OPTIME Monday 20th May 2019
RECEPTION: 01769 580215 STUDENT ABSENCE LINE: 01769 582120 EMAIL: [email protected]
W e are very pleased with our Year 11s, who have made a great
start to their GCSEs.
As we move towards half term, attention focusses very much
upon Year 10, and I would like to say congratulations to all the pupils who put
themselves forward for senior positions; there is always such a strong sense
from our pupils that they want to contribute to College life in a positive way.
The benefits of strong collaborative working were reflected in the Year 10
GCSE Drama performances last week, and it is very clear that we have some
very able and resilient pupils.
It is clear that everyone benefits from working well as a team, it is an
overriding strength within the College, and there is overwhelming sense that
we work for each other to achieve our goals.
Working as a team also includes the great work our new PTA is doing on
behalf of our pupils. They will be holding their first big event in June, a Family
Quiz. The details are below and we hope to see many parents and pupils
there. Please support them whenever you can.
I send my best wishes to every pupil in Year 11, and look forward to the
forthcoming History/ French Trip to beautiful Normandy next week.
I hope everyone has a good half term break.
Mike Johnson, Executive Headteacher

Year 7 Pupil Beats College 800m Record from
1980!
L ast week Mr Harrison took four athletes to the
Championships at Braunton Athletics Track. The
pupils had all run or jumped distance this season
which would put them in contention to be selected for
the North Devon Athletics team, who will compete in
the Devon Schools Athletics Championships in Exeter

Entries were - Jack Tithecott (Year 7) 800m; Sophie
Wren (Year 8) 800m; Lucy Webber (Year 8) 800m and
Long Jump; Poppy Hughes (Year 9) 200m and Long
Jump.
Jack ran 2.34 winning his 800m race and beating the
College record held since 1980, an incredible
achievement, and qualifies for the Devon Champs –
congratulations Jack!
Poppy ran 30.6 for her 200m finishing in sixth position,
and jumped 4m 33, which put her in second place and
expected to qualify for Devon Champs
Lucy ran 2.56 for her 800m finishing eleventh, and
jumped 3m 51 in the long jump, finishing in fourteenth
position and Sophie ran 2.44 for her 800m, finishing

My Sea Poem...
The Sea Jaguar
The sea is like a Jaguar,
Spotty and wild.
It bends down low,
Waiting for its chance to pounce.
The sea is like a Jaguar,
White and calm.
It climbs up on a tree,
And sleeps, sleeps.
The sea is like a Jaguar,
Spotty and wild.
It flies though the air,
Catching and devouring anything in its
path.
The sea is like a Jaguar!

UNWANTED UNIFORM
T he College PTA would be delighted to take it off
your hands!
If your child has grown out of their blazer, skirt, PE
top or shorts, please drop off at reception. We would also
be happy to take good quality shin pads, boot
bags, rugby skull caps, etc.
The PTA will be selling good quality used
