Lab 0: Introduction to Riverbed Modeler (formerly called OPNET)

    Objective

This lab teaches the basics of using Riverbed Modeler Academic17.5.Riverbeds user-friendly interface with drag-and-dro features enable students to effectively model! manage and troubleshoot real-world networ" infrastructures.

#n this lab! the student will learn to create a new ro$ect and get familiar with the ro$ect editor. The student will learn tocreate different scenarios and learn to simulate and comare results for different scenarios.

    Overvie

Riverbed rovides a %irtual &etwor" 'nvironment that models the behaviour of networ"s! including its routers! switches!rotocols! servers! and individual alications. The %irtual &etwor" 'nvironment allows #T managers! networ" and systemlanners! and oerations staff to more effectively diagnose difficult roblems! validate changes before they areimlemented! and lan for future scenarios such as traffic growth and networ" failures.

(ou can do )what if* analyses +called scenarios in Riverbed, on networ" designs! $ust as you can on sreadsheets withfinancial business models. owever! instead of loo"ing at )bottom line* financial numbers! you will be loo"ing at howresonse times! latency +delays, and other networ" erformance measures will change under different networ" designaroaches.

To create a networ" simulation +called a ro$ect in Riverbed,! you secify the nodes +comuters! switches! routers! etc., inyour networ"! the lin"s between nodes! and the alications that will be running on the nodes.

#n this lab you will learn to built a simle networ" with a few user clients! some swithces and servers. (ou will learn how toconfigure each device and run the simultations. (ou will also learn how to collect results and ananlyse the obtainedresutls.

NOTE 1: Remember to save your models in you P Drive. You do not have access to save in the C drive.

NOTE 2: Do not o and chane anythin in the !rocess model. Your models "ill sto! com!ilin

A ro$ect consists of one or more networ" scenarios. #n this lab! you will create different scenarioscomaring alication erformance with different connection seeds.
