passionate leaders committed to advancing ASU

T he President’s Club is a group of men and women who are passionately committed to transforming public higher education through their support of the president

of Arizona State University. They are entrepreneurs, business professionals and community leaders who understand the importance of financial agility to allow the ASU president to capitalize on emerging opportunities. President’s Club members provide resources — intellectual and financial — to the ASU president to boldly advance ASU for the benefit of the citizens of Arizona.

President’s Club members are among the first to know of pivotal news and strategic decisions affecting ASU, apprised of current initiatives and priorities through President’s Club communications, showcase events and exclusive university occasions and activities.

Members of the President’s Club become ASU’s advocates in the community. Their thought-leadership recruits support. Their giving leadership creates a fiscal resource different from any other available to the ASU president; a strategic investment fund that has transformative impact, advancing ASU and its service to local, national and global communities.

ASU occupies a very special position in American higher education. It has adopted the most innovative, most entrepreneurial approach and has positioned itself to be the university of the future. We hope to expand the scope of the President’s Club and its leverage and impact in the larger context of the mission of the university.

Francis and Dionne Najafi, President’s Club co-chairs; members since 1998

ASU has become the model for the American research university; an institution committed to educational excellence, broad access and societal impact. ASU pursues research that contributes to the public good, becoming a catalyst for the economic, social and cultural vitality of the communities that surround it.

To become that model, ASU has undergone radical changes. We have undertaken a massive reorganization of our institution. We have torn down walls between disciplines and encouraged collaboration among diverse units. We have altered the trajectory of the university and reevaluated the role that universities play in society, in the economy and in education at all levels.

We have changed the relationship between ASU and Arizona.

a New American University: ASU’s transformation of higher education

Traditional resources available within a state university system don’t allow ASU’s president to operate with the flexibility and dexterity today’s competitive economy requires. Most funds are restricted to specific purposes.

The ASU President’s Club looks beyond tradition to entrepreneurship and innovation. Member contributions can be used at any time to respond immediately when an opportunity arises. This readiness means President’s Club funds have been the catalyst of trailblazing initiatives underway at ASU, leveraging big ideas into projects with transformational impact that further the objectives of a New American University.

entrepreneurship and innovation are at the heart of the President’s Club

Competition is ongoing for the best students and faculty, as well as research dollars and private investment. In this fiercely competitive milieu, colleges and universities must embrace ‘real world’ entrepreneurial speed, resilience and ingenuity. ASU is committed to nimble innovation, progress and tangible solutions.

There’s no other university in the United States going through as dramatic a change and improvement in service to its students and its community than ASU. The President’s Club is a fabulous tool, and an opportunity for people who make modest contributions to be joined by hundreds of others. Together we become a very strategic asset.
