- Communication with TPTs was via email/phone/Skype- OCT read TP feedback and plans after each TP and built a profile of trainees- OCT did all of the ‘stage’ reports in consultation with TPTs- OCT did all the marking, with the TPTs doing shadow marking
Overview of the first course IHL• A 13-week course• 10 participants• TP in 2 blocks of 4 weeks• ‘Simulation’: OCT was in different centre to
TP tutors:
• A sense of ‘isolation’ for OCT and trainees
• The lack of ‘flexibility’ in the course• Building rapport and a working
relationship with trainees• Effective communication with TPTs• Absence of ‘experiential learning’
Pre-course: Concerns
• A sense of ‘isolation’ for OCT and trainees
• The lack of ‘flexibility’ in the course
• Building rapport and a working relationship with trainees
• Effective communication with TPTs
• Absence of ‘experiential learning’
• OCT worked 2 hours/day on course; F2F tutorials could help trainees
• The online CELTA has flexibility of revisiting key units
• Rapport building done via ‘live rooms’, discussion forums and emails
• Greater objectivity and efficiency in communication
• Replaced with wide range of video clips of ‘real teaching’; no apparent impact on TP
