• 3.4-3.8 GHz
• In May 2018, the Finland’s Ministry of Transport and Communications launched a consultation on plans to make available 5G-suitable spectrum in the 3.5GHz band (3410-3800 MHz).
• 3.4-3.8 GHz spectrum auctions began on September 26, 2018 and ended on October 1st, 2018. The same amount of spectrum was proposed for sale in three licences valid 15 years from January 1st, 2019 to YE2033.
• The 130 MHz licences were awarded to the three players in place. The 3410-3540 MHz slot was allocated to Telia Finland at 30.3 million EUR. Elisa paid 26.3 million EUR for the 3540-3670 MHz range. DNA paid 21 million EUR for frequencies in 3670-3800 MHz.
• Overall, the auction raised 77.6 million EUR, a fairly reasonable amount, in line with government base prices.

University of Helsinki MegaSense team’s proprietary portable mobile AQ sensors carried by volunteering citizens, ‘Air Quality Troops’, crowdsourced by Forum Virium.
Six measuring campaigns in the three city districts, Kalasatama, Vallila-Kumpula and Pakila region in 2019-2021.
The participating citizens get personal Air Pollution Exposure Profiles based on the data from their sensors via an mobile phone app.
Vaisala has updated AQT420 sensors into new generation versions for the project.
Thirty new AQT sensors will be installed into volunteering citizens‘ balconies and similar locations in the three districts to form a highly optimized local measuring network planned by FMI and HSY. Both the mobile sensors and fixed sensors feed rich location specific real-time monitoring data into Finnish Meteorological Insititute’s ENFUSER modelling system.
AI and machine-learning analysis algorithms to be developed by utilizing monitoring data. The local and regional air quality maps as well as forecasting will also be developed.
Open APIs for the AQ data will be provided by University of Helsinki and FMI. Advanced Air Quality Index 2.0 will be developed for AQ information by using the data and analysis methods developed by the project.
Green Path mobile and web app using the AQ data and other environmental data.
Participatory budgeting will be organized in the three city districts in 2020-2021. UseLess develops HOPE mobile app for the citizens to document their personal district-specific daily activities related to air quality.
The project will procure Air Quality Interventions, services and products, which the citizens can vote for with the mobile app to be implemented in their own districts. By reporting their activities the citizens can increase their credit and voting power. Citizens, schools, sports clubs, housing co-ops, companies etc. can challenge each other too.
Innovation Competition will be organized for startups and SMEs to develop new AQ related services and products, preferably by utilizing the AQ data produced by the project. Best products or services can be procured as interventions for the participatory budgeting.
Connectivity platform over 5G networks available with “5G Innovation platform”
As part of the project’s dissemination activities, new solutions and best practices of taking AQ issues into account in City of Helsinki’s urban processes will be produced.
Better awareness on Air Quality issues will be created to help people make healthier and better choices in their daily lives.
