DIVE MASTER CLASS IS NOW FORMING ADVANCED OPEN WATER COURSE The Advanced Open Water Diver Course (AOW) is the next step in learning advanced skills directly applicable to scuba diving. Fre- quently, an AOW card is just the ticket to diving at a variety of more sites. For example, we know of several places in the Philippines, Malaysia, Australia, and some wreck sites in Florida who will not let you dive at certain, more advanced sites, unless you have the AOW or above certification. The reason is that the operators don't want to risk putting OW divers into certain advanced level dive con- ditions such as currents or deep, blue water, environments. They know that PADI AOW certified divers have the skills and experience necessary for such sites. There are a total of 5 dives necessary to complete the course. The required 2 Core dives are Deep and Underwater Navigation. You can choose the remaining 3 Adventure Dives. This course is for newly certified divers as well as divers with more experience who wish to expand their knowledge and practical skills. Also, if you don't have enough time to complete the full AOW course, the Adventure Diver rating is awarded after completion after any 3 Adventure Dives. Why should you take the Advanced Open Water Course? Open Water Divers have learned the basics, the "how" of diving. After a few dives, there is a need to expand that dive knowledge and learn practical skills which can increase your enjoyment of diving. Ever surface far away from the boat and have a long surface swim back? With the Navigation dive, you will learn how to prevent that situation, using compass as well as natural navigational aids to as- sist in your underwater journey. For deep diving, there are special concerns, and as an Open Water Diver, you are certified to dive 18 meters/60 feet. After completing the AOW course, that level is extended to 30 meters/100 feet. If you really want to advance your skills and be more comfortable in the water, taking this course is the way to do it. We have openings for the Beaver lake trip. Give us a call and schedule your course today! LEARN MORE HERE 5 Reasons Why You Need A Dive Computer 1. Dive tables are stac but dive computers are constant A dive computer can provide constant tracking of decompression status. The purpose of using a dive computer is to help prevent divers disease or decompression sick- ness. It will give you more freedom on your dive because you will be able to constantly track decompression as you descend into deeper depths. 2. Dive Computers give you longer boom me Dive computers can accurately calculate the amount of me you should be allowed underwa- ter because it can take into account the changing depths when diving on mul-level dives. If you would calculate your allowed boom me using only a dive table, you would not be able to take into account the amount of me spent at shallow depths com- pared to deeper levels. 3. They offer more accurate me and depth informaon One of the hardest things to do when diving is to accurately determine the boom me and max depth of a dive. Oſten, these figures are not accurately recorded making dive table calculaons imperfect. If you use a dive computer you can completely eliminate your worries about dive me and maximum depth inaccuracies. 4. They feature an ascent rate gauge You know that it is important to ascend slowly from your dive. Going faster than the usual rate of between thirty and sixty feet a mi- nute might increase the chance of experiencing decompression sickness. While a dive table may tell when you should ascend from a dive, it cannot tell you how fast you are actually ascending when you are diving. Dive computers, on the other hand, have built-in ascent rate monitors that will warn you if you are coming up too quickly. 5. Dive computers with air integraon have more helpful features Air integrated dive computers provide addional informaon such as cylinder pressure and the amount of air supply sll leſt. These can be difficult to calculate in different diving condions, so having a dive computer with an air integraon component is a great safety feature which can help to prevent a running out of air emergency situaon. In concluding, using a dive computer provides many safety features. It allows novice and experienced divers to eliminate the problem of inaccurate informaon and potenal mis- use of dive tables. Note Your scuba diving computer should not completely replace your dive table but be used in conjuncon with them. Although they are incredibly accurate and reliable, they can somemes fail. Lets say youre planning a dive to 100 feet, when you get there it should say you have a boom me of 20 minutes but instead it says you have a boom me of 60 minutes. Without the knowledge of your ta- bles, you would not know that your dive computer is malfunconing.
