Example-3 In today’s society, teenagers should be responsible

and start working. Do you think jobs are important? In the story, “A Job to Remember,” Jacob says, “the best part though, was that I was no longer indifferent to the past.” Jacob probably used to think that he wasn’t fit to have a job. Jacob would most likely recommend that other students should consider getting a summer job because it teaches you responsibility and respect. Maybe Jacob has grown up and he acts more mature now that he has a summer job. He looks at the world differently. In today’s world, responsibility is a big part in people’s life and having a job is one thing that has to do with responsibility.

EXAMPLE 6- SCORE 4- PASS“RING, RING.” A 16 year old teenage girl answered

the phone at a local pizzeria. In today’s society, 85% of teenage girls and boys have a job working at a local restaurant or maybe even babysitting. In the story, “A Job to Remember,” Jacob needs to find a job. “GREAT” said Jacob. “My heart sank as I headed to the kitchen to help put the groceries away.” I think Jacob would tell 95% of students to get a job because in the story he says, “Thanks for getting me the job, I think it’s going to be fun.” Jacob also talks about all the fun things he does at his job such as planting flowers, landscaping, and trimming bushes. I think getting a job teaches everyone an important life lesson.

EXAMPLE-7In today’s society, people have suffered from war and battles that cover our planet. Don’t you think that this should be a stop or at least come to an end? In the article, “A Simple Idea” the humanitarian relief movement was a helpful organization to help people that have been part of a disaster like tornados and earthquakes. As stated in the text, “As the idea for humanitarian aid spread, the mission expanded to relief victims in natural disasters.” “People have also contributed to these efforts.” This means that more people came to know the group and more people joined. These people wanted to join so they can do good for others and probably themselves. As a result, many young people joined because the president challenged young people to support our country by joining. If many of us join, then as a group we can help out thousands or millions. I would like to help others tat have been hurt or those who are suffering.

Page 22: OPEN-ENDED WRITING ARE YOU READY?? Ms. Dudley Yes, I earned a 4

EXAMPLE 8

In today’s society, young people are large contributors to humanitarian relief societies. Could you imagine how much weaker the humanitarian relief societies would be without youth contributors? “The Franklin News,” reported that “In 1917, President Wilson challenged young people to support their country at war by becoming involved with local humanitarian relief societies. Eight million youths responded that year.” Youths were out to prove something to the president. They probably didn’t’ expect that kind of outcome. That just goes to show you that young people are a large part of our society and they make huge differences in the lives of everyone.
