This dishwasher complies with current safety requirements. Inap-propriate use can, however, lead to personal injury and damage toproperty.

To avoid the risk of accidents and damage to the dishwasher,please read the installation plan and the operating instructionscarefully before it is installed and used for the first time. Both con-tain important information on its installation, safety, use and main-tenance.

Keep the installation plan and the operating instructions in a safeplace and pass them on to any future owner.

Miele cannot be held liable for damage caused by non-compliancewith this information.

Correct use

This dishwasher is intended for use in domestic households andsimilar residential environments.

This dishwasher is not suitable for outdoor use.

It must only be used as specified in these operating instructionsfor cleaning domestic dishes and cutlery. Any other usage is notsupported by the manufacturer and could be dangerous.

This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including chil-dren) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lackof experience and knowledge.

Safety with children

Children must be kept away from the appliance unless they areconstantly supervised.

Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play withthe appliance. Keep small children away from the appliance at alltimes to avoid the risk of injury. There is the risk that children maylock themselves in the dishwasher.

If the automatic door opening mechanism (depending on model) isactive keep young children away from the area in which the dooropens. Danger of injury in the unlikely event of a fault with the open-ing mechanism.

Danger of suffocation! Ensure that any plastic wrappings, bags,etc. are disposed of safely and kept out of the reach of children.

Keep children away from detergents. Dishwasher detergents cancause burning in the mouth, nose and throat if swallowed, or inhibitbreathing. Keep children away from the dishwasher when the door isopen. There could still be detergent residues in the cabinet. Seekmedical attention immediately if your child has swallowed or inhaleddetergent.

Technical safety

Installation, repair, and maintenance work should only be per-formed by a Miele-authorized service technician. Work by unquali-fied persons could be dangerous and may void the warranty.

Before installation, check the dishwasher for visible signs of dam-age. Under no circumstances should you use a damaged dish-washer. A damaged dishwasher could be dangerous.

The electrical safety of this appliance can only be guaranteedwhen continuity is complete between it and an effective groundingsystem. It is most important that this basic safety requirement ispresent and regularly tested and, where there is any doubt, the elec-trical system in the house should be checked by a qualified electri-cian.Miele cannot be held liable for the consequences of an inadequategrounding system (e.g. electric shock).

Reliable and safe operation of this dishwasher can only be as-sured if it has been connected to the electrical supply.

If the dishwasher is plugged into the electricity supply using a 3-pin plug with a grounding contact (it must not be hard-wired), theelectrical socket must be easily accessible after the dishwasher is in-stalled so that it can be disconnected from the electrical supply atany time.

There must be no electrical sockets behind the dishwasher. Thereis a danger of overheating and fire risk if the dishwasher is pushedup against a plug.

The dishwasher must not be installed under a cooktop. The highradiant temperatures which are sometimes generated by a cooktopcould damage the dishwasher. For the same reason, it should not beinstalled next to open fires or other appliances which give off heat,such as heaters, etc.

To avoid the risk of damage to the dishwasher, make sure that theconnection data on the data plate (fuse rating, voltage, and fre-quency) matches the electrical supply before connecting the dish-washer to the mains. Consult a qualified electrician if in any doubt.

Do not connect the dishwasher to the electrical supply until it hasbeen fully installed and any adjustment has been made to the doorsprings.

The dishwasher may only be operated if the door opening mecha-nism is working correctly. Otherwise there could be a risk of dangerwhile the automatic door opening mechanism (depending on model)is active.To check that the door opening mechanism is working correctly:

– The door springs must be adjusted equally on both sides. Theyare correctly adjusted when the door remains stationary when lefthalf open (approx. 45° opening angle). It is also important that thedoor cannot fall open.

– The door locking pins automatically retract when the door opensat the end of the drying phase.

Do not connect the appliance to the electrical supply by a multi-socket adapter or an extension lead. These do not guarantee the re-quired safety of the appliance (e.g. danger of overheating).

This appliance must not be installed and operated in a non-sta-tionary location (e.g., on a ship).

Do not install the dishwasher in a room where there is a risk offrost. Frozen hoses may burst or split. The reliability of the electronicmodule may be impaired at temperatures below freezing point.

To avoid any damage to the appliance, the dishwasher must onlybe operated when it is connected to a fully vented plumbing system.

The water pressure (flow pressure at the connection point) mustbe between 7.25 - 145 psi.

A damaged appliance could be dangerous. If the dishwasher getsdamaged, turn off the electrical supply and contact Miele.

The manufacturer's warranty will be invalidated if the appliance isnot repaired by a Miele-authorized service technician.

Defective components should be replaced by Miele original partsonly. Only with these parts can the manufacturer guarantee thesafety of the appliance.

During installation, maintenance and repair work, the appliancemust be disconnected from the electrical supply (turn it off and with-draw the plug from the socket).

If the connection cable is damaged, it must be replaced with aspecial cable of the same type (available from Miele) by a Miele-au-thorized service technician only.

This dishwasher is supplied with a special bulb to cope with par-ticular conditions (e. g. temperature, moisture, chemical resistance,abrasion resistance and vibration). This special bulb must only beused for the intended purpose. It is not suitable for room lighting.Replacement bulbs may only be fitted by a Miele-authorized techni-cian or the Miele Technical Service.

Proper installation

The dishwasher must be installed and connected in compliancewith the installation plan.

Be careful when installing the dishwasher. Wear protec-tive gloves to avoid injury on any sharp metal components.

The dishwasher must be correctly aligned horizontally to ensureproblem-free operation.

In order to ensure stability, built-under and integrated dishwashersmust only be installed under a continuous counter which is securedto adjacent cabinetry.

The door springs must be adjusted equally on both sides. Theyare correctly adjusted when the door remains stationary when lefthalf open (approx. 45° opening angle). It is also important that thedoor cannot fall open. The appliance may only be used with correctly adjusted doorsprings.

Proper use

Do not use solvents in the dishwasher. Danger of explosion!

Do not inhale or ingest powder detergent. Dishwasher detergentscontain irritant or corrosive ingredients which can cause burning inthe nose, mouth, and throat if swallowed, or inhibit breathing. Seekmedical attention immediately if detergent has been swallowed or in-haled.

Avoid leaving the door open unnecessarily as someone could tripover it and be injured by it.

Do not sit or lean on the opened door. This could cause the dish-washer to tip and be damaged, and you could get injured.

Dishes can be very hot at the end of a program. Allow them tocool until they are comfortable enough to handle before unloading.

Only use detergent and rinse aid formulated for domestic dish-washers. Do not use dishwashing liquid.

Do not use commercial or industrial detergents as these maycause damage, and there is a risk of a severe explosive chemical re-action (such as an explosive oxyhydrogen gas reaction).

Do not fill the rinse aid reservoir with powder or liquid detergent.This will cause serious damage to the reservoir.

Inadvertently filling the salt reservoir with powder or liquid dish-washer detergent will damage the water softener. Make sure youhave picked up the correct packet of dishwasher salt before fillingthe salt reservoir!

Only use special coarse grained dishwasher salt for reactivation.Do not use other salts such as cooking salt, agricultural grade orgritting salt. These may contain insoluble additives which can impairthe functioning of the water softener.

In an appliance with a cutlery basket (depending on model), cut-lery is cleaned and dried more efficiently if placed in the basket withthe handles downwards. However, to avoid the risk of injury, placeknives and forks with the handles upwards.

Plastic items which cannot withstand being washed in hot water,such as disposable plastic containers or plastic cutlery should notbe cleaned in the dishwasher. The high temperatures in the dish-washer may cause them to melt or lose shape.

If you use the "FlexiTimer/Delay Start" option (depending onmodel), make sure that the dispenser is dry before adding detergent.Wipe dry if necessary. Detergent will clog if poured into a damp dis-penser and may not be thoroughly dispersed.

Please observe the information given in "Technical data" regardingthe capacity of the dishwasher.

Accessories

Use only genuine original Miele parts. If spare parts or acces-sories from other manufacturers are used, the warranty may becomeinvalid.

Disposal of your old dishwasher

Make the door lock inoperative so that children cannot acciden-tally shut themselves in. Remove or destroy the locking bracket ofthe door lock, and make appropriate arrangements for the disposalof the appliance.

These operating instructions apply to several different dishwasher models withdifferent heights. The specific dishwasher models are referred to as follows: Standard = 31 11/16" (80.5 cm) high dishwashers (integrated) and 33 1/4" (84.5 cm) high dishwashers (freestanding) XXL = 33 1/4" (84.5 cm) high dishwashers (integrated)

Disposal of the packing mate-rialThe cardboard box and packing materi-als protect the appliance during ship-ping. They have been designed to bebiodegradable and recyclable.

Ensure that any plastic wrappings,bags, etc. are disposed of safely andkept out of the reach of children. Dan-ger of suffocation!

Disposal of your old applianceElectrical and electronic appliancescontain valuable materials. They alsocontain certain substances, compoundsand components which were essentialfor the proper functioning and safe useof the equipment. Handling these mate-rials improperly by disposing of them inyour household waste can be harmful toyour health and the environment. There-fore, please do not dispose of your oldappliance with regular household wasteand follow local regulations on properdisposal.

Consult with local authorities, dealers orMiele in order to dispose of and recycleelectrical and electronic appliances.Miele assumes no responsibility fordeleting any personal data left on theappliance being disposed. Please en-sure that your old appliance is keptaway from children until removal. Ob-serve safety requirements for appli-ances that may tip over or pose an en-trapment hazard.

Energy-saving dishwashingThis dishwasher is economical in theconsumption of water and energy. For best results follow these tips:

– For most economical dishwashing,make full use of the baskets withoutoverloading the dishwasher.

– Choose a program that best suits thedegree of soiling and the type ofdishes being washed.

– Select the Normal program (depend-ing on model) for energy-saving dish-washing. This program is the most ef-ficient in terms of its combined en-ergy and water consumption at clean-ing normally soiled dishes.

– Follow the detergent manufacturer'srecommendations on detergentdosage.

– When using powder or liquid deter-gent, you can use 1/3 less detergent ifbaskets are only half full.

– The dishwasher can be connected toa hot water supply for furthereconomies. If the water is heated byfor example, solar panels, this wouldbe energy efficient. However, if your water is heated byelectricity we recommend cold waterconnection.

Before using for the first time

Opening the doorAt the end of programs with a dryingphase (see "Program overview") thedoor will open automatically a little inorder to help the drying process. This function can be deactivated, if pre-ferred (see "Programming options, Au-toOpen").

To open the door, reach under the re-cessed handle and pull.

Open the door fully so that the doorlocking pins retract again.

If the door is opened during operation,all functions are automatically inter-rupted.

Water in the dishwasher may behot. Danger of scalding!Only open the door during operationif absolutely necessary and exerciseextreme caution when doing so.

Keep the area around the doorfree of obstructions.

Closing the door Push the baskets in.

Then lift the door upwards and pushuntil it clicks into position.

Danger of crushing injuries!Do not put your hand inside the dooras it is closing.

Child lockThe child lock can be used to preventchildren opening the dishwasher. Thedoor can then only be opened by usinga lot of force.

To lock the door, push the slide un-derneath the recessed handle to theright.

To unlock the door, push the slide tothe left.

Water softenerIn order to achieve good cleaning re-sults, the dishwasher needs to operatewith soft water. Hard water results in abuild-up of calcium deposits on dish-ware and in the dishwasher. Water supplies with a hardness levelhigher than 4 gr/gal (4 °d) needs to besoftened. This takes place automaticallyin the integrated water softener. Thewater softener in the dishwasher is suit-able for a water hardness level of up to73 gr/gal (70 °d).

– The water softener requires dish-washer salt. Depending on the water hardnesslevel (< 22 gr/gal, or 21 °d), dish-washer salt is not required if combi-nation tablets are being used (see"Operation - Detergent").

– The dishwasher must be pro-grammed for the water hardness inyour area.

– Your local water supplier can tell youthe water hardness level in your area.

– Where the water hardness fluctuatese.g. between 10 - 16 gr/gal (10 - 15°d), always program the dishwasherto the higher value (16 gr/gal or 15 °din this example).

It is useful to know your water hardnessso that you can provide the servicetechnician with this information in theevent of any service calls.

Enter the water hardness below:

The dishwasher is programmed at thefactory for a water hardness level of 1gr/gal (1 °d).

If this setting corresponds to the hard-ness of your water, you do not need todo anything more.

However, if you have a different waterhardness, you must adjust the watersoftener to match your water hardness.

Displaying and setting the waterhardness level

Turn the dishwasher off with the button, if it is turned on.

Press the Start button and, simulta-neously, switch the dishwasher onusing the button. Keep the Start button pressed for atleast four seconds until the Start indi-cator light comes on.

If this does not happen, start the proce-dure from the beginning again.

Press the button twice.

The indicator light will flash twice atshort intervals.

The value which has been set for thewater hardness appears as a figure inthe time display (see table) according to.

will start flashing in the time display.This is the factory default setting of 1°.

Use the Start button to select thevalue which equates to your waterhardness level.Each press of the button moves youup a level. When the highest waterhardness level is reached, the settingstarts from the beginning again.

The setting is now stored in memory.

Turn the dishwasher off with the button.

Before using the appliance forthe first time, you require:– Approx. 2 qt (2 l) of water

– Approx. 2 kg (4 lbs) of dishwashersalt

– Domestic dishwasher detergent

– Rinse aid formulated for domesticdishwashers

Every dishwasher is tested at the fac-tory. There will be residual water in theappliance from this test. It is not an in-dication that it has been used previ-ously.

Dishwasher saltIn order to achieve good cleaning re-sults, the dishwasher needs to operatewith soft water. Hard water results in abuild-up of calcium deposits on dishesand in the dishwasher. Water supplies with a hardness levelhigher than 4 gr/gal (4 °d) needs to besoftened. This takes place automaticallyin the integrated softener assembly. Thesoftener assembly in the dishwasher issuitable for a water hardness level of upto 73 gr/gal (70 °d).

The softener assembly requires dish-washer salt. Depending on the water hardness level(< 22 gr/gal or 21 °d), dishwasher salt isnot required if combination tablets arebeing used (see "Operation - Deter-gent").

If the water in your area is very softand consistently lower than 5 gr/gal(5 °d - German scale) you do nothave to add dishwasher salt. Theprompt to add salt will be switched offautomatically if the softener assemblyhas been programmed for this to hap-pen.

Dishwasher detergent will dam-age the softener assembly.Do not fill the salt container withdishwasher detergent (even liquiddetergent).

Use only special, coarse-graineddishwasher salt or other pure kitchensalt.Other types of salt may contain in-soluble components which can dam-age the softener assembly.

Filling the salt reservoir

Important! Before filling the saltreservoir with dishwasher salt for thefirst time, you must fill it with approx.2 qt (2 l) of water to enable the salt todissolve.Once the dishwasher has been usedfor the first time, there is always suf-ficient water in the reservoir.

Remove the lower basket from thewash cabinet and unscrew the saltreservoir cap.

Water will run out of the reservoirwhen the cap is removed.It should therefore only be removedin order to refill the salt reservoir.

Fill the reservoir with approx. 2 qt (2 l)of water (first use only).

Place the funnel provided over thesalt reservoir and carefully fill with saltuntil the reservoir is full. The saltreservoir holds approx. 4 lbs (2 kg) ofsalt depending on the brand used.

Clean any excess salt from aroundthe reservoir opening and then screwthe cap on again firmly.

Immediately after filling the salt reser-voir, run the QuickIntenseWash pro-gram with the Short programming op-tion selected and without any dishesin the dishwasher to remove anytraces of salt from the wash cabinet.

Salt refill indicator

Fill the salt reservoir with dishwashersalt when the Salt indicator lightcomes on. If it comes on during aprogram, wait until the end of the pro-gram.

Risk of corrosion! Immediately after filling the saltreservoir, run the QuickIntenseWashprogram with the Short programmingoption selected and without anydishware in the dishwasher to re-move any traces of salt from thewash cabinet.

After the salt reservoir has been filled,the refill indicator may still be lit up ifthe salt concentration has not yetreached the correct level. It will go outwhen the correct concentration isreached.

The salt refill indicator will be turned offif you have programmed the dishwasherfor a water hardness below 5 gr/gal(5 °d).

If you only ever use combination prod-ucts in your dishwasher, you canswitch both refill indicators for salt andrinse aid off if you wish (see "Options,Refill indicators").

If you switch to using detergent thatdoes not contain salt or rinse aid, itis important to remember to adddishwasher salt and rinse aid and toswitch the indicators back on.

Rinse aidRinse aid is needed to prevent spottingon dishes and glassware. The rinse aidis filled in the reservoir and the setamount will be automatically dosed.

Filling the rinse aid reservoir withdetergent will damage the reservoir.Only pour rinse aid formulated forresidential dishwashers into thereservoir.

When using "Tab" detergents rinseaid is not needed.

Adding rinse aid

Press the button on the lid of therinse aid reservoir in the direction ofthe arrow until the flap springs open.

Add rinse aid only until it is visible inthe opening.

The rinse aid reservoir holds approx.3.7 oz. (110 ml).

Close the flap firmly so that it clicksinto place. Otherwise water can enterthe rinse aid reservoir during a pro-gram.

Wipe up any spilled rinse aid. Thisprevents over-foaming occurring dur-ing the next program.

Rinse aid indicator

When the Rinse Aid indicator lights up,the rinse aid reservoir contains suffi-cient rinse aid for 2 - 3 programs only.

Add rinse aid.

If you only ever use combination prod-ucts in your dishwasher, you canswitch both refill indicators for salt andrinse aid off if you wish (see "Options -Refill indicators").

Setting the rinse aid dosage

You can adjust the rinse aid dosage forbest results.

The rinse aid dosage is set in stagesfrom 0 to 6. It is set to 3 at the factory.This is the recommended setting.

If spots appear on dishware and glass-ware:

Increase the rinse aid dosage.

If clouding or smearing appears ondishware and glassware:

Decrease the rinse aid dosage.




Press the button 3 times.

The indicator light will flash 3 timesat short intervals.

The set value will appear in the displayafter .

The flashing sequence will appear inthe display. This indicates a factory default settingof 3.

Use the Start button to select the set-ting required.Each press on the button moves youup a level. After reaching the highestvalue, the counter starts from the be-ginning again.

The setting is now saved.


Loading the dishwasher

TipsRemove coarse food residues from thedishes.

There is no need to rinse items underrunning water!

Do not wash items soiled withash, sand, wax, grease, or paint inthe dishwasher. These will damagethe dishwasher.

Dishes can be loaded anywhere in thebaskets, but the following notes shouldbe observed:

– Do not place dishes or cutlery insideother pieces. They will cover eachother.

– Load the dishes so that water canaccess all surfaces. This ensures thatthey get properly cleaned.

– Make sure that all items are securelypositioned.

– Hollow items such as cups, glasses,pans, etc. must be inverted in thebasket.

– Tall, narrow, hollow items, e.g.,champagne glasses, should beplaced in the center of the basket toensure better water coverage.

– Concave items such as mugs orbowls should be placed at an angleso that the water can run off.

– The spray arms must not be blockedby items which are too tall or hangthrough the baskets. If in doubt, testfor free movement by manually rotat-ing the spray arms.

– Make sure that small items cannotfall through the holders in the bas-kets. Small items, e.g., lids, should there-fore be placed in the cutlery tray orcutlery basket (depending on model).

Some foods may contain naturaldyes, e.g., carrots, tomatoes ortomato sauce. Plastic items in thedishwasher may discolor if largequantities of these foodstuffs findtheir way into the dishwasher on thedishes. Items not recommended for dish-washing

– Wooden cutlery, cutting boards anddishes or items with wooden parts

– Craft items, antiques, valuable vases,and decorative glassware

– Plastic items which are not heat-re-sistant: the high temperatures in thedishwasher may cause them to meltor lose shape.

– Copper, brass, tin and aluminumitems may discolor or become matt.

– Colors painted over a glaze may fadeafter a number of washes.

– Delicate glassware and glasswarecontaining lead crystal: clouding mayoccur over time.

Please note:

Silverware previously cleaned with asilver polish may still be damp or spot-ted at the end of a program, where wa-ter has not run off smoothly. It mayneed to be rubbed dry with a soft cloth.

Silver which has been in contact withfoods containing sulphur can discolor.These include egg yolk, onions, mayon-naise, mustard, fish, and marinades.

Aluminum components (e.g.,range hood grease filters) must notbe cleaned with a commercial or in-dustrial cleaning agent.These may damage the material.

Tip: When purchasing new dishes andcutlery, make sure they are dishwasher-safe.

Glass care

– Clouding may occur on glasses afterfrequent washing. If delicate glass-ware is washed in the dishwasher,ensure that only very low tempera-tures are used (see program chart), ora special glass-care program is used(depending on model). This will re-duce the risk of clouding.

– Purchase glassware which is dish-washer-safe (e.g., Riedel glassware).

– Use detergents with glass protectiveadditives.

Upper basket

For safety reasons, do not oper-ate the dishwasher without the upperand lower baskets in place (exceptwhen running the Tall items program,if available).

Use the upper basket for small, light-weight and delicate items such ascups, saucers, glasses, dessertbowls, etc. Shallow pans or casserole dishes canalso be placed in the upper basket.

Long items such as soup ladles, mix-ing spoons, and long knives shouldbe placed lying down across the frontof the upper basket.

Cup rack

Using the yellow lever , lift the cuprack upwards to make room for tallitems.

Glasses can be arranged along the po-sitioning rail of the cup rack to givethem some support during the program.

Lower the cup rack and lean theglasses against it or double stacksmaller pieces.

Adjusting the upper basket

In order to gain more space for talleritems the upper basket can be adjustedon three levels with 3/4" (2 cm) betweeneach level.

The upper basket can also be set at anangle with one side high and the otherside low. Make sure, however, that thebasket can slide smoothly in and out ofthe cabinet.

Pull the upper basket out.

To raise the upper basket:

Lift the basket until it clicks intoplace.

To lower the upper basket:

Pull upwards on the levers at eitherside of the upper basket.

Adjust the basket to the desiredheight and then push the levers se-curely back down into position.

Depending on the setting of the upperbasket, the following plate dimensionscan be accommodated.

FlexCare glass holder

Silicone padding in the FlexCare glassholder provides a stable and securehold for delicate stemware.

Stem glassware, e.g. wine glasses orchampagne flutes, can be leanedagainst the glass rack or suspendedfrom it.

The glass holder can be raised tomake more room for tall items.

You can set the glass holder at two dif-ferent heights.

Slide the glass holder to the desiredheight until the catches click intoplace at the top or bottom.

Hinged spikes (depending on model)

The spikes at the front are used forwashing plates, soup bowls, platters,dessert bowls, and saucers.

The spikes can be lowered to makemore room for large items, e.g. pots,pans and dishes.

Press the yellow lever downwards ,and then lower the spikes .

Cutlery

3D cutlery tray+ (depending on model)

Arrange the cutlery in the tray asshown.

To make unloading much easier, cutleryshould be grouped in zones, one forknives, one for forks, one for spoons,etc.

Spoon heads should be placed in con-tact with at least one of the serrated re-tainers on the base of the cutlery tray toensure that water runs off them freely.

For optimum cleaning results arrangespoons with the inner part facing thecenter of the cutlery tray.

The upper spray arm must not beblocked by items which are too big.

The side sections of the tray can bemoved into the middle using the yellowgrips in order to accommodate tallcookware in the upper basket (see also"Upper basket - Glassware rack").

If spoon handles do not fit between theholders, lay them the other way round.

You can use the yellow slide to adjustthe height of the middle section of thecutlery tray to make more room for largeitems of cutlery, such as servingspoons and ladles.

Both rows of spikes in the middle sec-tion of the cutlery tray can be flippedover to make room for larger pieces ofcutlery.

Cutlery basket (depending on model)

The cutlery basket can be placed any-where on the front rows of spikes in thelower basket.

To avoid the risk of injury, knives andforks should be placed with the han-dles upwards in the basket. However,cutlery placed handle down in thebasket will come out cleaner anddrier.

Place small items of cutlery in the in-dividual slots on three sides of thecutlery basket.

Cutlery insert for the cutlery basket

Use the insert supplied for heavilysoiled items of cutlery. The insert sepa-rates the items so that they can bemore easily accessed by water.

Fit it onto the cutlery basket if re-quired.

Insert cutlery with the handles facingdownwards.

Distribute them evenly along the in-sert.

Detergent

Only use detergents formulatedfor domestic dishwashers.

Active ingredients

Modern detergents contain various ac-tive ingredients, the most important ofwhich are:

– Complexing agents to prevent calcifi-cation.

– Alkalis to aid the removal of dried-onsoiling.

– Enzymes to break down starch andloosen protein.

– Oxygen-based bleaching agents toremove colored stains (e.g., tea, cof-fee, tomato sauce).

Most dishwasher detergents are mildlyalkaline and contain enzymes and oxy-gen-based bleaching agents.

There are different types of detergent:

– Powder and liquid gel detergents.These detergents allow you to adjustthe amount dispensed according tothe amount of load and level of soil-ing.

– Tab detergents. These are suitable formost levels of soiling.

You can also buy Tab products (see"Options, DetergentAgent", if applica-ble). In addition to detergent, these productscontain rinse aid and salt substitutes.They are available as "3 in 1" or whenthey also contain other componentssuch as glass and stainless steel pro-tective additives and enhanced cleaningpower, as "5 in 1", "7 in 1", "All in 1"etc. Refer to the manufacturer's packagingas to whether Tab products are suitablefor the water hardness level in yourarea. Please note that the cleaning and dry-ing results of Tab detergents can varygreatly.

For optimum cleaning and drying re-sults, use Miele dishwasher detergentand add Miele salt and Miele rinse aidseparately.

Detergent dosage

Follow the dosage recommended bythe manufacturer on the packaging.

Unless directed otherwise, use onedetergent tab or add 1 1/4 - 2 table-spoons (20 - 30 ml) detergent tocompartment II, depending on thelevel of soiling. With very heavy soil-ing you can also add a small amountof detergent to compartment l.

Tabs may not dissolve completelywhen the "QuickPowerWash" pro-gram (if available) is used.

Use only the recommended amountof detergent. Continued use of toomuch detergent may cause machinedamage.

Dishwasher detergents cancause burning in the nose, mouth,and throat if swallowed, or inhibitbreathing.Avoid inhaling or swallowing dish-washer detergent. Keep childrenaway from detergent. Keep detergentout of the reach of children. Keepchildren away from the dishwasher when the dooris open. There could still be deter-gent residues in the dishwasher. Onlyadd detergent just before starting theprogram and lock the door with thechild lock (depending on model).

Adding detergent

Press the opening catch on the deter-gent dispenser. The flap will springopen.

The flap is always open at the end of aprogram.

Add the required amount of detergentand close the flap.

Make sure that the detergent packag-ing is properly closed after use toavoid it getting damp and becominglumpy.

Dispensing aid

Compartment I holds a maximum of 2teaspoons (10 ml), Compartment II holds a maximum of3.5 tablespoons (50 ml) of detergent.

The marks in compartment II indicatethe levels of approximately 1 ¼ and 2tablespoons (20 and 30 ml) respec-tively. The marks indicate the approxi-mate fill level in ml when the door isopen in a horizontal position.

The dishwasher can be started only ifthe door is closed.

Press the Start button.

The program will begin.

The Start indicator light will come on.

A program should only be canceledin the first few minutes, if at all. Oth-erwise important program stagescould be omitted.

Time displayThe duration of the program selectedappears in hours and minutes in thedisplay before the program begins. Dur-ing the program, the time left until theend of the program is displayed.

The program duration displayed mayvary with the same program. It is influ-enced by, among other things, the wa-ter temperature at each intake, the re-activation process, the softener assem-bly, the type of detergent, the amountof dishes, and the amount of soiling.

When a program is selected for the firsttime, the display will show the averageprogram duration for a cold water in-take.

The times shown in the program over-view refer to standard test loads andtemperatures.

Each time a program is run, the elec-tronic module calculates the programduration required depending on thetemperature of the water taken into thedishwasher and the amount of dishes.

Energy managementTo save energy, the dishwasher willswitch off automatically 10 minutes af-ter the last time a button has beenpressed or 10 minutes after the end ofthe program (see "Options, OptimizeStandby").

Press the button to switch thedishwasher back on.

The dishwasher will not turn off whilea program is running, during the delaystart period, or if there is a fault.

At the end of the programThe program has finished when .appears in the time display and thedoor has opened slightly.

In the QuickIntenseWash program, thedoor will not open until a few minutesafter the program has finished.

The drying fan may continue to run fora few minutes at the end of the pro-gram.

Open the door fully so that the doorlocking pins retract again.

You can now empty the dishwasher.

If you have deactivated the auto-matic door opening function (see"Programming options, AutoOpen"),and would like to open the door assoon as the program has finished,make sure that you open the doorfully.Otherwise steam from the dish-washer could damage the edge ofthe counter because the fan is nolonger running.

Turning off the dishwasherAt the end of a program:

The dishwasher can be switched offat any time using the button.

Switching the dishwasher off during aprogram stops the program.

Turning the dishwasher off during therun-up to a delay start time (FlexiTimer)will also stop the process.

If the dishwasher is not going to beused for a longer period of time, e.g.,while on vacation, the water supplyshould be turned off.

Unloading the dishwasherDishes tend to break and chip moreeasily when they are hot. Allow thedishes to cool until they are comfortableenough to handle before unloadingthem.

The dishes will cool much faster if youopen the door when the program hasended.

First unload the lower basket, then theupper basket, and finally the cutlery tray(depending on model). This will prevent water drops from theupper basket and cutlery tray from fall-ing onto the dishes in the lower basket.

Interrupting a programA program will be interrupted as soonas the door is opened.

Close the door and press the Startbutton.

The program will continue from thepoint at which it was interrupted.

Water in the dishwasher may behot. Danger of scalding!Only open the door if absolutely nec-essary and exercise extreme cautionwhen doing so. Before closing thedoor again, leave it ajar for approx.20 seconds. This will enable the tem-perature in the wash cabinet to set-tle. After that, close the door andpress the Start button.

Changing a program

If the detergent dispenser flap has al-ready opened, do not change theprogram.

If a program has already started andyou wish to change it, proceed as fol-lows:


Turn the dishwasher on again with the button.

Select the program you want, andthen start it.

Short The "Short" option reduces the du-ration of programs in which this optionis available (see "Program overview").

In order to achieve optimum cleaningresults, consumption rates are in-creased with this option.

When used in combination with the"QuickintenseWash" program, the Short option results in a wash programwithout drying or automatic opening ofthe door (if available).

Delay StartYou can set the start time for a pro-gram. The start time can be delayed be-tween 30 minutes and 24 hours. The delay period is shown in 30 min-utes increments for a delay period be-tween 30 minutes and 9 hours 30 min-utes. It is shown in hours for periodslonger than this.

When using the Delay Start function,make sure that the detergent com-partment is dry before adding deter-gent. Wipe dry with a cloth if neces-sary. If the compartment is wet, pow-der detergent can become lumpyand stick to the dispenser, with theresult that it is not fully dispensed.Do not use liquid detergent when se-lecting Delay Start, as it can run intothe dishwasher before it is required.

To prevent children coming intocontact with dishwasher detergent:Do not fill the detergent dispenseruntil just before starting the pro-gram, i.e., before you activate theFlexiTimer with OK. Also activate thechild lock.


The Start indicator light flashes.

Select the desired program.

Press the button.

The last delay start time used will ap-pear in the time display. The indica-tor light will light up.

Set the required delay start time us-ing the button.

If you keep the button pressed, thetime will increase automatically up to hours. To get back to . hours,press the button twice.


The Start indicator light will come on.

If Optimize Standby is switched on(see "Programming options, OptimizeStandby"), the time display will go outafter a few minutes following activa-tion of delay start time, leaving just theStart indicator light flashing slowly.

Press any button to switch the displayback on again for a few minutes.

The time up until the program starts willcount down in the display in hours fordurations above 10 hours, and in min-utes for durations below 10 hours.

When the set time is reached, the pro-gram selected will start automatically.The time remaining will appear in thetime display and the indicator lightwill go out.

Optimize Standby can be switched off ifyou prefer. If you do this the durationbefore the dishwasher switches off au-tomatically increases to 6 hours. Doingthis will increase energy consumption.

Check and clean your dishwasherregularly. This will help avoid prob-lems and faults.

All surfaces are susceptible toscratching.Contact with unsuitable cleaningagents can alter or discolor all sur-faces.

Cleaning the wash cabinetGenerally, the wash cabinet is selfcleaning if the correct amount of deter-gent is used.

If, however, there are limescale orgrease deposits in the wash cabinet,these can be removed with a specialcleaning agent (available from Miele).Follow the instructions on the packag-ing.

If you mainly use low temperature pro-grams (< 120°F/50 °C), there is a risk ofbacteria and unpleasant odors buildingup in the wash cabinet. To prevent thishappening the dishwasher will automat-ically increase the temperature in the fi-nal rinse of the selected program afterseveral programs using low tempera-tures have been run.

Clean the filters in the wash cabinetregularly.

Cleaning the door and the doorsealBacteria could build up on the door sealand the sides of the dishwasher door asthese surfaces are outside the washcabinet and are not accessed andcleaned by the spray arm jets.

Wipe the door seals regularly with adamp cloth to remove food deposits.

Wipe off any food or drink residueswhich may have dripped onto thesides of the dishwasher door beforeclosing it.

Cleaning the door front

If soiling remains longer, it mayhappen that the surfaces can be-come discolored or changed.Remove any soiling immediately.

Clean the front with a solution ofwarm water and a little dishwashingliquid applied with a soft sponge.Wipe the surfaces dry using a softcloth.

Glass cleaners may be used toclean the exterior. However do notallow them to sit or "puddle", thiscan cause damage to the surface.Remove the cleaner promptly.

Filter systemThe filter system in the base of thewash cabinet prevents food from beingredeposited on dishes. It also protectsthe circulation pump from damagecaused by foreign objects.

This dishwasher must not beused without all the filters in place!

Collection of coarse soil may cause thefilters to clog. The level of soiling andtime it takes before the filters needcleaning will vary depending on use.

Check the condition of the filters reg-ularly and clean them if necessary.

Filter system Turn the dishwasher off.

Turn the handle counter-clockwise torelease the filter system .

Lift the filter system out of the dish-washer . Remove any coarse parti-cles and rinse the filter well underrunning water. Use a nylon brush if necessary.

Ensure that coarse soil does notget into the circulation system andcause a blockage.

To clean the inside of the filter, the flapmust be opened:

Press catches together in the di-rection of the arrows as shown, andopen the filter .

Rinse all the filters under running wa-ter.

Then close the flap so that the catchengages.

Replace the filter system so that it liesflat in the base of the wash cabinet.

Then turn the handle clockwise untilboth arrows point towards eachother. This will lock the filter system inplace.

Take care when you are fittingthe filter system that it is secured inposition correctly.Otherwise coarse soil could get intothe circulation system and cause ablockage.

Cleaning the spray armsParticles of food can get stuck in thespray arm jets and bearings. The sprayarms should therefore be inspected andcleaned regularly (approx. every 4 - 6months).

Turn the dishwasher off.

Remove the spray arms as follows:

Take out the cutlery tray (if your dish-washer is fitted with one).

Push the top spray arm upwards toengage the inner ratchet. Then un-screw the spray arm.

Push the middle spray arm upwards to engage the ratchet. Then un-screw the spray arm .

Remove the lower basket.

Pull the lower spray arm firmly up-wards to remove it.

Use a pointed object to push the foodparticles that are stuck in the sprayarm jets into the spray arm.

Rinse the spray arms thoroughly un-der running water.

With the help of the following guide, minor faults in the performance of the appli-ance, some of which may result from incorrect operation, can be put right withoutcontacting Miele Service. This will save time and money.

The following guide may help you to find the reason for a fault, and to correct it.You should, however, note the following:

Unauthorized or incorrect repairs could cause personal injury or damage tothe appliance.Repair work to electrical appliances must only be carried out by a suitably qual-ified and competent person in strict accordance with current local and nationalsafety regulations. The manufacturer cannot be held liable for unauthorizedwork.

Technical problems

After the dishwasher isturned on with the button, the Start indica-tor light does not flash.

The dishwasher is not plugged in. Insert the plug.

The circuit breaker has tripped. Reset the fuse (see data plate for the correct fuse

rating).

The dishwasher stopsduring a program.

The time display isflashing with the doorshut. The program hasnot started.

The door has not closed properly, because it had notbeen fully opened after the door had been openedautomatically. Open the door fully so that the door locking pins

retract again. Then close the door.

There may be a technical fault. Turn the dishwasher off with the button. Turn the dishwasher back on after a few seconds. Select the desired program. Press the Start button.

If the indicator lights flash again, there is a technicalfault. Contact Miele Service.

Fault :The drain pump is stillrunning, even with thedoor open.

The WaterProof System has reacted. Turn off the water supply. Contact Miele Service.

Fault : A fault has occurred in the circulation pump. Turn the dishwasher off for at least 30 seconds

with the button. Turn the dishwasher back on.

If the fault message appears again, there is a techni-cal fault. Contact Miele Service.

Before fixing the fault: Turn the dishwasher off with the button.

There is a problem with the water intake. Turn on the water supply fully and start the pro-

gram again. Clean the water intake filter (see "Frequently asked

questions"). The flow pressure at the connection point is lower

than 7.25 psi. Contact a plumber.

There is a problem with the water intake. There might be water in the wash cabinet. Clean the filter system (see "Cleaning and care -

Filter system"). Clean the drain pump (see "Frequently asked

questions"). Remove any kink or loop in the drain hose.

General problems


The indicator lights andtime display are dark.

The dishwasher has switched off automatically tosave energy. Turn the dishwasher on again with the button.

Detergent residue is leftin the dispenser at theend of a program.

The dispenser was still damp when detergent wasadded. Make sure the dispenser is dry before adding de-

tergent.

The dispenser covercannot be closed.

Detergent residue is blocking the latch. Remove the detergent residue.

The inside of the doorand/or the interior wallsare wet after a programhas finished.

This is caused by the drying system and does not in-dicate a fault. The moisture will dissipate after awhile.

Water remains in thewash cabinet at the endof a program.


The filter system in the wash cabinet is clogged. Clean the filter system (see "Cleaning and care -

Filter system").The drain pump or non-return valve is blocked. Clean the drain pump or the non-return valve (see

"Frequently asked questions").The drain hose is kinked. Remove the kink.

Noises


There is a knockingnoise in the wash cabi-net.

A spray arm is hitting the dishes. Interrupt the program, and rearrange the items

which are obstructing the spray arm.

There is a rattling noisein the wash cabinet.

Dishes is moving around in the wash cabinet. Interrupt the program and rearrange loose pieces.

A foreign object (e.g., a cherry pit) has becomelodged in the drain pump. Remove the foreign object from the drain pump

(see "Maintenance - Cleaning the drain pump andnon-return valve").

There is a knockingnoise from the waterpipe

This may be caused by the installation or the diameterof the water pipe. This has no influence on dishwasher function. If in

doubt, contact a suitably qualified plumber.

Poor cleaning results


The dishes are notclean.

The dishes were not loaded correctly. See notes in "Loading the dishwasher".

The program was not powerful enough. Select a more intensive program (see "Program

overview").Not enough detergent was dispensed. Use more detergent, or change your detergent.

Items are blocking the path of the spray arms. Rearrange the items so that the spray arms can ro-

tate freely.The filter system in the base of the wash cabinet isnot clean or is not correctly fitted. This may cause the spray arm jets to get blocked. Clean and/or fit the filter system correctly. Clean the spray arm jets if necessary (see "Clean-

ing and care - Cleaning the spray arms").The non-return valve is open and blocked. Dirty waterhas flowed back into the wash cabinet. Clean the drain pump and the non-return valve

(see "Frequently asked questions").

Smearing appears onglassware and cutlery.There is a bluish sheenon the surface of glass-ware; film can be wipedoff.

The rinse aid dosage is set too high. Decrease the dosage (see "Before using for the

first time - Rinse aid").

Dishes is not dry or cut-lery and glasses arespotty.

The rinse aid dosage is set too low or the rinse aidreservoir is empty. Replenish the reservoir, increase the dosage, or

change the brand of rinse aid (see "Before usingfor the first time - Rinse aid").

Dishes was taken out of the cabinet too soon. Leave it in for longer (see "Operation").

Combination tabs have been used which have im-paired drying performance. Change your detergent, or replenish the rinse aid

(see "Before using for the first time - Rinse aid").

Glasses have a brown-ish-blue discoloration;the deposit cannot bewiped off.

Detergent deposits. Switch to another detergent.

Glasses are dull anddiscolored; the depositcannot be wiped off.

The glassware is not dishwasher-safe. The surfacesare affected. There is no remedy.

Purchase glassware which is dishwasher-safe.

Tea or lipstick stainshave not been com-pletely removed.

The wash temperature of the selected program wastoo low. Select a program with a higher wash temperature.

The bleaching effect of the detergent is too low. Switch to another detergent.

Plastic parts are discol-ored.

Natural dyes, e.g., from carrots, tomatoes, or ketchupmay be the cause. The amount of detergent used orits bleaching effect was not sufficient to deal with nat-ural dyes. Use more detergent (see "Operation - Detergent").

Discoloration is irreversible.

White residue is visibleon dishes and cutlery,clouding occurs onglassware; this film canbe wiped off.

The rinse aid dosage is too low. Increase the dosage (see "Before using for the first

time, Rinse aid").The salt reservoir is empty. Fill the salt reservoir (see "Before using for the first

time, Dishwasher salt").The salt reservoir cap has not been screwed on cor-rectly. Replace it, making sure that it screws back on cor-

rectly.An unsuitable Tab detergent has been used. Change your detergent.

The softener assembly is programmed too low for thewater hardness level. Program the softener assembly for harder water

(see "Before using for the first time, Softener as-sembly").

There are rust stains onthe cutlery.

The affected items are not corrosion resistant. There is no remedy.

Purchase cutlery which is dishwasher-safe.A program was not run after dishwasher salt wasadded. Traces of salt have got into the wash cycle. Always run the QuickIntenseWash program with

the Short programming option selected and with-out any dishes in the dishwasher after addingdishwasher salt.

The salt reservoir cap has not been screwed on cor-rectly. Replace it, making sure that it screws back on cor-

rectly.

Cleaning the drain pump andnon-return valveIf the water has not been pumped awayat the end of a program, the drain pumpor the non-return valve might beblocked. They are, however, easy toclean.

Disconnect the dishwasher from theelectrical supply. Turn off the dish-washer and withdraw the plug.

Take the filter system out of the washcabinet (see "Cleaning and care,Cleaning the filters").

Scoop the water out of the wash cab-inet using a suitable container orutensil.

Press the catch for the non-returnvalve inwards .

Tilt the non-return valve inwards untilit is released .

Rinse it thoroughly under running wa-ter and remove any dirt from the non-return valve.

The drain pump is located underneaththe non-return valve (see arrow).

Remove all foreign objects from thedrain pump (glass or bone splinters). Before returning the non-returnvalve, check that the drain pump isnot blocked. Spin the impeller severaltimes in both directions to check forobstructions.

Carefully reinsert the non-return valveand secure it with the locking clamp.

Make sure the locking clampclicks into place!

Be careful not to damage anydelicate components when cleaningthe drain pump and the non-returnvalve.

Grounding instructions

GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS

THIS APPLIANCE MUST BEGROUNDED.

This appliance must be connected to agrounded metal, permanent wiring sys-tem, or an equipment-grounding con-ductor must be run with the circuit con-ductors and connected to the equip-ment-grounding terminal or lead on theappliance.

Prior to making a hardwire connec-tion to the terminal, remove the pow-ercord. Otherwise there will be a riskof electric shock from the attachedplug.

Water intake

Water in the dishwasher mustnot be used as drinking water.

– The dishwasher may be connected toa cold or hot water supply up to amaximum of 140°F/60°C. For reduced energy consumption, werecommend a cold water connection.We recommend connection to a hotwater supply only if it is economical,e. g. a solar-powered supply with re-circulation line. When connected to ahot water supply, all program phaseswhich would otherwise be carried outwith cold water will be carried outwith hot water

– The inlet hose is approx. 5 ft long. A5 ft long flexible metal hose (pressuretested to 2030 psi) is available as anoptional accessory if required.

– A faucet with a 3/8" male threadmust be provided on site.

– This appliance is constructed tocomply with ANSI/ASSE 1001 // IEC/EN/DIN 61770 // VDE 0700 Part 600,and may be connected to a suitablesupply without an extra non-returnvalve if national regulations permit.

– The water pressure (flow pressure atthe connection point) must be be-tween 7.25 - 145 psi. If the waterpressure is too high, a pressure reliefvalve must be fitted.

After connecting the dishwasher tothe water supply, check that the wa-ter intake is airtight.

To avoid any damage to the ap-pliance, the dishwasher must only beoperated when it is connected to afully vented plumbing system.

The intake hose must not beshortened or damaged in any way asit contains electrical components(see illustration).

Drainage– The machine comes equipped with a

built-in non-return valve on the dis-charge side to prevent waste waterfrom flowing back into the dish-washer.

– Take the drain line of the dishwasherand attach the drain line as high aspossible under the counter rim of thekitchen sink before connecting theend to the drain. The loop will serveto prevent a backed up drain or largevolume of water in the sink from si-phoning back into the dishwasher.

– The dishwasher is supplied with ap-prox. 5' 11" (1.5 m) of flexible drainhose with an internal diameter of7/8" (22 mm).

– The drain hose can be extended us-ing extensions and adapters. Thedrainage length must not be longerthan 13' 1 1/2" (4 m) and the deliveryhead must not exceed 3' 3 3/8" (1 m).

– If the hose is to be directly fitted tothe drainage outlet on site, use thehose clip supplied (see installation di-agram).

– The hose can be directed to the leftor the right of the appliance.

– The on-site connector for the drainhose can be adapted to differentwidths of hose. If the connector pro-trudes too far into the drain hose, itwill need to be shortened. Otherwisethe drain hose may become blocked.

– The drain hose must not be short-ened.

Make sure that there are no kinksin the hose, and that it is notsquashed or stretched.

After servicing the appliance, ensurethat the drain does not leak.

Venting the drain

If the on-site drain connection is situ-ated lower than the guide path for thebottom basket rollers in the open door,the drain must be vented. Otherwise asiphoning effect during a program cancause the appliance to empty itself ofwater.

To vent: open the dishwasher doorfully.

Pull the lower spray arm firmly up-wards to remove it.

Cut off the top of the vent valve in thewash cabinet.
