Stage 4 Petrie Street works overview

Dudley Creek Project - Overview

The Dudley Creek flood remediation works have progressed after extensive consultation with the community, where

several options were considered. These options took into account the impact on residents and the environment, as

well as reducing the flood risk in the Flockton area.

The Stapletons Road option that was chosen had the added advantage of enhancing the landscape in the longer

term, with an improved overall quality of trees, and improved walkways and access to the waterway.

What we are doing

This month Downer will begin preparing the Stage 4 Petrie Street site for the localised widening of Dudley

Creek between Stapletons Road and Petrie Street. This involves the demolition of 71 Petrie Street and

70/70A Stapletons Road, and replacing the Petrie Street culvert.

As a separate package of work, we will also be constructing a large intake structure at the Petrie Street site,

that when connected to the underground piped bypass will help increase the capacity for floodwater in

Dudley Creek. You will get a separate notice about these works later this month.

See indicative timeline of works below, and general impact information overleaf.

July and August

Ground stabilisation works, also known as in

situ mass stabilisation (IMS). This work will take 1-2

months.

This work involves a large digger excavating a 3

metre wide strip along the full length of the worksite,

blending, circulating, and kneading the soil and

mixing it with cement. When completed the 3 metre

by 4 metre block will be a homogenous mixture of

cement and existing soils. This will act as

underground wall, and help stabilise the ground and

stop it from slumping toward the creek.
