Special Note on Pre-Completion OPT

NOTE: Pre-completion OPT is subtracted from the 12 months available to you.

• Full Time: During the summer break and at other times when school is not in session if the student is currently enrolled and eligible, and intends to register for the next class session.

• Part Time: While school is in session and the student still has coursework to complete, not to exceed 20 hours per week. (OPT done part-time is subtracted from the 12 months at a rate of 50%.) Student must maintain a full course of study during the period of part time OPT employment.‐Remember: There are only 12 total months of OPT available. OPT done before a degree is completed will count against the 12 month total and reduce time available after the degree is awarded.

Pre-completion: can apply 90 days before one academic year is completed, but cannot start working before the one academic year requirement is completed.
