Have there been any lasting or constant themes over your time at JEC so far? Since joining JEC, throughout all the changing times and roles I have had, I have found that there is a need to be constantly learning and have a questioning mind to ensure your skills are always aligned with the changing needs of your clients and the opportunities in JEC.
Do you have any advice to younger engineers? They must be open and share experiences, whether they are successes or mistakes, and never be afraid to ask questions, because that is the only way you learn! I am always happy to answer or discuss any questions colleagues have, I won’t be able to answer every question but I am sure I will be able to find someone in JEC that can help!
Have there been any particularly challenging project? A CLP project in 1991! It was our very first design and build project, so we had no experience and not many of the resources we needed. But this was a great example of how we quickly adapted to a new challenge, and worked very closely with CLP to successfully deliver one of Hong Kong’s few efficient Ice-Storage air-conditioning systems, which we still provide the maintenance for to this day.
Do you have any memorable projects? There was this one Motorola project where at the end, the client also asked us to provide air-conditioning on the ground floor, but only for the four hours of their opening ceremony (to be held in the middle of the summer)! To branch a pair of chilled water pipes from the main system, would have cost over half a million dollars so that idea was unsurprisingly rejected. After inspiration from the wet market, we quickly built a make shift ice tank system to transfer the cool air from the air handling units to the ceremony. In the end, the clients were doubly happy as we found a solution at a fraction of the expected cost, and they also used the cooling tank to make their beer ice cold for the celebrations!
From your pastime golf, do you have any learning’s that you can apply on and off the course? Get your form right, and have self confidence, then you won’t miss!

您對年青工程師有甚麼忠告？ 無論成功或失敗，一定要抱持開放的態度，分享箇中經驗，不用害怕提問，這才是學習的唯一方法！我樂意解答或討論同事提出的任何問題，雖然我不一定能夠解答每一個問題，但我肯定總能夠在怡和機器找到 合適的人幫忙！
可有遇到別具挑戰的工程項目嗎？ 有！1991年中華電力公司的工程項目！這是我們首個結合設計與建造的項目，我們當時缺乏經驗，也沒有充足的資源在手！但這是一個很好的例子，顯示我們如何快捷部署，克服新挑戰。我們與中華電力公司緊密合作，成功推出香港罕見的高功率蓄冰交流電系統。至今，我們仍然負責該系統的保養 服務。
還有甚麼令人津津樂道的項目？ 有一個摩托羅拉的項目，臨近尾聲時，客戶要求我們在地下準備一個只用四小時的 空調系統，特別作為開幕儀式之用，以應付盛夏的高溫！假如從總機分支一套冷卻水管系統，便需額外支出逾50萬元安裝費，這個建議當然被否決。後來，我們從濕貨市場得到靈感，立即製作一個臨時空調系統， 把冷空氣由空氣處理機組輸送至開幕禮 會場。客戶看到這個方案只動用了預期成本的小部份，當然喜出望外。
在高球運動中，能否領悟到球場內外皆通的道理？ 方法正確，保持自信，就能一擊即中！

During Khun Pairoh’s career at JEC, she has performed a number of roles from an Assistant Secretary to Account Receivable Supervisor, and now as Credit Control Manager in the Central Support Division.
Throughout her 50-years at JEC, Khun Pairoh has demonstrated passion and loyalty to the company. She explains the combination of elements of her working environment at JEC as, “I have a great boss, great friends, and a great job in JEC. I’m definitely very happy here”.
Khun Pairoh emphasize that it is very important to build up and maintain very good relationships with both customers and colleagues, which she views as the cornerstone of her success. She also advises the younger members of JEC, “Always be sincere, no matter if you are in or out of the office, and try the best in performing and enjoying everything throughout your life.”
Khun Pairoh’s dedicated efforts in JEC is most appreciated and important to the growth and success of company. We would like to thank her contributions and wish Khun Pairoh every success.

Since its establishment in the 1920s, JEC has taken a proactive approach to bettering the engineering profession by enhancing the skills and furthering the capabilities of JEC engineers. To improve in a positive manner, engineers must first and foremost continuously practise engineering, along with remaining involved in solving engineering problems. It is common for engineers, particularly new ones, to request more site work dealing with contractors, customers and trade practitioners so they can learn to handle engineering problems more independently. The desire to improve is what JEC strives to spark in all of our engineers.
JEC’s diverse projects act as a learning and development platform for young engineers. JEC’s supportive and career-minded managers and project leaders empower our engineers and allow them to be extensively involved in global sourcing, project tendering and contracting jobs at all stages of their career. Apart from on-the-job training, engineers have the opportunity to meet global suppliers, attend international exhibitions, and join technical site-visits. Five years ago, JEC implemented a Management Trainee Programme, which has attracted many young and talented engineers to our management pipeline.
Additionally, we employ an individualised needs-based retention plan for niche engineers. Through this scheme we recognise that, aside from key factors such as salary benchmarking, job rotation, internal transfer and management philosophy alignment, overseas exposure and potential utilisation are crucial in retaining valuable niche talent. in both human resources and talent management sectors, JEC always strives to maintain innovative and fresh approaches to talent attraction and retention.
JEC is also committed to the training and development of our maintenance and renovation staff, which comprise our largest technical pool. Close collaboration between our foremen and supervisors allow all maintenance and renovation staff members to attend training and development sessions on security system control, fire services and electrical building works, including our seminars with VTC that cover hot topics relating to the latest air-conditioning system designs.
JEC recognises that professional development should not be limited to young professionals, particularly because our upper-management cannot effectively foster the growth of young professionals if they themselves do not continue to enhance their skills and understanding. For that reason, we regularly send our executives to executive coaching, business leader forums and team and performance management workshops.
Putting People First JEC plans, hosts and critically evaluates all hiring, training and development initiatives. If staff development stops at the process level and does not include evaluation and enhancement stages, it will not lead to talent retention. So we regularly ask ourselves: “What do targeted talents want?”
Our Chief Executive, Mr Alex Newbigging, reiterated in a recent managers’ communication meeting that “people are our key asset and are the primary ingredient of our success." Echoing this, our E&M Contracting Operations Director, Mr CK Tam, recently remarked in his monthly team meeting, “Though we run projects and tasks, we are all human beings. Please continue to pay attention to our staff; try to understand how they see themselves and how they are being treated.”
We will consider our training and development investments a success when the JEC Employee Satisfaction Survey indicates positive changes, when our numbers show that we are retaining valuable talent even more effectively and when JEC is consistently labelled by our customers as a corporation that is globally minded, customer-orientated, technically proficient, dependable and responsible. These are the values that JEC lives by.

以人為先 怡和機器策劃、主辦及嚴格評估各類型招聘、培訓及職業發展計劃。假如員工的發展只停留在工作流程的層面，而不包括評估與鞏固技巧，便難以挽留人才。所以，我們要經常自問：「我們的目標人才需要甚麼？」
我們的行政總裁艾力．紐璧堅先生最近在管理人員會議中重申：「人才是我們的重要資產，也是我們成功的基石」。言猶在耳，機電合約工程部業務董事譚俊傑先生也在每月團隊會議中說：「雖然我們專責工程服務，但我們始終是『人』。請繼續關注員工，嘗試理解他們如何看待自己，以及如何受 看待。」

JEC Thailand Helps Flood Victims 泰國怡和機器幫助水災災民
Celebrating Christmas with Lamma Island’s Elderly
怡和機器義工隊與南丫島長者慶祝聖誕
On 22nd October 2010, JEC Thailand made a donation to assist the flood victims caused by the heavy rains and floods in many affected provinces in Thailand. The company and staff provided Thai Baht 62,120 including the food and relief supplies through Thai Red Cross Society.
2010年10月22日，泰國怡和機器公司及員工向泰國紅十字捐獻以賑濟水災災民，這次共捐出62,120泰銖，包括食品和救援物資，以賑濟水災災民，協助災民渡過難關。是此水災在泰國許多省份帶來暴雨和洪水。

On 12th December 2010, JEC Caring Team members visited the elderly on Lamma Island and celebrated Christmas with them. The JEC Caring Team has been visiting the elderly on Lamma Island on a regular basis since 2007, usually during festive seasons.
When the group arrives at the ferry pier, the elderly residents get excited and spread around the news of the JEC group’s arrival. In addition to visiting and chatting with them, the Caring Team members give the elderly necessities that they may need, as well as teach them how to use new electrical appliances. “Sometimes it is easy to get lost on the small roads of Lamma Island,” says Karen Huen, a JEC Caring Team member, “but it is always nice to see the smiling faces of the elderly during the visits, and it makes it all worthwhile”.

探訪當天，當義工隊到達輪渡碼頭，長者居民表現得很 雀躍，並將怡和機器義工隊到達的消息馬上傳遍開來。 除了探訪及聊天，小組成員亦將必需品贈予長者們， 並教導他們如何使用新電器。怡和機器義工隊成員禤嘉琳說：「有時候很容易在南丫島的小路上迷路，但只要看到長者們的的笑臉，一切都變得很值得。」

Central Rat Race 2010 2010鼠戰中環
JEC Philippines Supports 10-10-10 Run for the Pasig River 菲律賓怡和機器以行動支持「10-10-10帕西格河長跑」
On 24th October 2010, JEC took part in the Central Rat Race which is organised by Hongkong Land. The race is a fundraising event for MINDSET. It also showcases the Central district of Hong Kong as Asia’s leading business address. This year, eight contestants from JEC joined the Rat Race with JEC Chief Executive Alex Newbigging joining the Big Rat Race. All JEC contestants dressed in the tailor-made orange costume, which is designed by our management trainees. They had an enjoyable and fun time during the race.
On 10th October 2010, JEC Philippines participated in the “10-10-10 Run for the Pasig River”, a run for a good cause that also set a world record.
The 10-10-10 Run for the Pasig River is a running event that supports the cause of rehabilitating the Pasig River through “River Clean-Up” and “Declogging the Esteros”. The Pasig River is a 27-kilometer river system that passes through Metro Manila and connects Laguna de Bay to Manila Bay. It is now one of the most polluted and toxic river systems in the Philippines.
The run was led by the world champion boxer Manny Pacquiao and other sports celebrities. The run comprised three races for registered runners – 3km, 5km and 10km. All race categories started simultaneously at 5:30 am.
JEC Philippines sent a total of 79 participants; 53 participants in the 3km race, 14 participants in the 5km run as well as 8 in the 10km run, led by JEC Philippines General Manager, Mr Guenter Taus - all of whom successfully completed the run.
The run was part of the global 10/10/10 event known as the “Global Work Party” – the world’s biggest day of climate change activism. The 10-10-10 Run for the Pasig River broke the Guinness World Record and made history with its participating 116,000 runners.
怡和機器參加了於2010年10月24日由置地公司舉辦的「2010鼠戰中環」，是次活動亦為慈善組織「思健」籌款，並凸顯 香港中環作為亞洲商業中心的地位。今年，八名怡和機器同事參加「鼠戰」，另行政總裁艾力 • 紐璧堅先生則參與了「鼠王爭霸戰」。怡和機器各參賽者均穿上由管理培訓生設計的橙色服裝，並樂在其中。
2010年10月10日，菲律賓怡和機器參加了「10-10-10帕西格河長跑」，此有意義的長跑活動創下了世界紀錄。
「10-10-10帕西格河長跑」主張全面修復帕西格河，呼籲 大眾支持「清潔河道」及「暢通河口」。帕西格河是一個長27公里的河道系統，貫穿馬尼拉，並連接內湖與馬尼拉灣。現時帕西格河是菲律賓污染最為嚴重的河流系統之一， 水中滿是有害物質。
長跑當日，世界拳擊冠軍曼尼．帕奎奧聯同多位菲律賓 體壇猛將帶頭開跑。比賽分為3公里、5公里及10公里路程，所有參加者均於清晨5:30同時起步。
菲律賓怡和機器共派出79名員工參賽，分別有53名、14名、 8名員工參與3公里、5公里及10公里賽事。在菲律賓怡和機器總經理Guenter Taus的帶領下，所有同事都成功完成比賽。
是項長跑活動是「10/10/10全球氣候行動派對」的活動 之一，當天見證了全球對抗氣候變化志願者最盛大的聯合行動。「10-10-10帕西格河長跑」有116,000名跑手參加， 刷新了世界紀錄，締造了歷史性的一幕。
