OPEN MIND > MIND’S EYE “ The essential part of creativity is not being afraid to fail.” Edwin H. Land (May 7, 1909 – March 1, 1991) co-founder of the Polaroid Corporation.

The above quote by Edwin H Land captures the importance of freedom within the creative process and shows that making mistakes can possibly lead to work that maybe more interesting than originally intended. To possess the bold desire to ‘Let go’ whilst searching for challenging concepts and visuals is to be encouraged. Indeed, when a student is looking to trigger a catalyst to develop meaningful concepts and innovative aesthetics, it is important to approach the task with an open mind rather than simply conjuring visuals from within their mind’s eye.

Although envisaging an idea within the mind’s eye is an import factor within the creative process, it should be seen as a launch pad DQG�VWDUWLQJ�SRLQW�UDWKHU�WKDQ�D�ˉQDO�VROXWLRQ��Through applying cycles of experimentation, development and feeding upon solid research, a strong piece of work is likely to be formed. Within the open mindedness of the unforeseen,

there are however the possibilities of temporary failure as results may not go according to plan, and fully communicate the intended messages; this is something that will be a test to the creators’ resilience and commitment to the cause of striving for innovative and fresh ideas which challenge the viewer.

The main aspect of approaching a project with ‘an open mind ‘is to clarify what it is that you ZHUH�LQLWLDOO\�VHDUFKLQJ�IRU��LQ�RUGHU�WR�ˉQG�something else (as mentioned previously). This is something that can present stronger and sharper ideas than were perhaps initially foreseen.

Therefore an open mind is greater than the minds eye.
